  • Field performance of several different types of diffractive optical elements(DOEs) has been carried out. Using Zemax model, we have designed five different types of DOEs, such as transmissive flat-DOE, transmissive curved-DOE, reflective flat-DOE, reflective curved-DOE and parabolic mirror, We have applied two different wavelengths, i.e., 13 m(EUV) and 632.8 nm(visible) to above DOEs. Off_axis dominate aberrations and the diffraction limiting (Rayleigh limit) field angles have been investigated and compared at both wavelengths for each DOE. At diffraction limit, field angle of curved-DOEs was much greater than that of flat-DOEs for both transmission and reflective types. We also showed that dominated off_axis aberration of flat-DOEs was coma, but that of curved-DOEs was mixture of astigmatism and curvature of field. The measured field angle and expected OPD aberrations were well coincided with theoretical ones. Increasing the ratio of field angle with wavelength was more effective in curved-DOEs than flat-DOEs.

  • In recent years, there has been rapid progress in different areas of vision science, such as refractive surgical procedures, contact lenses and spectacles, and near vision. This progress requires a highly accurate modeling of optical performance of the human eyes in different accommodation states. A new novel model-eye was designed using the Navarro accommodation-dependent finite model eye. For each of the vergence distances, ocular wavefront error, accommodative response, and visual acuity were calculated. Using the new model eye ocular wavefront error, accommodation dative response, and visual acuity are calculated for six vergence stimuli, -0.17D, 1D, 2D, 3D, 4D and -5D. Also, $3^{rd}\;and\;4^{th}$ order aberrations, modulation transfer function, and visual acuity of the accommodation-dependent model eye were analyzed. These results are well-matched to anatomical, biometric, and optical realities. Our corrected accommodation-dependent model-eye may provide a more accurate way to evaluate optical transfer functions and optical performances of the human eye.

  • In the case of an imaging system affected by aberrations which are not precisely known, the effect of aberrations can be minimized and near-diffraction-limited images can be restored by introducing artificial random phase fluctuations in the exit pupil of the imaging system and using bispectral speckle imaging. In order to determine the optimum value of the correlation length for Gaussian random phase model, computer simulation is performed for 50 image frames of a point object in the presence of defocus, spherical aberration, coma, astigmatism of 1 wave, respectively. In terms of the criterion of performance, the FWHM of the point spread function, normalized peak intensity, MTF and visual inspection of the restored object are employed. The optimum value for the rms difference $\sigma$ of aberration on the exit pupil in the interval of Fried parameter ${\Upsilon}_0$ is given by 0.27-0.53 wave for spherical aberration, and 0.24-0.36 wave for defocus and astigmatism, respectively. It is found that the bispectral speckle imaging technique does not give good results in the case of coma.

  • We discussed two main types-conformal and non-conformal (powered) - of holographic combiner. A theoretical model based on the Kogelnik's coupled wave theory was used to illustrate bandwidth and efficiency properties. Also we showed numerical values for the aberrations that are induced by a wavelength shift from construction to reconstruction and found optimum coordinates to reduce the chrolatic aberation of construction beams using aberration balancing techniques. The holographic combiner manufactured in conformal type with 60$^{\circ}$ incidence angle at 514.5 nm had narrow angular bandwidth (FWHM) of 4.1" and spectral bandwidth of 11.4 nm, while non-conformal one with 50$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$ incidence angle at 514.5 nm showed spectral and angular bandwidth of 10.7 nm and 5.5$^{\circ}$, respectively.vely.

  • Lens design method by using equivalent lenses was already introduced, but the method has a limitaion that all lenses should be in the air. Therefore, we often get improper solution in designing cemented lenses. In this study, the lens conversion from thick lens to equivalent lens and its reversal was generalized without any preconditions, and the third order aberration fomulrae were derived for the generalized equivalent lens system. The generalized equivalent lens conversion were applied to typical cemented doublet and triplet, and they show that the third order aberrations of the generalized equivalent lenses have better agreements with their corresponding thick lenses than the previous conversion method.

  • The Strehl ratio(SR) expressions are derived from the diffration intensity distribution in a Gaussian pupil imaging system, and Marechal criterion is applied for the case of astigmatism aberration first and then to all the rest of the Seidel 1st order aberrations. The aberration criteria obtained are tabulated. In the case of Rayleigh's pupil, the same criteria are always smaller than Gaussian pupil, thus the latter is superior to the former.

  • The adaptive optics for compensating for optical wavefront distortion due to atmospheric turbulence has recently been used in systems that improve beam quality by eliminating the aberrations of high power laser beam wavefront. However, unseen-mode, which can not be measured in the wavefront sensor, increases the instability of the laser beam wavefront compensator on the adaptive optics system. As a method for improving such instability, a mathematical method for limiting the number of singular values is used when generating the command matrix involved in generation of the drive command of the wavefront compensator. In the past, however, we have relied solely on experimental methods to determine the limiting range of the singular values. In this paper, we propose a criterion for determining the limiting range of the singular values using the driving characteristics and the correlation technique of the wavefront compensator's actuators and have proved its performance experimentally.

  • This paper proposes a new spatial filtering approach for increasing the depth-of-field (DOF) of imaging systems, which is very useful for obtaining sharp images for a wide range of axial positions of the object. Many different techniques have been reported to increase the depth of field. However the main advantage in our method is its simplicity, since we propose the use of purely absorbing beam-shaping elements, which allows a high focal depth with a minimum modification of the optical architecture. In the filter design, we have used the analogy between the axial behavior of a system with spherical aberration and the transverse impulse response of a 1D defocused system. This allowed us the design of a ring-shaded filter. Finally, experimental verification of the theoretical statements is also provided.

Depending on the fabrication techniques, the sectional view of micro lens has different shape. In the paper, the effect of the sectional shape of extractor lens and limiting aperture on the focusing property of microcolumns have been studied.

  • For the micro-lithography using a excimer laser beam $(\lambda\leq0.248$\mu\textrm{m})$. a mirror system consisting of four spherical surfaces with reductlon magnification 5X is designed. Initially the aplanat, flat field and the distortion free condition of the system are analytically investigated within Seidel 3rd order aberrations. And the computer-aided optimization technique has been employed for the further improved performance of the system. The final system has N.A. of 0.15 and image field diameter 3.3 mm, and has the diffraction-limited performance for KrF eximer laser beam.
