A Study on the Actual Status of Professors in Department of Food and Nutrition at Junior College (전문대학 식품영양과의 교수실태에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carried out to propose the way to give substantial education for the students of Departments of Food and Nutrition in Junior College. Questionnaires were gathered from the professors of the Departments of Food and Nutrition in Junior Colleges. The results of this study could be summarized as follows. 1. The professors and assistant teachers appointed in Department of Food and Nutrition in Junior Colleges were insufficient in number showing the sufficiency proportion of 35.8% and 61% respectively. 2. Part time lecturers took charge of lectures on major subject up to 27%. 3. The academic backgrounds of all professors were above a master's degree, and the number of professors who were In the doctor's course and who had got doctor's degree amounted to 31.5% and 27.9% respectively. 4. The number of professors who had majored in the course of Food and Nutrition at university or at graduate school was the most and that of Food Engineering ranked the next. 5. The number of professors having careers in the fields of food and nutrition before the appointment to professor amounted to 32%. 6. The number of professors having domestic training managed by the Education Ministry amounted to 67.8%, but those having foreign training amounted to only 8.3%. 7. The number of domestic scientific journals subscribed by one professor was on an average 2.8, but that of foreign was only 0.8. 8. Each professor associated on an average 2.7 kinds of academic society, and published 3.6 pieces of thesis in the last three years. 9. The professors were comparatively satisfied with their present occupations, but they were dissatisfied with such points as deficiency of educational postulates, insufficient income, low level in intellectual faculties of their students and lack of social understanding.

  • Journal of the Korean Meteorological Society (JKMS) is confronted by a huge challenge. Following the long-term plan of the Korean Meteorological Society (KMS), the JKMS has entered a new era in 2006 in the sense that the all papers are published in English. Tremendous efforts are needed to accomplish the original goal of JKMS becoming an internationally recognized journal. A forum was held in this connection with the subject of the vitalization of the JKMS at the Spring Meeting of the Korean Meteorological Society held at Gwangju, 2006. A number of special topics were presented at the forum and active and vigorous discussions followed. Professor Dong-Kyou Lee presented strategies to increase the number of submission to the JKMS. Professor Seon Ki Park gave a presentation on how JKMS can grow into the SCI journal. The Editor-in-Chief of JKMS, professor H. Joe Kwon introduced the on-line review system of JKMS which had launched in 2006. This manuscript is presented on the basis of the presentations and the discussions at the forum for the purpose of finding the way in aiming the direction of the long-term goal of the KMS.

Size Distribution of Droplets Sprayed by an Orchard Sprayer (과수방제기 살포입자의 직경 분포특성)

  • Generated agri-chemical droplets by orchard sprayers are evaporated regenerated and transported along wind streams. The droplets are deposited to targets after changing their sizes, affecting the retention of droplets. An orchard sprayer, designed for spraying grapevines was studied on the spatial distribution of droplet size. The experimental variables were spray direction (0, 22.5, 45, 67.5 and 90˚), distance(2.5, 3.0 and 3.5 m) and fan speed (2,075 and 3,031 rpm). Droplet sizes were converted and analyzed from spray stains, sampled using water sensitive papers. The number median diameter (NMD) increased with an increase of the distance due to disappeared fine droplets (<50 ㎛): however, the volume median diameter (VMD) decreased due to shrunken large droplets (>100 ㎛). Fast fan speed delivered large droplets to 3.5 m, but the spatial distributions of NMD and VMD were not uniform. Slower fan speed decreased the possibility of evaporation and drift; therefore, plenty of droplets were maintained up to 3.0 m. The upward blasting distance was limited within 3 m, but the limit to the ground level was extended to 3.5 m. Concentrated wind and droplets to the ground level should be redistributed to upper canopy direction, leading more uniform deposits. High speed wind and system pressure should be avoided because of generating fine droplets, which would be disappeared and drifted away.

These designs have minimum number of experiments among the same average efficiency factor Optimal complete diallel cross designs are constructed by these designs. A list is prepared of all linked block designs in the class of group divisible designs and triangular designs enumerated by Clatworthy(1773).

  • The education of building services field at university is not enough, although the field has become to be very important in architectural engineering. This lack of education is one of the reason that the level of domestic building services field is lower than that in developed countries. Present conditions of related laws, fields of work after graduation and education at university in building services field have been studied, and education conditions have been investigated divided into four-year architectural engineering course and five-year architecture course. Though building services field has become more important at university education, the number of credits and professor of the field is still small than other fields of architectural engineering. More practical curriculums are necessary to meet the expectation of companies, and it will be one of the method to meet it that criteria of curriculum constitution is according to ABEEK(Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea) in more architectural engineering department.

An Analysis on the Factors Affecting University Startups (대학 창업 성과에 미치는 영향 요인)

  • This paper analyzes the factors which affect University professors and students on their startup activities, such as (a) University factors: their industrial cooperation organization and systems, their resources for startup support, their knowledge assets, and (b) socioeconomic characteristics in which Universities are located. We used the data and information from the University Information System and the National Statistical Office Publication to analyze 157 4-year Universities in Korea who uploaded their startup-related information on the system. Our analysis shows that Universities' systems, such as the term for Professors' leave of absence for startup activities, and their amount of knowledge assets affect the number of Professor startups significantly positively, while there is no significant effect on their performance, in terms of sales, from those factors, except for the amount of patents that the University has. In the meantime, the number of practical startup courses, the number of startup clubs, and the number of professor startups in the University affect the number of student startups, while the size of industrial cooperation body, the amount of knowledge asset, the area's socioeconomic characteristics didn't affect their performance. The result implies that we need to take different approaches to boost University professor startups and their student startups: better system and more knowledge for the former, more practical courses and programs for the latter. Further study is needed to get a more robust result because this analysis used only one year data, and personal trait data was not included in the analysis. A panel data analysis for several years is recommended for further research.

An Analysis on the Effects of University Capacity and Resources on the Professor Startups' Performance (대학의 역량과 내외부 자원이 교수창업 성과에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that affect professor startups and their performances in Universities in Korea. We included 5 categories of factors: University's size and reputation, University's technology commercialization staff number and startup deregulation, University's resources for research and technology commercialization, University's patents and professors' publication, and student startups. We analyzed 150 Universities, using Korean government's Academyinfo database, and additional data for University ranking and government's projects for University startups. Our analysis shows that Universities' fund amount for research and technology commercialization, Universities' amount of patents give a positive impact on Universities statistically significantly, while Universities' size or reputation does not. In addition, the amount of patents and startup projects funded by the government give a significantly positive impact on the annual sales of the professor startups. Furthermore, student startups are in a positive relationship with professor startups and their sales, showing a synergy effect between the two startup groups in Universities. The result implies that Universities and government need to focus on supporting patenting activities, providing technology commercialization funds, and collaboration activities between professors and students for their startup activities.

  • Expected number of visits in the steady state of the regenerative process is one of the most useful characteristics. The formula for this expected number of visits in the steady state of the regenerative process is presented in this paper. Because this formula is for the general model, it can be applied to many special systems including 2-unit redundant system. An example for this formula is also presented.

  • For the purpose of profound comprehension of the Current education of Oriental medical classics in Korea, I investigated the results of direct survey of the Current education of Oriental medical classics from each professor, and came to following conclusions. 1. The education of Oriental medical classics mainly lasts for 2 years. Students have average 6.59 hours of lecture every week. The rate of full service professor reaches 74.4%. But the department of Oriental medical classics in every college takes charge of many subjects which are related to Oriental medical classics, so the appointment of large number of full service professor is essential for the improvement of educational environment of Oriental medical classics. 2. After the publishing of the common textbook of Oriental medical classics, it gradually became the main textbook. But it is necessary that we should complement the textbook and it is also necessary that we should develop another textbook for Nangyeong(難經). 3. Most professors emphasize on the cultivation of the ability which enables Oriental medical thought through precise comprehension of original text. By the way, for the purpose of motivation of studying Oriental medical classics, it is necessary to develop a lecture which is related to clinical medicine. From the same context it is also necessary to read clinical original text such as Dongui-bogam(東醫寶鑑) and Uihakimmun(醫學入門) in class.
