  • Design rules of optical transmission links with dispersion management (DM) and optical phase conjugation (OPC) for compensating optical signal distortion due to chromatic dispersion and self phase modulation (SPM) of single mode fiber (SMF) are investigated in this paper. Design rules consist of optimal net residual dispersion (NRD) and optimal range of launching power of wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) channels as a function of total transmission length and span length. In all considered total transmission length and span length, optimal NRD are obtained to +10 ps/nm and -10 ps/mn for transmission links, which is controlled by precompensation and postcompensation, respectively. It is confirmed that system performances are more improved and effective NRD for wide launching power have wider range as total transmission length and span length are more decreased.

  • At the present time, it is an important problem that we are to select a transmission line code for the very-high speed optical transmission system which can confidentially transfer the original information signal sequence efficiently, as it is to be the large capacity and the economization for the optical digital transmission system to transfer the information signal sequence at the very-high speed. Therefore, this paper is to select first the proper transmission line codes for the high speed(more than Mb/s) optical transmission system of the proposed two-level unipolar transmission line codes up to date, and to decide a mBIZ (m Binary with One Zero insertion) code as an optimal transmission line code for the very-high speed optical transmission system, resulting from analyzing the performance at the requirements of the transmission line code, such as the maximum consecutive identical digits, the transmission delay time, the increasing rate of clock, the mark rate, the circuit complexity, the supervision of transmission line error, and power spectrum among the selected transmission line codes.

  • Herein, we present a compact transversal bandpass filter (BPF) with an extremely wide upper stopband and multiple transmission zeros (TZ). Three signal transmission paths with shorted stubs and open-coupled lines allow signal transmission from input port to output port. Two resonant modes can be excited simultaneously and managed easily for bandpass response. Eleven TZs are achieved via transmission path cancelation; an extremely wide upper stopband with an attenuation level better than -12 dB is achieved up to 11.7 f0, where f0 is the center frequency (CF). In addition, bandwidth and CF can be controlled by adjusting electrical lengths. For proof of concept, a wideband BPF centered at 1.04 GHz with 3 dB fractional bandwidths of 49.2% was designed, fabricated, and evaluated. The overall circuit measures 0.045λg × 0.117λg; good agreement was observed between the measured and simulated results.

  • Instrumentation and Control (I&C) of the Neutral Beam Test Stand (NB- TS) Facility at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) for the Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR) project has been underway since the start of the project to answer the diverse requests arising from the various facets of the development and construction phases of the project. Optical signal transmission constitutes a significant portion of I&C works and has been performed for the entirety of the project. During the NB- TS construction and related experiments, significant achievements to a more accurate as well as more refined optical signal transmissions have been made. Examples of those I&C works that utilized the optical signal transmission are the Langmuir probe signal transmission, gradient grid current signal transmission, gas flow control and signal transmission, ion source temperature measurement, beam line component temperature monitoring, and coolant flow signal transmission, etc. These optical signal transition provisions are now performing part of the indispensable functions for the proper operation of the NB- TS facility. Attained experience and expertise are expected to be well applied to the upcoming main neutral beam injection (NBI) system construction for the KSTAR project.

  • In this paper, we presents the efficiency and a transmission quality of the system which is composed of the optical elements from physical layer of the active optical ring network. For a simulation it will use the Transmissionmaker WDM and it will be able to observation a optical transmission quality of the optical transmission system. The active optical network is composed of two rings(main ring and sub-ring). It measures the BER(Bit Error Rate) quality which it follows node number from the sub ring and physical distance of the node. Performance analysis from the physical layer becomes the standard of the plan for the efficiency optimization of the active optical ring network. Consequently it will be able to compose the efficient optical transmission system which reflects the physical distance, a traffic demand quantity of each node and a number of users from actual network.

  • Wireless charging method using a laser is considered as the most efficient method at a long distance of the wireless charging method. Combining long-range laser wireless charging technology with wireless communication technology will make it possible to use it for a variety of applications. Accordingly, this paper shows the results of research and experiments on wireless charging and wireless communication simultaneously based on a laser. This technique uses a laser as a light source for E/O(: Electric-to-Optical) conversion at the transmitter for optical wireless power transmission. In the experimental results, the optical power transmission using a 100 mW laser transmitter and a solar cells receiver showed a DC-to-DC efficiency of 1.9 %, wireless optical communication showed a transmission speed of up to 90 kbps when the transmission distance is 15 m.

  • We observed that optical properties of silicon changed under high dose electron irradiation at 250 keV. Our experimental results revealed that the optical transmission through a silicon wafer is significantly increased by electron irradiation. Transmission increase by the change in the absorption coefficient is explained through an analogy with amorphous silicon. Moreover, solar cell open-circuit voltages indicated that defects were generated by electron irradiation, and that the defects responded to annealing. Our results demonstrated that the optical properties of silicon can be controlled by a combination of electron irradiation and hydrogen annealing.

  • We present numerically simulated results on stabilities of optical soliton transmission in highly-dispersion-perturbed optical fiber systems. We have found that the perturbation of dispersion along the transmission line does not significantly degrade stability of soliton transmission as long as the average soliton concept is obeyed.
