  • In this paper, a new logic transformation method to consider both low power consumption and high testability is proposed. We search the CFF(Compact Fanout Free) that has low probability of being observable at the primary outputs. Under the condition that the CFF is unobservable at all primary outputs, the switching operations in it can be removed by adding redundant connections into it. The testability of the transformed circuit generally tends to reduce. In our method, however, the inserted redundant connections operate as test points in the test mode and can improve not only the controllability but also the observability of the CFF. The transformed circuit consumes less power in the normal mode and also has higher testability in the test mode. To show the efficiency of the proposed logic transformation method, we perform some experiments on the MCNC benchmark test circuits. The results show that the power consumption of the transformed circuit is reduced by 13% maximally and the fault coverage of the transformed circuit is increased.

  • This study examined methods to enhance navigation performance and reduce the divergence of navigation solutions that may occur in the event of global positioning system (GPS) failure by integrating the GPS/inertial navigation system (INS) with the three-dimensional (3D) magnetic vector measurements of a magnetometer. A magnetic heading aiding method that employs a magnetometer has been widely used to enhance the heading performance in low-cost GPS/INS navigation systems with insufficient observability. However, in the case of GPS failure, wrong heading information may further accelerate the divergence of the navigation solution. In this study, a method of integrating the 3D magnetic vector measurements of a magnetometer is proposed as a countermeasure for the case where the GPS fails. As the proposed method does not require attitude information for integration unlike the existing magnetic heading aiding method, it is applicable even in case of GPS failure. In addition, the existing magnetic heading aiding method utilizes only one-dimensional information in the heading direction, whereas the proposed method uses the two-dimensional attitude information of the magnetic vector, thus improving the observability of the system. To confirm the effect of the proposed method, simulation was performed for the normal operation and failure situation of GPS. The result confirmed that the proposed method improved the accuracy of the navigation solution and reduced the divergence speed of the navigation solution in the case of GPS failure, as compared with that of the existing method.

  • Seismic load is distributed to modes of a structure through the modal participation factor(MPF). The modal participation factor is essential to analyze structural response under earthquake load. MPF of a real structure differs from that of analytical mathematical model due to the error induced from analytical assumptions and during the construction. In this study, an identification method is proposed to calculate the 1st MPF of real structure based on $H^{\infty}$ optimal model reduction. The MPF is obtained from the relationship between observability and controllability matrices realized from system identification and those of a prototype 2-degree state space model. The proposed method is verified thorough numerical examples.

  • Testability analysis computes controllabilities and observabilities of all lines of a circuit and then evaluates fault coverage. The values of controllability and observability as well as fault coverage produced by testability analysis are used for applications of testability analysis. ITEM was evaluated as a fault coverage tool. But the values of controllability and observability at all lines of circuits must be estimated as a performance measure of testability tools for another application such as partial scan. In this paper, partial scan method based on sensitivity analysis which estimates relative improvement of detectability of circuits after scanning a flip-flop is used for performance evaluation of ITEM. Performance of ITEM, with respect to testability values on each net, has been measured by comparing ITEM and STAFAN. Partial scan performance achieved by ITEM is very similar to that of STAFAN, but ITEM takes less CPU time. Therefore ITEM is very efficient for partial scan application because ITEM runs faster for very large circuits in which execution time is critical.

  • By entering the information society, the trend of increasing use of the cyber education to deliver high-Quality educational programs is likely to continue. For instance, supported by the government agencies, central officials training institute is expending vast amounts of money for the installation of cyber education programs. However, much of the research that has been done concerns the discrepancy between the potential and the actual use of technology in the field of education and training. The intent of this study was to identify the decision of the adoption of cyber education among national officials who had just peceived the existence the cyber education programs which would be used for their professional training and development, and to investigate the relationships between the Rogers' five attributes of innovation (relative advantage, compatibility, easy of use, observability, trialiability) and their decision of adoption. The results of the study generally concurred with Rogers diffusion of innovation theory revealing that perceived compatibility, easy of use, and observability of cyber education are significant predictors of decision to participate in cyber education.

  • This letter proposes an efficient kernel-based partitioning algorithm for reducing area and power dissipation in combinational circuit designs using don't-care sets. The proposed algorithm decreases power dissipation by partitioning a given circuit using a kernel extracted from the logic. The proposed algorithm also reduces the area overhead by minimizing duplicated gates in the partitioned sub-circuits. The partitioned subcircuits are further optimized utilizing observability don't-care sets. Experimental results for the MCNC benchmarks show that the proposed algorithm synthesizes circuits that on the average consume 22.5% less power and have 12.7% less area than circuits generated by previous algorithms based on a precomputation scheme.

  • In this paper, we discuss decentralized optimal fault tolerant supervisory control issues on the basis of failure analysis and diagnosis from the angle of discrete event dynamic system. We address the detectability and the observability problems, and develope fault tolerant supervisory control system upon the failure analysis and diagnosis schemes. A complete min-cut is introduced and the procedure for finding the achievable or nonachievable layered optimal legal sublanguages is suggested for a preferential option among the reachable states in the controlled plant. A layered optimal supervisory control framework is proposed upon these. We extend the concept of decentralized supervisory control by considering the problem of combination of decentralized with centralized control in case pure decentralized control happens to be inadequate. We introduce the concept of locally controllable pair and present a hybrid decentralized supervisory control framework. Finally, we propose the analytical framework for a decentralized optimal fault tolerant supervisory control systems.

  • This paper proposes a stabilizing controller for the multirate sampled-data systems which have a periodic output measurement scheme. A sufficient condition for maintaining observability in the multirate sampled-data system is derived and a design strategy for disturbance rejection is proposed. The proposed controller has IMC structure, and can be decomposed into the disturbance estimator and the inverse of the fast uniform sampled plant. We assume that the plant is open-loop stable and the disturbance consists of a sum of finite number of sinusoids with different frequencies. An example is presented for illustrations.

  • The observer design problem is studied for a class of multi-output nonlinear systems that are not necessarily observable. Generalized nonlinear observer canonical form is introduced for multi-output nonlinear systems to design nonlinear observers. Sufficient conditions are given for a nonlinear system to be transformed by state-space change of coordinates into generalized nonlinear observer canonical form. Based on this canonical from, a sufficient condition is also given for the existence of nonlinear observers. An illustrative example is presented to show the design procedure of the proposed method.

  • This paper deals with a model reduction problem for the linear systems with state delay. After defining the controllability/observability Gramians, the concept of a balanced model for the linear systems with state delay is introduced. Based on solutions of linear matrix inequalities, the model reduction method with guaranteed error bounds is developed. In order to demonstrate the efficacy of teh suggested method, a numerical example is also performed.
