Because of rapid technological advancements, increased data rate support has become the key criterion for future communication medium selection. Multimode optical fibers and multicore optical fibers are well matched to high data rate throughput requirements because of their tendency to support multiple modes through one core at a time, which results in higher data rates. Using the numerical mode solver OptiFiber, we have designed a concentric core fiber by investigating certain design parameters, namely core diameter (µm), wavelength (nm), and refractive index profile, and as a result, the number of channels, material losses, bending losses, polarization mode dispersion, and the effective nonlinear refractive index have been determined. Space division multiplexing is a promising future technology that uses few-mode fibers in parallel to form a multicore fiber. The experimental tests are conducted using the standard second window wavelength of 1,550 nm and simulated results are presented.
To understand the cause of the high light transmittance of the human eye, the optical effects of the collagen fibers of the stroma layer, which constitute the majority of the cornea, were analyzed. These collagen fibers, approximately 20 nm in diameter, have a regular arrangement. Accordingly, the optical properties of the collagen fibers and the fiber layer were analyzed by simulation. A standing wave was formed in the incident space by the overlapping incident light and the light reflected by the plate. In addition, it was confirmed that when the collagen fibers are arranged in a layer, the light transmittance periodically changes, depending on the number of fiber layers. The standing wave was formed in the incident space, and the light's intensity distribution was changed by the nanoscale collagen fibers in the section with the collagen layer, which affected the transmittance. To explain this phenomenon, the collagen fiber was defined as a second light source, and an attempt was made to describe the simulation results in terms of overlap of the incident light with the light emitted from the collagen fiber.
Free vibration characteristics of an initially stressed CD/DVD disk, which is designed for increasing critical speeds of current optical disks, are analyzed using the Rayleigh-Ritz technique based on variational formulations. Natural frequencies of the new disk depend on membrane stresses caused by disk rotation as well as residual stresses imposed during the cooling process of the injection molding. Critical speeds are calculated for the various initial patterns of radial and circumferential stresses. Initially imposed tensile stresses increase the natural frequencies of all the vibration modes except zero nodal diameter mode, whose natural frequency is independent of circumferential stress. A new disk with initial tensile stress of 0.5MPa is shown to have its critical speed about 30 % higher than the current optical disk.
In this paper, the technique to fabricate the optical fiber preforms by centrifuge was investigated, using silica particles of different sizes. The injection tube was designed to traverse axially so that uniform coaling of tiny silica particles onto the substrate tube can be certified. The deposition efficiencies and deposition rates of $SiO_2$ particles were measured to elucidate the effects of process variables such as rotation speed of rotor, aqueous flow rate, suspension concentration, binder concentration and overflow weir diameter. This study shows dearly the merit of this technique by enhancing abruptly the deposition rates and deposition efficiencies, comparing to the conventional processes for optical fiber preforms.
We studied the characteristics and fabricated the plano-convex refractive microlenses using the thermal reflow method. The exposed resist was resolved in a standard developing process. The remaining resist of circle pattern was melted in an oven 12$0^{\circ}C$ to 15$0^{\circ}C$. The shape of the melted resist microlenses is ruled by surface tension. Diameter and hight of the fabricated microlenses were 250${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 325${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 15${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 22${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, respectively. The surface profile was calculated using data curve-fitting method with circle equation. The optical characteristics was analysed using optical simulation program.

The MATS (Mesosphere Airglow/Aerosol Tomography Spectroscopy) satellite is the next Swedish science microsatellite. We report optical performance test results of the limb telescope, which is the major payload. This telescope is designed with "linear astigmatism-free" (LAF) off-axis optical system in order to have high optical performance across the wide field of view. We measured Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) and Encircled Energy Diameter (EED) of the limb telescope. Full field imaging tests show expected results without linear astigmatism across the full field of view ($5.67^{\circ}{\times}0.91^{\circ}$). Since the amount of stray light is from the earth and the sun, we also simulated and measured the stray light in the field image.
Novel concept of sensor mat and its signal processing method is proposed for patient monitoring in medical application. Proposed sensor mat structure has sensing inner layer which has cross-linked arrangement using plastic optical fiber(POF). Large core diameter of plastic optical fiber behaved as band pass filter by averaging the noise component. caused by unwanted environmental factors. Signal processor followed by sensor output added noise immune performance by filtering out unwanted component. Fail-proof patient breath monitoring scheme was realized by using intelligent decision algorithm. Unlike the conventional approach by using mechanical sensor, which have high sensitivity both to intruder and to environmental noise, our approach provided reliable breath motion detection.
본 논문에서는 Iterative Fourier Transform Algorithm $Method(IFTA)^{(1)}$를 사용하여 Diffractive Optical Element(DOE)를 통과한 빛의 Shape이 Input Beam의 각 조건에 따라 얼마나 원하는 형태에 가까워지는지를 Input 대비 Output의 Efficiency와 Signal to Noise Ratio(SNR) Simulation 을 통해 알아보았다.
Conventional PIV method uses two optical axis configuration during the image grabbing process. That is, the illumination plane and the recording plane must be parallel. This configuration is very natural to grab the whole field without the image distortion. In the real problem, it is often to meet the situation when this configuration is hard to be fulfilled. In the present study, the new PIV method which uses only single optical axis to grab the particle images is developed. This new PIV method becomes possible by utilizing the scanning method similar to the echo PIV technique. One particle image of the scanning PIV consists of scanned several line images and by repeating this scanning process, two particle images were grabbed and processed to produce the velocity vectors. An optimization study was performed to find parameters which minimize the measurement errors. The effects of particle diameter, beam overlap ratio and particle number density were investigated.
We have fabricated a multi-mode nonlinear plastic optical fiber (POF) using organic nonlinear optical materials and demonstrated the propagation of light. The refractive indices of core and cladding are 1.5240 and 1.5172. We made a POF preform by rod-in tube method. The core diameter of the fabricated POF is about $30{\mu}m$. We evaluated the temperature characteristics of POF. The sensitivity is $0.345{\;}mW/^{\circ}C$ and the linearity of sensor was good.
