Operational Characteristics of a Flux-Lock Type SFCL Integrated with Voltage-Controlled Voltage Source Inverter

  • In this paper, a flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) integrated with a voltage-controlled voltage source inverter(VC-VSI) is proposed. The suggested equipment, which consists of a flux-lock type SFCL and a VCVSI, can perform the fault current limiting operation from the occurrence of a short-circuit. In addition, it can compensate the reactive power that the non-linear load requires and also perform the uninterruptible power supply(UPS) as well as the load voltage stabilization by controlling the amplitude and the phase of the inverter's output voltage. The specification for a test model was determined and its various functions such as the fault current limiting and the power conditioning operations were presented and analyzed via computer simulation. Through the analytical results based on the computer simulation, the validity of the analysis was confirmed and its multi-operation was discussed.

  • 기존의 위상 천이 풀-브릿지 컨버터는 변압기 2차측 다이오드의 전압 스트레스를 증가시키는 심각한 전압 진동 문제를 가지고 있으며, 이를 해결하기 위한 부가적인 스너버의 사용은 전체 시스템 효율의 저하를 초래한다. 본 논문에서는 부가적인 스너버의 사용없이 효과적으로 전압 진동 문제를 해결하는 위상 천이 풀-브릿지 컨버터의 새로운 동작 방식을 제안한다. 또한 제안된 방법은 동작 특성 상 넓은 영전압 스위칭 범위를 보장하므로 향상된 효율을 기대할 수 있다. 기존의 동작 방식과 비교하여 제안된 전압 진동 제거 기술의 동작 원리, 전압 진동 분석 및 설계 고려 사항을 나타내었으며, 420W사양의 시험모델을 제작하여 제안된 전압 진동 제거 기술의 타당성을 입증하였다.

  • A novel two stage soft-switching ac-to-dc convener with power factor correction is proposed. The proposed convener provides zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) condition to main switch of boost pre-regulator without auxiliary switch. Comparing to the conventional two stage approach(ZVS-PWM boost rectifier followed by off-line ZVS dc-dc step down converter), the proposed approach is simple and reducing EMI noise problem. A new simple DC-linked energy feedback circuit provides zero-voltage-switching condition to boost pre-regulator without imposing additional voltage and current stresses and loss of PWM capability. Operational principle, analysis, control of the proposed converter together with the simulation results of 1KW prototype are presented.

  • This paper describes the development of a three-phase Line-Interactive DVR(Dynamic Voltage Restorer), which is applied to Hybrid detection method and super-capacitor. The operational feasibility was verified through computer simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC software, and experimental will be work with 3kVA prototype. The developed system can compensates the input voltage sag and interruption within 2ms, in which the maximum allowable sensitive load, such as computer, communication equipment, automation equipment, and medical equipment. The developed system has a simple structure to be easily implemented with commercially available components and to be highly reliable in operation.

AT 플라이백 다중공진형 컨버터 동작모드 해석 (Operational Mode Analysis of the AT Flyback Multi-Resonant Converter)

  • The multi-resonant(MR) converter has a characteristics that the parasitic components existing in the converter are absorbed into the resonant circuits. The designed MR converter could be got a high efficiency and a high power density because the switching power losses are reduced effectively due to resonant switching circuit. However, the high resonant voltage stress of switching power devices leads to the conduction loss. In this paper, it is proposed the novel alternated(AT) flyback multi-resonant converter to overcome such a drawback. The suggested converter dc input is divided by two series input filter capacitors. The resonant stress voltage is reduced to 2-3 times the input voltage without any complexity and it provides the various circuit schemes in lots of applications. The proposed flyback MR converter is verified through simulation and experiment.

  • This paper describes the development of a high-performance single-phase line-interactive Dynamic voltage Restorer, which is composed of an H-bridge inverter and super-capacitors. The operational feasibility was verified through computer simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC software, and experimental works with 3kVA prototype. The developed system can compensates the input voltage sag and interruption within 2ms, in which the maximum allowable duration of voltage interruption is 1.5 seconds. The developed system has a simple structure to be easily implemented with commercially available components and to be highly reliable in operation.

Design of a Frequency Locked Loop Circuit

  • In this paper, I propose the full CMOS FLL(frequency locked loop) circuit. The proposed FLL circuit has a simple structure which contains a FVC(frequency-to-voltage converter), an operational amplifier and a VCO(voltage controlled oscillator). The operation of FLL circuit is based on frequency comparison by the two FVC circuit blocks. The locking time of FLL is short compared to PLL(phase locked loop) circuit because the output signal of FLL is synchronized only in frequency. The circuit is designed by 0.35${\mu}m$ process and simulation carried out with HSPICE. Simulation results are shown to illustrate the performance of the proposed FLL circuit.

A Design of BJT-based ESD Protection Device combining SCR for High Voltage Power Clamps

  • This paper presents a novel bipolar junction transistor (BJT) based electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection device. This protection device was designed for 20V power clamps and fabricated by a process with Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS (BCD) $0.18{\mu}m$. The current-voltage characteristics of this protection device was verified by the transmission line pulse (TLP) system and the DC BV characteristic was verified by using a semiconductor parameter analyzer. From the experimental results, the proposed device has a trigger voltage of 29.1V, holding voltage of 22.4V and low on-resistance of approximately $1.6{\Omega}$. In addition, the test of ESD robustness showed that the ESD successfully passed through human body model (HBM) 8kV. In this paper, the operational mechanism of this protection device was investigated by structural analysis of the proposed device. In addition, the proposed device were obtained as stack structures and verified.

Low-Power and Wide-Input Range Voltage Controlled Linear Variable Resistor Using an FG-MOSFET and Its Application

  • In this paper, a voltage-controlled linear variable resistor (VCLVR) using a floating-gate MOS-FET (FG-MOSFET) is proposed. The proposed-circuit is the grounded VCLVR consists of only an ordinary MOSFET and an FG-MOSFET. The advantage of the proposed VCLVR are low-voltage and wide-input range. Next, as applications, a floating-node voltage controlled variable resistor and an operational transconductance amplifier using the proposed VCLVRs are proposed. The performance of the proposed circuits are characterized through HSPICE simulations with a standard 0.6 ${\mu}$m CMOS process. simulations of the proposed VCLVR demonstrate a resistance value of 40 k$\Omega$ to 338 k$\Omega$ and a THD of less than 1.1 %.

  • Injector of high voltage or linear ion accelerator is intended to generate, extract and form beam of certain species with required parameters at the entrance of accelerating structure or, for low energy case, directly in the processing chamber (end station). Injector is the main part defining the ion accelerator performance and reliability. Its power supply and control system (PSCS) features are conditioned by placing the injector equipment at high voltage potential and by complexity of the plasma-beam load. The injector's PSCS should provide: - Transmission of electric power onto high voltage (h/v) terminal; - Obtaining of required output characteristics for injector equipment operation; - Transmission of the operational data and start/stop signals from h/v terminal to control cabinet; - Rremote control of injector; - Withstanding the high voltage breakdowns and X-ray radiation; - Compatibility with other equipment. The paper is concerned with analysis of injectors' PSCS structure and description of the system developed for 50 keV, 20 mA heavy ion injector.
