A technique for capturing structural crack geometry in numerical simulation based on the invariant level set method

  • Engineering structures usually suffer from cracks. The crack geometry has an influence on the structural mechanical properties and subsequent crack propagations. However, as an extensively utilized method in fracture analysis, the extended finite element method provided by Abaqus fails to output the specific location and dimensions of fractures. In this study, a technique to capture the crack geometry is proposed. The technique is based on the invariant level set method (I-LSM), which can avoid updating the level set function during crack development. The solution is achieved by an open-source plug-in programmed by Python. Three examples were performed to verify the effectiveness and robustness of the program. The result shows that the developed program can accurately output the crack geometry in both the 2D and 3D models. The open-source plug-in codes are included as supplementary material.

  • In this paper, we define a multifunction $F:X{\rightarrow}Y$ to be upper (lower) Z -supercontinuous if $F^{+}(V)(F^{-}(V))$ is z-open in X for every open set V of Y. We obtain some characterizations and several properties concerning upper (lower) Z-supercontinuous multifunctions.

  • Using the concept of interval-valued fuzzy (IVF) sets, the notions of IVF semiopen (semiclosed) sets, IVF preopen (preclosed) sets and IVF $\alpha$-open ($\alpha$-closed) sets are introduced, and interrelations are investigated. Also, the concepts of IVF open mappings, IVF preopen mappings, IVF semiopen mappings and IVF $\alpha$-open mappings are introduced, and interrelations are discussed.

  • This research focused on the improved alternatives of the ordinance which practically control the open space in-situ, public open space and landscape construction related to city landscape for the healthy physical and mental life of the city dwellers. The contents of the study are as follows: 1. The special law of Landscape Architecture should be legislated. 2. The portion of landscaping should be changed by up-grading in the Ordinance of Landscape area and planting and the terms of landscape Facilities should include the ecological aspects in it's contents in the law. 3. The administration of local governments should actively lead and support the dwellers to make the roof gardens and the window gardens in the building area of cities or commercial districts which have relatively low rate of green space. 4. Any new construction and restoration of the buildings with preservation of the natural environment and creation of public open space should be given incentive and Set-back space in aesthetic area should have appropriate planting area and facilities in it. 5. Organizing professional landscape evaluation committee and composing evaluation standards are very important because of the contemporary proposition of the establishment of the establishment of ecological space and conservation of urban natural space. Because of the characteristics of Landscape Architecture, the Provisions of landscape Architecture Design and landscape architecture supervision of the specialist should be legislated and the Landscape Architectural Organization should be established within the Government.

Finite element analysis for dynamic behavior of a machine tool structure fed in open loop control (개루프제어로 이송되는 공작기계 구조물의 동적 거동을 위한 유한 요소 해석)

  • In this study, a fmite element model was developed for analysis of feeding a structure in open loop control The finite element analysis (FEA) can simulate dynamic behavior of the structure of a machine tool rapidly traveling with a screw feeding driving system. The feeding mechanism was implemented with screw element of the FEA tool used in this study. The procedure was developed for the dynamic transient FEA. First, motion parameters such as jerk and velocity were introduced for the structure to be fed in open loop control When its traveling distance was determined, set-points for the distance were generated based on the motion parameters. The set-points were applied to the FE model constructed for the traveling structure. The FEA was executed and evaluated. In this study, the FEA procedure was applied to the column of a machine tool and the dynamic behavior of the column was evaluated. The FEA helps in evaluation of the motion characteristics of a structure. The convergence time of the structure vibration posterior to feeding termination can be estimated and the stiffness of the flexible structure is also evaluated against jerk, and acceleration. It provides the feeding force which is helpful in selection of the feeding motor.

Design of OpenScenario Structure for Content Creation Service Based on User Defined Story (사용자 정의 스토리 기반 콘텐츠 제작 서비스를 위한 오픈 시나리오 언어 구조 설계)

  • It is a story-based content creation service that provides any user with some proper contents based on a story written by the user in order to utilize a lot of contents accumulated on Internet. For this service, the story has to be described in computer-readable representation. In this paper, analyzing the structure of scenario, as known as screenplay or scripts, a structure of story representation, which is referred to as OpenScenario, is defined. We intend users to produce their own contents by using massive contents on Internet by the proposed method. The proposed method's OpenScenario consists two main parts, OSD (OpenScenario Descriptors) which is a set of descriptors to describe various objects of shots such as visual, aural and textual objects and OSS (OpenScenario Scripts) which is a set of scripts to add some effects such as image, caption, transition between shots, and background music. As an usecase of proposed method, we describe how to create new content using OpenScenario and discuss some required technologies to apply the proposed method effectively.

Implementing a set of Direct3D Functions on OpenGL (OpenGL을 이용한 Direct3D 기능의 구현)

  • In this paper, we present an emulation library for the essential features and their API function calls provided by Direct3D, the most actively used API for computer game-related application programs on the MS-Windows-based desktop's, with OpenGL library in the Linux environment. In typical Linux-based systems, only the X window system and OpenGL graphics library are available. There are lots of needs for this kind of emulation library to convert the Direct3D-based game applications and user interfaces on these systems. Through carefully selecting the essential API functions from the DirectX version 9.0, we obtained the prototype implementation of that emulation library, to finally get the final full-scale DirectX implementation. Our implementation currently covers 3D coordinate transformations, light and material processing, texture mapping, simple animation features and more. We showed its feasibility through successfully executing a set of Direct3D demonstration programs including a real-world game character animation on our implementation.
