  • A scramjet engine intake model was tested with a storage air heater type hypersonic wind tunnel. In test results, there is no large performance change with the variation of the sidewall configurations. In the isolator performance analysis, pressure distribution of oblique shock train and normal shock train was observed. Unstart limit of the model was also confirmed.

Analytical solutions for skewed thick plates subjected to transverse loading

  • This paper presents analytical solutions for skewed thick plates under transverse loading that have previously been unreported in the literature. The thick plate solution is obtained in a framework of an oblique coordinate system. The governing equation is first derived in the oblique coordinate system, and the solution is obtained using deflection and rotation as partial derivatives of a potential function developed in this research. The solution technique is applied to three illustrative application examples, and the results are compared with numerical solutions in the literature and those derived from the commercial finite element analysis package ANSYS 11. These results are in excellent agreement. The present solution may also be used to model skewed structures such as skewed bridges, to facilitate efficient routine design or evaluation analyses, and to form special elements for finite element analysis. At the same time, the analytical solution developed in this research could be used to develop methods to address post-buckling and dynamic problems.

  • The purpose of this paper is to simulate the collision between a KHST 3D model and an oblique truck and to investigate zigzagging phenomenon. The used train model is the deformable KHST 3D model, its velocity is 110kph, and the angle of the truck is 30 degree. In order to check lateral forces between wheels and rails, the KEYWORDs that LS_DYNA provides, *RAIL_TRACK and *RAIL_TRAIN are used.

  • Anti-reflection properties of post diffusion doped spin-on source (in-situ AR coating) have been investigated in some detail. A simple experiment for reflectivity study using oblique incidence of light and necessary modification of the theory of minimum reflectivity at oblique incidence has been established.   • We have studied electrode-optic characteristics of IPS (in-plane switching) mode with electrode on top substrate. Because the IPS mode does not have electrode on top substrate. it shows not only slow response time due to weak electric field but also slow discharging problem when electrostatic field is generated after fabricating the cell. To solve these problems. we have formed additional electrode including dielectric layer in the inner part of the cell and studied electrode-optic characteristics of new IPS cell by changing thickness of dielectric layer.

  • A method using beamforming algorithm has been developed to measure oblique incidence reflection coefficients of sound absorption materials. MUSIC(multiple signal classification) method detects the angles of incidence and reflection. By separating the incident and reflected waves using beamforming method, the reflection coefficient is calculated. Spatial smoothing technique Is also used to reduce the coherence between the incident and reflected waves. Numerical and experiment results are performed to verify the accuracy of proposed method.

  • 스퍼터링을 이용하여 금속을 코팅하면 대부분 주상정 형태의 미세구조로 성장한다. 금속 코팅층의 미세구조를 코팅공정으로 제어하여 치밀한 구조의 코팅층을 합성하기 위해서 평형(balanced magnetron)과 비평형(unbalanced magnetron) 스퍼터링에 의한 박막 구조 변화를 비교하고, 빗각 증착(oblique angle deposition) 효과가 코팅층의 미세구조에 미치는 영향을 확인하였다. 실험에 사용된 타겟은 6 인치 직경의 알루미늄이었으며 기판은 실리콘 웨이퍼와 냉연강판이 사용되었다. 알루미늄 코팅층은 주사전자현미경으로 미세구조를 관찰하였으며, 미세구조 변화가 내부식 특성에 미치는 영향을 평가하기 위해서 알루미늄이 코팅된 냉연강판의 염수분무 시험을 실시하였다. 빗각 증착에 의한 코팅층 미세구조 변화가 가장 두드러지게 나타났으며, 빗각 증착에 의해서 알루미늄 코팅층이 치밀해지는 현상을 관찰할 수 있었다. 알루미늄이 코팅된 냉연강판을 분석한 결과, 빗각 증착으로 코팅된 알루미늄 코팅층이 두께 약 $3{\mu}m$에서 염수분무 200 시간 후에도 적청이 발생하지 않는 우수한 내식성을 보였다.

Oblique transnasal wiring canthopexy via Y-V epicanthoplasty for telecanthus correction in a patient with Waardenburg syndrome

  • Telecanthus is a common symptom accompanied by Waardenburg syndrome, a rare genetic disorder. The optimal surgery for telecanthus correction is still debated. A 28-year-old patient with Waardenburg syndrome underwent transnasal wiring canthopexy using a Y-V epicanthoplasty for telecanthus correction. A Mini-Monoka stent was used to prevent damage to the lacrimal apparatus. The intercanthal distance decreased from 50 mm to 43.2 mm. The easily designed Y-V epicanthoplasty incision provides sufficient operative field for oblique transnasal wiring, which is effective in properly positioning the medial canthal tendon. It has minimal scarring resulting in satisfactory cosmetic outcomes.

Application of Plate and Circumferential Wiring with Resin to Bilateral Mandibular Fractures in a Calf: Case Report

  • A 2-month-old, 50 kg male Korean native calf was referred with bilateral mandibular fractures. The bilateral mandible was hanging loose, with inability to use the jaw, indicated by excessive salivation. Radiography revealed a long oblique fracture in the right mandible, and a short oblique fracture in the left mandible. Computerized Tomography, a different form of radiography, revealed the fracture in the left mandible to be a comminuted fracture. In order to stabilize the bilateral mandible fractures, a combination of bone plate and wiring was applied; in addition, resin was applied to enhance stabilization of the mandible. Six weeks after surgery, the calf was able to masticate and ruminate well. In this case, application of the plate and wiring with resin to bilateral mandibular fractures presented a successful functional recovery. Accordingly, the combination of bone plate and wiring with resin can be an effective technique for treating mandibular fractures.

Ultrahigh supercapacitance in cobalt oxide nanorod film grown by oblique angle deposition technique

  • Nanorod films of cobalt oxide ($Co_3O_4$) have been grown by a unique oblique angle deposition (OAD) technique in an e-beam evaporator for supercapacitor electrode applications. This technique offers a non-chemical route to achieve large aspect ratio nanorods. The fabricated electrodes at OAD $80^{\circ}$ exhibited a specific capacitance of 2875 F/g. The electrochemically active surface area was $1397cm^{-2}$, estimated from the non-Faradaic capacitive current region. Peak energy and power densities obtained for $Co_3O_4$ nanorods were 57.7 Wh/Kg and 9.5 kW/kg, respectively. The $Co_3O_4$ nanorod electrode showed a good endurance of 2000 charge-discharge cycles with 62% retention. The OAD approach for fabricating supercapacitor nanostructured electrodes can be exploited for the fabrication of a broad range of metal oxide materials.
