  • Radioactive Phosphorus $(^{32}P)$ was administered intramuscularlly to the newly hatched chicken in the purpose of determination of the uptake and the distribution, as related to sex and hour differences of the several organs of the bodies. $2\;{\mu}\;of\;^{32}P$ was administered to each chick, and the distribution of 32P was observed in 1 hour and 24 hours after administration. In this experiment 80 heads of chicken were used(40 chicken were one day and 40 chicken were 7 days old) and the results obtained as follows: 1. The tissue showed an uptake rate of $^{32}P$ dose per 100 milligram of tissue in one day old chicken, with the following sequence: Males (1 hour): Femur. Liver. G., Muscle. Testis. Brain (24 hour): Femur, Testis, Gastrocnemius Muscle, Liver, Brain. Female(1 hour): Femur, Liver, Gastronemius Muscle, Ovary, Brain. (24 hour): Femur, Liver, Gastrocnemius Muscle, Ovary, Brain. 2. In 1 hour, the uptake rate of $^{32}P$ of the tissues showed significant difference between the male and the female except the gastrocnemius muscle and the brain in one day old group, but they were no significance except the testis and ovary after 24 hours. 3. The distribution of $^{32}P$ of the tissues exhibited higher in 1 hour than in 24 hours except the femur, the brain of the male and female, the brain and gastrocnemius muscle of the female in one day old group. 4. The tissue showed an uptake rate of $^{32}P$ dose per 100 miligram of tissue in 7days old chicken, with the following sequence: Male (1 hour): femur, liver, gastrocmenius muscle, testis, brain. (24 hour): femur, testis, gastrocmenius muscle, liver, brain. Female(1 hour): femur, liver, gastrocmenius muscle, ovary, brain. (24 hour): femur, ovary, liver, gastrocmenius muscle, brain. 5. • This study was a survey of consumer awareness and attitudes about genetically modified foods and their labeling regulations. Questionnaires were distributed to 4,620 consumers who lived in different areas of Korea, and 4,076 people responded. The consumers were asked about knowledge, labeling information, and their sources of information about GM foods. Respondents from Seoul, Jeonnam, and Gyeongnam answered mostly "nearly don't know > moderate > never know > know a little." Respondents from Gyeonggi answered "moderate > nearly don't know > never know > know a little." According to occupation, housewives, company employees, consultants, and students answered mostly "nearly don't know > moderate > never know > know a little. "Consumers answered about the intent to buy GM foods differently according to area, occupation, and education. Seoul and Gyeonggi residents said that reinforcing factors to relieve the insecurity of GM foods were "evaluating safety > management of GM foods by the government > GM food regulation system." There were other answers according to area, occupation, and education. About GM-related education methods that they wished to have, residents of the Seoul area said "books/leaflets" most often, but residents of the Gyounggi area said "attending a lecture" most often. Housewives also said "attending a lecture," but teachers and students said "Internetbased education" most often. About the kinds of education that they could join, Seoul residents answered "consumer groups > school parents > public institutions," but Gyeonggi and Chungnam area residents answered "public institutions > consumer groups > school parents." Housewives and students answered "consumer groups" most often, but consultants and private business owners answered "public institutions" most often. We realized that different education methods were necessary for different areas, occupations, and education levels.

  • The purpose of this report was to investigate change in glycoalkaloid content (${\alpha}-chaconine$, ${\alpha}-solanine$) which contained in the cortex and medulla part during storage of two varieties of potato, Irish Cobbler and May Queen at $1^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$. The tubers of both varities stored at $20^{\circ}C$ showed sprouting and ${\alpha}-chaconine$ and ${\alpha}-solanine$ contained in cortex part increased, particularly the extent of increase was more noticeable in May Queen than in Irish Cobbler. The content of glycoalkaloid in tubers stored at $1^{\circ}C$ also increased continuously. A small amount of ${\alpha}-chaconine$ was detected in the medulla part of both varieties, but ${\alpha}-solanine$ was not detected at all.

  • The difference of glycoalkaloids content on various parts of May Queen and Irish Cobbler potatoes was determined. ${\alpha}-Chaconine$ and ${\alpha}-Solanine$ were isolated from the glycoalkaloids by use of high performance liquid chromatography. It was found that the 99% of the total glycoalkaloids was existent in cortex part of all varieties. Glycoalkaloids content was higher in apical or basal part than the middle part. ${\alpha}-Chaconine$ content of the cortex showed no differences among parts of the potato in both varieties. ${\alpha}-Solanine$ was not detected in medulla part. The potatoes were classified into 4 groups depending on the weight and the glycoalkaloids content of the middle part. As the weight of the potato decreased the glycoalkaloids content of cortex part increased. Glycoalkaloids content was lower in medulla part and no constant tendency was observed.
