Experimental investigation of residual stresses in cold formed steel sections

  • Residual stresses play important role for design of steel structural members. Cold formed sections usually have residual stresses caused by roll forming. When compared to stresses caused by the working load, especially for compressed members, the effects of residual stresses can be favorable or unfavorable depending on magnitude, orientation and distribution of these stresses. The research presented in this paper includes experimental investigations of residual stresses, initial imperfections and material properties on cold formed carbon steel open cross sections. Experimental results have been compared to results obtained in similar tests with stainless and high strength steel cross sections. Theoretical and experimental research, conducted for cold formed open cross sections, are important for design of axially compressed members. This paper presents two methods of residual stresses investigation: magnetic method and method of pre-drilled holes and obtained results have been compared with results of residual stresses from other authors.

  • It is necessary for us to research and analyze of Open Housing in order to change new housing system, because exiting multi family housing is lack of flexibility and easy remodeling. The purpose of this study is to supply and grasp basic planning and design data for flexibility of Open Housings in Korea. This study is based on the literature survey and actual investigation through visiting 17 open housing sites from 1995 to 2005 in Netherlands, Finland and Japan, which are main Open Housing. We analyzed the planning methods and elements for flexibility of open housing block and unit plan, and described the contents of analyses. We found a lot of planning and design methods-supplying option plan and user participation before occupation, various structural system for openness, common piping shaft location, slab-down and applying access flooring system, movable and demountable partition wall system etc. -applied to the open housings, and findings are applicable to the planning and designing works of apartment housings in Korea.

Comparative Analysis of the Responses to Intruders with Anxiety-Related Behaviors of Mouse

  • Anxiety in mice can be measured by behavioral reactivity to social or non-social stressors. These behaviors were compared by performing the resident-intruder test (social) as well as the light-dark transition and open-field tests (non-social) for the FVB, C57BL/6, and BALB/c lines of mouse. The three inbred lines showed significant differences in their responses to intruder mice. Three factors, accounting for about 68% of the total variance, were extracted from the scores obtained from the three behavioral tests. The first two major factors are primarily associated with the anxiety-related behaviors. One includes anxiety behaviors with a locomotive basis, while the other includes defecation measured in both anxiety tests. The third factor explains the three social behaviors, facial investigation, ano-genital investigation, and following, observed in the resident intruder test, although facial investigation is also moderately associated with the second factor. The results indicate that the behavioral responses to an intruder share a component distinct from anxiety-related behaviors.

  • Hydrological survey measurement technology has improved due to the introduction of high-tech equipment and advances in technology, but hydrological survey still requires a lot of manpower and time, and the manpower invested is very limited compared to the size and scope of work. In addition, although automatic flow measurement facilities are in operation, it is difficult to expand them nationwide due to limited field conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the operating infrastructure and environment rather than the measurement technology itself for hydrological investigation. In addition, in terms of flow investigation, it is necessary to schedule an investigation using real-time water level information in order to inventory the accuracy of the water-flow relationship equation and improve work efficiency. Therefore, in this paper, research related to domestic hydrological surveys was analyzed and a hydrological survey scheduling system using real- time water level information based on Open API was implemented to increase the economic and efficiency of hydrological surveys.

A Study on 4 Point Bending Strength of Carbon/epoxy Face Sheet and Honeycomb Core Sandwich Composite Structure after Open Hole Damage (카본/에폭시 면재 및 허니컴 코어 샌드위치 복합재 구조의 구멍 손상에 의한 4점 굽힘 강도 연구)

  • In this study, it was performed damage assessment and repair of small scale aircraft adopted on composite. This aircraft adopted the sandwich structure to skin of wing. This study aims to investigate the residual strength of sandwich composites with nomex honeycomb core and carbon fiber face sheets after the open hole damage by the experimental investigation. The 4-point bending tests were used to find the bending strength, and the open hole was applied to introduce the simulated damage on the specimen. The bending strength test results after open hole were compared with the results of no damaged specimen test. In addition, The damaged composite structure was repaired using external patch repair method after removing damaged area. After that, this study presents comparison results of the experimental investigation between the damaged and the repaired specimen. It was found that the bending strength of repaired specimen was recovered up to 95% of undamaged specimen.

Analysis of the Ability of Open Inquiry Performance for Pre-service Elementary Teachers (초등 예비 교사들의 자유 탐구 수행 능력 분석)

  • The revised curriculum in 2007 includes open inquiry approach to increase students' interest in science and to build up creativity. So teachers and pre-service teachers should be equipped with the ability of open inquiry performance. In order to investigate pre-service teachers' readiness to perform open inquiry tasks, we analyzed reports written as homework by a group of 71 juniors in a national university of education. The investigation tool was composed of four domains: topic selection, the inquiry process, the conclusion, and reporting. Each domain had three or four sub-domains. By using the framework, four raters scored the students' inquiry reports. The findings reveal that the pre-service elementary school teachers have difficulty in the domain of 'topic selection' and the 'conclusion' compared with the other domains. Under the topic selection domain, they showed weaknesses in 'creativity' and 'scientific topic' and under the conclusion domain, they had difficulty in 'recognizing limits' and 'value of conclusion'. The finding suggests that pre-service teaching program should provide with opportunities to perform open inquiry continually.

  • The anonymity and decentralized nature of cryptocurrencies make them highly susceptible to criminal exploitation, requiring the development of effective tracking techniques. By analyzing various open source intelligence(OSINT), such as public data, social media, and online forums, open source intelligence can provide useful information for identifying criminals and tracking the flow of cryptocurrency funds. In this study, we present a comprehensive proposal for the utilization of open source intelligence. We will discuss the current status and trends of cryptocurrency and related crimes, and introduce the concept and methodology of open source intelligence. The paper then focuses on five methods and seven frameworks of open source intelligence for tracking and analyzing cryptocurrency-related crimes, and presents techniques for the integrated application of open source intelligence methods and frameworks.

Investigation of Reliability of Flash Points and Autoignition Temperatures of Acids (산류(Acids)의 인화점과 최소자연발화온도의 신뢰성 고찰)

  • The flash point and the AIT(auto-ignition temperature) are the most important combustible properties used to determine the potential for the fire and explosion hazards of flammable material. In order to know the accuracy of data in MSDS(Material Safety Data Sheet), the flash point of n-acids were measured by using Pensky-Martens closed cup tester(ASTM D93), Setaflash closed cup tester(ASTM D3278), Tag open cup tester(ASTM D1310) and Cleveland open cup tester(ASTM D92). Also, the AIT of n-acids were measured by using ASTM E659-78 tester. The measured the flash points and the AIT were compared with literatures and MSDS in KOSHA. The measured the flash points and the AIT were different from those in literatures and MSDS. Therefore, This paper shows that it is needed to investigate the MSDS compatibility of n-acids for the fire safety objectives.

Investigation of buckling behavior of functionally graded piezoelectric (FGP) rectangular plates under open and closed circuit conditions

  • In this article, based on the higher-order shear deformation plate theory, buckling analysis of a rectangular plate made of functionally graded piezoelectric materials and its effective parameters are investigated. Assuming the transverse distribution of electric potential to be a combination of a parabolic and a linear function of thickness coordinate, the equilibrium equations for the buckling analysis of an FGP rectangular plate are established. In addition to the Maxwell equation, all boundary conditions including the conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate for closed and open circuited are satisfied. Considering double sine solution (Navier solution) for displacement field and electric potential, an analytical solution is obtained for full simply supported boundary conditions. The accurate buckling load of FGP plate is presented for both open and closed circuit conditions. It is found that the critical buckling load for open circuit is more than that of closed circuit in all loading conditions. Furthermore, it is observed that the influence of dielectric constants on the critical buckling load is more than those of others.
