  • Real-Time Hybrid Testing (RTHT) requires the numerical substructure calculations to be completed within the defined integration time interval due to its real-time loading demands. For solving the problem, A Real-Time Hybrid Testing based on Restart-Loading Technology (RTHT-RLT) is proposed in this paper. In the proposed method, in case of the numerical substructure calculations cannot be completed within the defined integration time interval, the experimental substructure was returned back to the initial state statically. When the newest loading commands were calculated by the numerical substructure, the experimental substructure was restarted loading from the initial state to the newest loading commands so as to precisely disclosing the dynamic performance of the experimental substructure. Firstly, the methodology of the RTHT-RLT is proposed. Furthermore, the numerical simulations and experimental tests on one frame structure with a viscous damper are conducted for evaluating the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed RTHT-RLT. It is shown that the proposed RTHT-RLT innovatively renders the nonreal-time refined calculation of the numerical substructure feasible for the RTHT. The numerical and experimental results show that the proposed RTHT-RLT exhibits excellent performance in terms of stability and accuracy. The proposed RTHT-RLT may have broad application prospects for precisely investigating the dynamic behavior of large and complex engineering structures with specific experimental substructure where a restarting procedure does not affect the relevant hysteretic response.

  • An experimental and numerical study of a spray flow is performed to investigate the spray characteristics using an air-assisted atomizer. A Partical Dynamic Analyzer(PDA) is used to measure SMD, dmp velocity, and drop number density whose the initial conditions have considerable effect on the numerical results. The measured experimental data have been used to asses the accuracy of model predictions. Numerical investigation is made with the Eulerian - Lagrangian formulism. Turbulent dispersion effects using a Monte-Carlo method, turbulent modulation effect and entrainment of air are also numerically simulated. Results show that the numerical predictions of SSF(Stochastic Separated Flow) analysis yielded reasonable agreement with the experimental data. However, the model calculations for small drops produced the inconsistent numerical results due to the effect of surrounding air entrainment.

  • A numerical analysis was carried out to investigate the degradation of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) in photocatalytic microreactors with different inner geometries. Two different cases of microreactor were considered, namely, one microreactor has bump on the channel and the other has no bump on the channel. The removal efficiency of VOC has been calculated by the Langmuir-Hinshelwood reaction rate equation that was obtained from the experimental results. From the numerical calculations, it was observed that the conversion ratio of VOC for the microchannel with bump is about 4.5% greater than the microchannel without bump. And the mass transfer characteristics in the microreactor are also shown in numerical results. These results can be used effectively for the photocatalytic numerical analysis.

  • Because of the importance of suction or injection in the fields of aerodynamics, space science and many other industrial applications, our present study is motivated. The effect of natural convection on MHD flow past a vertical plate with suction or injection is studied. We have tried to solve the dimensionless governing equations by using finite difference scheme. To ensure the validity of our numerical solutions, we have compared our numerical solutions for temperature and velocity for the case of suction and injection for unit Prandtl number with the available exact solutions in the literature. The corresponding codes were written in Mathematica 5.0 for calculating numerical solutions for temperature and velocity and the comparison between the exact and numerical solutions. For the purpose of discussing the results some numerical calculations are carried out for non-dimensional temperature T, velocity u, skin friction ${\tau}$ and the Nusselt number $N_u$, by making use of it, the rate of heat transfer is studied.

  • Liquid molding processes, such as resin transfer molding, involve resin flow through a porous medium inside a mold cavity. Numerical analysis of resin flow and mold filling is a very useful means for optimization of the manufacturing process. However, the numerical analysis is quite time consuming and requires a great deal of effort, since a separate numerical calculation is needed for every set of material properties, part size and injection conditions. The efforts can be appreciably reduced if similarity solutions are used instead of repeated numerical calculations. In this study, the similarity relations for pressure, resin velocity and flow front propagation are proposed to correlate another desired case from the already obtained numerical result. In other words, the model gives a correlation of flow induced variables between two different cases. The model was verified by comparing results obtained by the similarity relation and by independent numerical simulation.

  • In this study, a numerical prediction method on manoeuvrability of Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV) is presented. Planar Motion Mechanism (PMM) captive test for the bare hull of WTIV is carried out in the model basin and compared with the numerical results using RANS simulation based on Open-source Field Operation And Manipulation (OpenFOAM) calculation to validate the developed method. The manoeuvrability of WTIV with skeg and/or without skeg is investigated using the numerical approach along with the captive model test. In the numerical calculations, the dynamic stability index which indicates the course keeping ability is evaluated and compared for three different hull configurations i.e. bare hull and other two hulls with center skeg and twin skeg. This paper proves that the numerical approach using RANS simulation can be readily applied to estimate the manoeuvrability of WTIV at the initial design stage.

  • A measuring instrument must be calibrated for accurate inferences of an unknown quantity. Bayesian calibration designs with respect to squared error loss based on a linear model are discussed in Kim and Barlow (1992). In this paper, we consider approximations of the optimal calibration designs using the idea of Gaussian inflence diagrams. The approximation is evaluated by means of numerical calculations, where it is compared with the exact values from the numerical integration.

  • Numerical calculations are carried out in order to evaluate the performance of low-Re Reynolds stress model based on SSG model for a swirling turbulent flow in a pipe. The results are compared with those of $\kappa-\epsilon$ model and GL model, and the experimental data. The finite volume method is used for the discretization, and the power-law scheme is employed as a numerical scheme. The SIMPLE algorithm is used for velocity-Pressure correction in the governing equations.

Method condition was considered as well as fixed condition and freely floating condition. From the calculation results, main characteriatic of wave deformation due to OWC plant were discussed. Also, some calculations for the floating barge were performed to confirm the validity of numerical solution of the method.
