  • A hybrid color and grayscale images encryption scheme based on the quaternion Hartley transform (QHT), the two-dimensional (2D) logistic map, the double random phase encoding (DRPE) in gyrator transform (GT) domain and the three-step phase-shifting interferometry (PSI) is presented. First, we propose a new color image processing tool termed as the quaternion Hartley transform, and we develop an efficient method to calculate the QHT of a quaternion matrix. In the presented encryption scheme, the original color and grayscale images are represented by quaternion algebra and processed holistically in a vector manner using QHT. To enhance the security level, a 2D logistic map-based scrambling technique is designed to permute the complex amplitude, which is formed by the components of the QHT-transformed original images. Subsequently, the scrambled data is encoded by the GT-based DRPE system. For the convenience of storage and transmission, the resulting encrypted signal is recorded as the real-valued interferograms using three-step PSI. The parameters of the scrambling method, the GT orders and the two random phase masks form the keys for decryption of the secret images. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme has high security level and certain robustness against data loss, noise disturbance and some attacks such as chosen plaintext attack.

  • We investigated the polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) tolerance for 40Gb/s non-return to zero (NRZ), duobinary NRZ, return to zero (RZ), carrier-suppressed RZ (CS-RZ), and duobinary-carrier-suppressed RZ (DCS-RZ) modulation formats with a forward error correction (FEC) coding. The power penalty has been calculated as a measure of the system performance due to PMD. After comparison of the PMD tolerance of various modulation formats, our results suggest that RZ signals have the best tolerance against the effect of first-order PMD only. The duobinary NRZ modulation format is most resilient to PMD when both first- and second-order PMD are considered. However, the duobinary NRZ modulation format is the most sensitive to the incident angle of the input signal to a fiber axis in the presence of first- and second-order PMD, leading to incident angle-dependent power penalty. The coding gain by FEC can cope with the power penalties induced by first- and second-order PMD up to a DGD value of 16ps.

  • We investigated the structural, electrical and optical characteristics of IGZO thin films deposited by a room-temperature RF reactive magnetron sputtering. The thin films deposited were annealed for 2 hours at various temperatures of 300, 400, 500 and $600^{\circ}C$ and analyzed by using X-ray diffractometer, transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscope and Hall effects measurement system. The films annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ were found to be crystallized and their surface roughness was decreased from 0.73 nm to 0.67 nm. According to XPS measurements, concentration of oxygen vacancies were decreased at $600^{\circ}C$. Optical band gap were increased to 3.31eV. The carrier concentration and Hall mobility were sharply increased at 600oC. Our results indicate that the IGZO films deposited at a room temperature can show better thin film properties through a heat treatment.

  • In a high speed long haul fiber optic communication system using modulation, fiber chromatic dispersion and laser chirping can cause serious performance degradations. In this paper, the combined effect of laser chirping and chromatic dispersion on the per- formance of 2.5[Gbps] rate lightwave systems operating at a wavelength of 1550[nm] was investigated. Also we used an optical equalizer to compensate the laser chirping and fiber dispersion, and knew that the receiver sensitivity was improved by about 2 ~ 4[dB].

  • We utilized terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) to measure the thickness and electrical properties of nickel-chromium (Ni-Cr) films. This technique not only aligns well with traditional methods, such as haze-meter and transmission-densitometer measurements, but it also reveals the electrical properties and thickness of films down to a few tens of nanometers. The complex conductivity of the Ni-Cr thin films was extracted using the Tinkham formula. The experimental values closely aligned with the Drude model, indicating the reliability of our Ni-Cr film's electrical and optical constants. The thickness of Ni-Cr was estimated using the complex conductivity. These findings emphasize the potential of THz-TDS in quality control of metallic nanofilms, pointing toward an efficient and nondestructive test (NDT) for such analyses.

  • The control architectures of Chuan Suo (CS) deep submergence rescue vehicle are introduced. The hardware and software architectures are also discussed. The hardware part adopts a distributed control system composed of surface and underwater nodes. A computer is used as a surface control machine. Underwater equipment is based on a multi-board-embedded industrial computer with PC104 BUS, which contains IO, A/D, D/A, eight-channel serial, and power boards. The hardware and software parts complete data transmission through optical fibers. The software part involves an IPC of embedded Vxworks real-time operating system, upon which the operation of I/O, A/D, and D/A boards and serial ports is based on; this setup improves the real-time manipulation. The information flow is controlled by the software part, and the thrust distribution is introduced. A submergence vehicle heeling control method based on ballast water tank regulation is introduced to meet the special heeling requirements of the submergence rescue vehicle during docking. Finally, the feasibility and reliability of the entire system are verified by a pool test.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of compensation for WDM channel signal distortion due to both chromatic dispersion and Ken effect in 1,000 km 200 Gbps(5${\times}$40 Gbps) WDM systems was investigated. The WDM system has a path-averaged intensity approximation(PAIA) mid-span spectral inversion(MSSI) as a compensation method. This system has a highly nonlinear dispersion shifted fiber(HNL-DSF) optical phase conjugator(OPC) in the mid-way of transmission line. In order to evaluate the degree of compensation, 1 dB eye opening penalty(EOP), bit error rate(BER) characteristics and power penalty of 10$\^$-9/ BER are used. It is confirmed that HNL-DSF is an useful nonlinear medium in OPC fur wideband WDM system with PAIA MSSI and that the optimal compensation for WDM channel distortion is achieved by the selection of pump light power of OPC, which equalize the conjugated light power into the second half fiber section with the input WDM signal light power depending on total transmission length, dispersion coefficient of fiber, OPC pump light wavelength, conversion efficiency of WDM channel in OPC.

  • The system performance of NRZ format in WDM transmission system with lumped dispersion management(DM) and optical phase conjugator(OPC) is compared with that of RZ format. It is confirmed that eye opening penalty(EOP) of both NRZ and RZ format in WDM transmission system having lumped DM combined with OPC are greatly improved than those in WDM system with only OPC. The optimal net residual dispersion(NRD) in the case of RZ format is decided to so small value that path-averaged dispersion coefficient become almost zero, while that in the case of NRZ format is decided to larger value, for the best improvement of overall WDM channels. It is also confirmed that EOP in the case of RZ format is more improved than that in the case of NRZ format in lumped DM with optimal NRD. This is resulted from that lumped DM combined with OPC suppress the signal distortion due to intrachannel four-wave mixing(IFWM) and intrachannel cross phase modulation(IXPM). Consequently, lumped DM combined with OPC proposed in this paper is effective technique to mitigate intrachannel nonlinearities in WDM transmitting RZ format.

  • In this paper, research was conducted to solve the problem of reducing the dimming level and flicker that occurs in the visible light communication system. Visible light communication is a convergence technology that provides both communication and lighting, and must satisfy not only communication performance but also lighting performance. However, since the existing data transmission method transmits without considering the transmission data sequence, it reduces the dimming level and causes a flicker phenomenon. To solve this problem, in this paper, the Dimming Improvement and Flicker Reduction Mapping technique was studied. Existing systems simply transmitted data of '0' and '1', but in this system, original data transmission channels and DIFR (Dimming Improvement and Flicker Reduction) transmission channels are assigned to RGB channels. Original data is allocated to the R channel and original data or inverse original data is allocated to the DIFR-G channel, and the DIFR-B channel maintains the maximum dimming level by transmitting through the logical operation of the R channel and the G channel. At the same time, the flicker phenomenon is prevented by preventing continuous occurrence of 'OFF' patterns. Through this, we proposed an adaptive data allocation algorithm that can faithfully play a role as a light as well as a communication function.
