  • In this paper, we investigate cooperative transmission in one-dimensional random wireless networks. In this scheme, a stationary source communicates with a stationary destination with the help of N relays, which are randomly placed in a one-dimensional network. We derive exact and approximate expressions of the average outage probability over Rayleigh fading channels. Various Monte-Carlo simulations are presented to verify the accuracy of our analyses.

  • Our basic concern in this paper is to investigate some geometric properties of the graph of a maximal monotone operator in the one dimensional case. Using a well-known theorem of Minty, we answer S. Simon's questions affirmatively in the one dimensional case. Further developments of these results are also treated. In addition, we provide a new proof of Rockafellar's characterization of maximal monotone operators on R: every maximal monotne operator from R to $2^R$ is the subdifferential of a proper convex lower semicontinuous function.

  • Based on the distinctive characteristics observed in the intensity transmittance of an IPS-LC panel, the previous one-dimensional model is greatly reduced such that only a few data points and their interpolations predict the intensity transmittance of an IPS-LCD with a small error for arbitrary gray levels. Experimental procedure and numerical methods are described in detail.

  • One dimensional optimization problem is considered, we propose a method to find the global minimum of one-dimensional function with on gradient information but only the finite number of input-output samples. We construct a learning network which has a good learning capability and of which global maximum(or minimum) can be calculated with simple calculation. By teaching this network to approximate the given function with minimal samples, we can get the global minimum of the function. We verify this method using some typical esamples.

  • Let R be a one-dimensional Noetherian domain with quotient field K and T be the integral closure of R in K. In this note we prove that if the conductor ideal (R :K T) is a nonzero prime ideal, then every finitely generated reflexive (and hence finitely generated G-projective) R-module is isomorphic to a direct sum of some ideals.

  • In this paper the theoretical method to analyse the pore water pressures in the bed under the oscillating water pressure is developed. In the former researches the validity of the theoretical treatment for the one-dimensional problem has been verified. However, the one-dimensional treatment is not sufficient to obtain the precise information concerning the many practical problems. From this point of view, in this study, we derive the fundamental equations for the general three-dimensional sand layer under the oscillating water pressure. The validity of this theoretical method is verified by experiments for the two-dimensional problems.

  • The Smoluchowski equation with a step potential is solved in one-dimensional case and three-dimensional case with spherical symmetry. Exact analytic expressions for the solution and the remaining probability are obtained in one-dimensional case for the reflecting boundary condition and the long time behavior of the remaining probability is compared with the earlier work. In three-dimensional case, only the long time behavior is evaluated. More general case with the radiation boundary condition is also investigated and the results are shown to approach correct limits of the reflecting boundary condition.

  • One-dimensional array of InAs quantum dots (QDs) have been grown on V-grooved GaAs substrates by low-pressure metalorganic chemical vapor deposition. Atomic force microscope images show that InAs QDs are aligned in one-dimensional rows along the [011]oriented bottom of V-grooves and no QDs are formed on the sidewalls and the surface of mesa top. Capability to grow one-dimensional InAs QDs array would feasible for the single electron tunneling devices and other novel quantum-confined devices.

  • This paper describes how the optical properties of a quasi-one-dimensional photonic crystalline waveguide having a periodic air cavity are influenced by various structural parameters; the electromagnetic fields are simulated using the finite-difference time-domain method. The simulations considered four design parameters: cavity size, defect size, lattice constant, and number of cavity. The parameter sensitivity of the photonic bandgap property of the waveguide having air cavities is examined. A couple of significant design guidelines are obtained. We show that the quasi-one-dimensional photonic crystalline waveguide has significant unrealized potential.

  • Three-dimensional dynamic analyses of underground openings subjected to explosive loadings are carried out. Dynamic analyses consist of two steps; one-dimensional source calculation and three-dimensional tunnel analysis. One-dimensional source calculation includes explosive charge and the free field surrounding rock. The input pressure time history for three-dimensional tunnel analysis is obtained from the companion one-dimensional source calculation. The computer program MPDAP-3D incorporated this analysis capability. It is shown that the computer program is a useful tool for the analysis of the structural safety evaluation of underground openings during construction by drill and blasting method.
