  • In this paper, we propose a new method to desing IIR Nyquist filters. By thismethod, we can design IIR nyquist filters which prossess linear phase characteristics andare lower in order than FIR Nyquist filters. WE derive expressions for zero-phased IIR Nyquist filters and propose new desing methods for them. An iteration process is used to design the proposed IIR Nyquist filter, and in each iteration step a modified version of the Remez exchange algorithm is used. Finally, the propose desing method is demonstrated through design examples.

  • To verify validity of the steady-state Nyquist theorem and the steady-state Nyquist theorem with hot carrier effects in semiconductor devices, we calculate thermal noise in n-i-n structures using both the steady-state Nyquist theorem and the Monte-Carlo method, and compare the results from these two-methods. When the carrier temperature is not far from the lattice temperature, the results from both methods agree with each other very well, but in the hot carrier regime there are some discrepancies. Our results support the argument that for MOSFETs and MESFETs operating in the linear region, the channel thermal noise should be explained by the steady-state Nyquist theorem rather than by the existing theories.

  • We propose cooperative spectrum sensing schemes based on sub-Nyquist sampling. As compressed sensing has recently attracted great attention, sparsity order estimation techniques also has been widely investigated. Thus, assuming that the sparsity order of channel occupancy can be obtained, we mathematically analyze the detection performance of sub-Nyquist sampling schemes according to various sampling rates and cooperative spectrum sensing schemes. Simulation results verify the performance of the proposed schemes.

  • To resolve thd discrepancy between the existing channel thermal noise theory of MOSFETs and a new theory called the stady-state Nyquist theorem, we have measured the channel thermal noise of specially designed MOSFETs with both uniform and nonuniform channels. the experimental results clearly show that the correct theory of the channel thermal nois in MOSFETs should be the steady-state Nyquist theorem.

  • FTN(Faster-Than-Nyquist) signaling is a method of transmitting symbols at rates faster than the Nyquist rate in the same bandwidth by overlapping transmission pulses. The transmission power of the FTN signal is greater than that of the Nyquist signal, because the number of symbols in the FTN signal is larger than that in the Nyquist signal for the same time interval. Hence, to evaluate the performance of an FTN-based transmission system properly, the performance evaluation criterion should be carefully set, and conversion formulas among the criteria which are used in Nyquist-based system should also be applied attentively. In this paper, the performance evaluation criteria of the FTN-based transmission system is analyzed and a valid way to set the criteria is proposed.

  • Underwater communication has multipath error because of reflection by sea-level and sea-bottom. The multipath of underwater channel causes signal distortion and error floor. The excessive multipath encountered in underwater communication channel creates inter symbol interference, which is a limiting factor to achieve a high data rate and bit error rate performance. Therefore, to increase throughput efficiency and improve performance, this paper consider FTN (Faster-than-Nyquist) signalling based on turbo equalization. FTN signalling is a technique of transmitting information at a rate higher than the allowed Nyquist limit. This paper presented efficient decoder structure of FTN transmission in the environment of multipath underwater channel and we compare the performance between FTN method and conventional punctured method in lake experimentation. As a results of lake experiment, we confirmed FTN method based on turbo equalization is applicable and efficiency in underwater communication.

  • The sub-Nyquist nonuniform sampling (SNNS) and the perfect reconstruction (PR) formula are proposed for the development of a systematic method to obtain minimal representation of a speech signal. In the proposed method, the instantaneous sampling frequency (ISF) varies, depending on the least upper boundary of spectral support of a speech signal in time-frequency domain (TFD). The definition of the instantaneous bandwidth (IB), which determines the ISF and is used for generating the set of samples that represent continuous-time signals perfectly, is given. Also, the spectral characteristics of the sampled data generated by the sub-Nyquist nonuniform sampling method is analyzed. The proposed method doesn't generate the redundant samples due to the time-varying property of the instantaneous bandwidth of a speech signal.

  • In this paper, a new model reduction method is proposed to obtain a reduced order model in the frequency domain. The method is developed based on the second-order plus dead time modeling technique. The initial value of the reduced model parameters can be obtained using this method coinciding four point(0, -$\pi$/2, -$\pi$, -3$\pi$/2) on the Nyquist curve. The optimal parameters of the reduced model is obtained through calculation procedure with three steps. It is shown that Nyquist curves and unit step responses of the reduced models of numerical examples closely agree with those of original models.

  • In this paper, we analyzed efficient decoding scheme with FTN(Faster than Nyquist) method that is transmission method faster than Nyquist theory and increase the throughput. Applying the FTN method to satellite and underwater communication, we proposed an efficient transceiver model. To minimize ISI(Inter-Symbol Interference) induced by FTN signal, turbo equalization algorithms that iteratively exchange probabilistic information between Viterbi equalizer based on BCJR algorithm and LDPC decoder are used in satellite communication. In others, for underwater communication, DFE equalizer and LDPC decoder are concatenated to improve performance.

  • The problem of sub-Nyquist nonuniform sampling for the perfect reconstruction of signals with time-varying spectral contents is studied. The signals are assumed to have a known instantaneous bandwidth in time-frequency domain. As the function of time, the nonuniform sampling pattern of a given signal, that is, the instantaneous sampling frequency is determined by the observation of instantaneous bandwidth based on time-frequency analysis. The proposed sampling pattern guarantees the perfect reconstruction of nonuniform sampled signals under Nyquist-sampling rate in average.
