Korean military uses 'Tactical information communication network' to exchange information between units. In this study, we developed a media processing board for multi-party voice and video telephony based on open source software. On the other hand, in order to apply open source software for weapon systems and parts that are mounted on weapon systems, appropriate review is required according to the weapon system software development and management manual of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA). In this study, the analysis of the requirement items was performed and the appropriate countermeasures were proposed for the open software applied to the media processing board with respect to 'the guidelines for the application of weapon systems to open source software', an appendix to the DAPA's manual.

Recently, National Archives of Korea has planned to develop the Standard Archive Management System, to make it economical and efficient in accordance with the local archives establishments by Seoul Metropolitan City. Also, the institution signed the MOU with National Information Society Agency to set up a digital archive system and foster professional archival manpower. These movements are rooted on the current domestic demands for digital archive systems. Keeping pace with it, the purpose of this study is suggesting feasible ways to establish the sustainable and efficient archive systems. To this end, a status study on the existing digital archive systems at both domestic and overseas bases was carried out, with the many of open source software analysis. Based on the primary implications of this study, to implement the digital archive system, functional module deducting methods and an open source software application process on each module were designed. Financial, operational and technical considerations such as the links between modules are also considered.

This paper discusses system for real-time monitoring of patient waiting time in hospitals based on open-source platform. It is necessary to make use of open-source projects to develop a high-performance stream processing system, which analyzes and processes stream data in real time, with less cost. The Hadoop ecosystem is a well-known big data processing platform consisting of numerous open-source subprojects. This paper first defines several requirements for the monitoring system, and selects a few projects from the Hadoop ecosystem that are suited to meet the requirements. Then, the paper proposes system architecture and a detailed module design using Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, and so on. The proposed system can reduce development costs by using open-source projects and by acquiring data from legacy hospital information system. High-performance and fault-tolerance of the system can also be achieved through distributed processing.

Distributed ledger technology, which is attracting attention as an emerging technology related to the 4th Industrial Revolution, is implemented as an open source based distributed ledger technology system and widely used for development with various applications (or services), but the security functions provided by the distributed general ledger system are very insufficient. This paper proposes security enhancements for distributed ledger technology systems based on open source. To do so, potential security threats that may occur under running an open source based distributed ledger technology systems are identified and security functional requirements against the security threats identified are provided by analyzing legislation and security certification criteria (ISMS-P). In addition, it proposes a method to implement the security functions required for an open source based distributed ledger technology systems through analysis of security functional components of Common Criteria (CC), an international standard.

Recently, the web service environment has changed from document-centered to data-oriented focus, and the Linked Open Data (LOD) exists at the core of the new environment. Specific procedures and methods were examined to build the LOD of records information in accordance with this trend. With the service sustainability of small-scale archive in consideration, an exemplification on LOD building process by utilizing open source software was developed in this paper. To this end, a 5-step service framework for LOD construction was proposed and applied to a collection of diary records from 'Human and Memory Archive'. Proof of Concept (POC) utilizing open source softwares, Protege and Apache Jena Fuseki, was conducted according to the proposed 5 step framework. After establishing the LOD of record information by utilizing the open source software, the connection with external LOD through interlinking and SPARQL search has been successfully performed. In addition, archives' considerations for LOD construction, including improvement on the quality of content information, the role of the archivist, were suggested based on the understanding obtained through the LOD construction process of records information.

The emergence of open source software (OSS) with its successful projects and its most prominent advantages creates a vast interest among academics and practitioners. However, it has been found that focusing on the developments of OSS to be successful is not adequate and the adoption of OSS by uses is also very important. Although there are a great number of useful and easy to use OSS has been developed, the adoption of OSS and usage in the market is very low. Based on the technology equity implementation model (EIM), this study examines user resistance in the adoption of OSS (i.e., switching from the current system to OSS). A survey has done regarding the adoption of Linux as the case of study. We have found that user resistance to change has negative effect on adoption intention, and switching benefits, switching costs and perceived value have significant relationships with user resistance to change.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a software that manages and automate the internal processes of an organization. Process speed and quality can be increased, and cost reduced by process automation. Odoo is an open source ERP platform including more than 15000 apps. ERP systems such as Odoo are all-in-one management systems. Odoo can be suitable for small and medium organizations, but duo to efficiency limitations, Odoo is not suitable for the large ones. Furthermore, Odoo can be implemented on both local or public servers in which each has some advantages and disadvantages such as; the speed of internet, synced data or anywhere access. In many cases, there is a persistent need to have more than one synchronized Odoo instance in several physical places. We modified Odoo to support this kind of requirements and improve its efficiency by replacing its standard database with a distributed one, namely CockroachDB.

When to build a Web and Cloud Computing environment, it is essential to used a database system. Database systems includes commercial programs, such as Oracle and MS-SQL, but also similar to the performance of commercial applications, there are many free programs. In particular, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB are no costs, but the source is open to the public can be applied to a variety of environments. This paper presents an open source relational database management system, the trends are examined.

This paper presents how to establish an efficient e-Learning environment using open source software. A LMS with additional functionalities on the top of dotLRN. which is a open source project for LMS, is presented. Additional functionalities include modification of the language for Korean, adoption of SCORM educational standard, and management of learning outcome. This system had been serviced for Kongju cyber university for one year on stable basis. The scope of this paper covers introduction, characteristics review, and the learner's learning outcome analysis.

We proposed and stratified a selection standard model on Open Source Functional Board which could be found in Web. So we could grasp the weight about Performance Evaluation from the viewpoints of planners, developers, and web disigner professional of views. We suggested applying diverse measurement types in case of item which could chart Evaluation Standards on chosen sample boards. In case of item which couldn't do that, we compared and analyzed it by using selective type of 9 point scaling method on professionalists in every sample board. As a result of weight on upper estimate section of evaluation model chart, the order of importance was convenience(0.334), performance(0.333), function(0.240) and design(0.093) respectively. It indicates that there is more weight on performance and convenience which are hard to be structurally modified than designs and functions that are directly shown to the users. Also, it was evident that opposite results came out when using 9-point scale survey and measurement with objective data such as function and performance. The reason is because the surveyed subject can have his or her own subjectivity and bias unlike objective data. However, objectivity of the administrator is also an important factor thus both two perspectives have to be all considered when selecting the bulletin board.
