Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test the effects of clinical practice in school on clinical competence in nurse. Method: This study used a quasi experimental post-test design. Data were collected after post-test from April 1, 2005 to May 30, 2005 and from 73 clinical nurses(53 experimental group, 20 control group) who work for 4 General hospitals. Data were analyzed using SPSSWIN 11.5 with $X^2$-test, t-test, Mann-Whitney U-test, and stepwise multiple regression. The experimental group participated in treatment : 4-week consecutive clinical nursing education with preceptor in schooling, and the control group participated in treatment : traditional clinical nursing education with preceptor in schooling. Results: Clinical competence were significantly different between experimental and control groups(t=3.221, p=.002). Clinical competence in nurse is effected by satisfaction of clinical practice in schooling in experimental group(F=14.781, p=.000). Conclusion: 4-week consecutive clinical nursing education with preceptor has an effect on clinical competence in nurse. Therefore we should spread and reinforce the 4-week consecutive clinical nursing education program for improving clinical competence of nurse.
Purpose: This study purposed to examine the effect of the neonatal assessment ability and neonatal care ability of nursing students according to practice at school. Methods: The participants were 91 nursing students in the experimental group and 89 control group. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, fishers exact test, t-test, ANOVA. Results: The mean score of neonatal assessment ability was $39.01{\pm}2.19$ in experimental group, $30.20{\pm}6.48$ in control group. The mean score of neonatal care ability was $39.43{\pm}2.31$ in experimental group, $33.67{\pm}5.17$ in control group. Conclusion: From the studies reviewed, it can expect the positive effect to improving the infant care competence of nursing students in clinical field through pediatric nursing practice at school.
Purpose: This study was done to provide data for a nursing intervention to alleviate newborn pain clinically by investigating the effect of oral glucose. Methods: Subjects were newborns hospitalized in the nursery. Informed consent was obtained from parents of 60 newborns. A heel stick was carried out for a test on 3 groups; the experimental, placebo, and control group. The Neonatal infant pain scale(NIPS), respiration rate, heart rate, peripheral oxygen partial pressure($SpO_2$), and crying duration were measured to assess pain reaction. All neonatal behaviors were recorded on videotape. Results: There were significant differences in pain behavior during stimulus(F=4.195, p=.020), pain behavior immediately after blood-sampling (F=4.114, p=.021), and pain behavior 3 minutes after that (F=3.630, p=.033). However, there were no significant differences in heart rate, respiration rate, peripheral oxygen partial pressure or crying duration after the heel stick among the groups. Conclusions: Oral administration of glucose before a heel stick caused the reduction of neonatal pain behavior, which means that it has an effect of pain relief.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships of suicidal ideation and self-esteem of nursing students. The subjects of the study were 438 nursing students. The period of data collection was from September 1 to 30, 2012. The data was analyzed by SPSS 19.0 program. The result are as follows; First, the average of suicidal ideation was 1.74 and self esteem was 3.48 points. Second, suicidal ideation was significantly different according to economic status, health status, friendship, personality, adaptation of environment, satisfaction on school, satisfaction on nursing major, score, and bully. Self-esteem was significantly different according to economic status, health status, personality, adaptation of environment, satisfaction on school, satisfaction on nursing major, score, and bully. Third, suicidal ideation was correlated with positive self esteem negatively and negative self esteem positively. Forth, the influencing factor in suicidal ideation of participant were self esteem, friendship and satisfaction on school, $R^2$=.370. Thus, development of guidance program to decrease suicidal ideation of nursing students is recommended.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the meaning of nursing students' experiences in virtual simulation practice. Methods: The participants were six nursing students who have experience in a virtual simulation. Data were collected from August to September 2019 through a focus group interview. Giorgi's phenomenological method was used for analysis. Results: The study results revealed 3 constituents and 6 sub-constituents that are essential for nursing student's experiences in a virtual simulation. The three constituents were: "Chaos in the virtual reality", "The process of adjusting to chaos", and "Becoming an independent nurse in a safe virtual reality". Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, the following suggestions are made. Results suggest the development of virtual simulations in Korean, the use of simulations as a group activity first, and the use of simulation between lecture and practice or in the regular curriculum. The results of the study can be used as primary data for providing virtual simulation in nursing education.
Background: This study conducted to determine breast cancer awareness and influencing factors among nursing students in the West Black Sea Region in Turkey. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted between April-May, 2014. The sample was 270 female nursing students. Data were collected by Personal Information Form and Champion's Health Belief Model Scale (CHBMS). Results: The students' mean age was $21.6{\pm}2.09$ and 81.1% had knowledge about breast cancer from their academic education. It is found that 63.7% of the students performed Breast Self-Examination (BSE) and 11.1% had a family member diagnosed with breast cancer. The CHBMS mean score of the students was $117.7{\pm}14.5$. Conclusions: Breast cancer awareness of nursing students is on a good level and was affected by family history of breast cancer and health beliefs.

Objectives: To examine whether the nursing practice environment at the hospital-level affects the job satisfaction and turnover intention of hospital nurses. Methods: Among the 11 731 nurses who participated in the Korea Health and Medical Workers' Union's educational program, 5654 responded to our survey. Data from 3096 nurses working in 185 general inpatient wards at 60 hospitals were analyzed using multilevel logistic regression modeling. Results: Having a standardized nursing process (odds ratio [OR], 4.21; p<0.001), adequate nurse staffing (OR, 4.21; p<0.01), and good doctor-nurse relationship (OR, 4.15; p<0.01), which are hospital-level variables based on the Korean General Inpatients Unit Nursing Work Index (KGU-NWI), were significantly related to nurses' job satisfaction. However, no hospital-level variable from the KGU-NWI was significantly related to nurses' turnover intention. Conclusions: Favorable nursing practice environments are associated with job satisfaction among nurses. In particular, having a standardized nursing process, adequate nurse staffing, and good doctor-nurse relationship were found to positively influence nurses' job satisfaction. However, the nursing practice environment was not related to nurses' turnover intention.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore the subjective perception structures and types of empathy among nurses caring for patients with behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) using Q-methodology. Methods: Thirty-eight Q-samples (statements) were derived from in-depth interviews with 10 nurses working in long-term care hospitals and nursing homes. The Q-sorting was conducted in rank order (the responses obtained by each of the 30 nurses working at 3 long-term care hospitals and 4 nursing homes) into a normal distribution grid (from -4 to +4). The types of empathy among participants were analyzed using the PC-QUANL program. Results: Five types of empathy accounting for 48.5% of the total variance were categorized as follows: (1) taking the patients' personality into consideration while helping, (2) interacting closely and emotionally, (3) supporting the patient as a companion, (4) performing the duty in a defensive manner, and (5) resolving patients' problems by focusing on their needs. Conclusion: This study shows that there are various types of empathy in nurses caring for patients with BPSD. Therefore, it is necessary to develop strategies and educative programs to enhance empathy competency and deal with burnout based on the type of empathy.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in the states of anger, depression, resilience and self-esteem according to type of school violence involving elementary school students. Methods: The participants were 257 elementary school students in the 4th, 5th and 6th grades. Data was collected by structured questionnaires, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficients with the SPSS/WIN 20.0 program. Results: There were significant differences among the states of anger (Fs=16.66, p<.001), depression (Fs=18.04, p<.001), resilience (F=12.77, p<.001) and self-esteem (F=10.39, p<.001) according to the type of school violence. Of all the groups, bully-victim exhibited the highest score for anger and depression, and the lowest score for resilience and self-esteem. Conclusion: Based on the findings, developing intervention programs that consider the psychological characteristics of elementary school students is necessary. Also, the results of this study suggest that integrative programs for students that can enhance resilience and self-esteem, such as self-discovery programs, and reduce anger, such as anger control programs, need to be developed.
