  • In this study, we considered the method evaluation the flexibility of joint area including member with circular section. We regarded the flexibility of joint area as translational and rotational springs for the purpose of expressing local deformation. We verified this method by the use of normal mode analysis. We also calculated this joint area occurring in penetration so as to apply this method to other cases. Compare with the shell element model. we can the considerably approximate values.

  • Taking the normal mode transmission direction perpendicular to the substrate, an alternative equivalent network formulation is developed for the analysis of optical strip waveguides. All kinds of mode couplings between the normal modes are included in this formulation. Compared to the previous equivalent network formulations, the calculations are simplified especially when the thickness of the uniform slab is thin enough such that no well guided modes are available along the uniform slab waveguide.

  • The component mode synthesis method allows the elastic deformation of each component in the flexible multibody system by a sum of modes and modal coordinates. This paper focuses on the selection of boundary conditions and deformation modes for redundantly constrained flexible components in mechanical system dynamics. The result of a flexible body dynamic analysis with only normal modes is used to identify proper boundary conditions of a static modes and a desired set of static modes which will be used in the final model. A simple four bar mechanism is used to explain the procedure and a space satellite with solar panels is analyzed using the proposed method.

  • Recently, problems with excessive vibration of the radar masts of large bulk carriers and crude oil tankers have frequently been reported. This paper explores a design method to avoid the resonance of a radar mast installed on a large ship using various design of experiment (DOE) methods. A local vibration test was performed during an actual sea trial to determine the excitation sources of the vibration related to the resonant frequency of the radar mast. DOE methods such as the orthogonal array (OA) and Latin hypercube design (LHD) methods were used to analyze the Pareto effects on the radar mast vibration. In these DOE methods, the main vibration performances such as the natural frequency and weight of the radar mast were set as responses, while the shape and thickness of the main structural members of the radar mast were set as design factors. From the DOE-based Pareto effect results, we selected the significant structural members with the greatest influence on the vibration characteristics of the radar mast. Full factorial design (FFD) was applied to verify the Pareto effect results of the OA and LHD methods. The design of the main structural members of the radar mast to avoid resonance was reviewed, and a normal mode analysis was performed for each design using the finite element method. Based on the results of this normal mode analysis, we selected a design case that could avoid the resonance from the major excitation sources. In addition, a modal test was performed on the determined design to verify the normal mode analysis results.

  • Normal modes of solids HF, HCl and polyethylene having the exciting spectrometric phenomena have been evaluated by taking the lowest temperature phase of these species in the solid. The solids HF and HCl have the same space group as C$_{2}{\nu}$, and polyethylene has a space group with D$_{2h}$. The normal modes were obtained by the valence force field with modified force constants and a quantitative description of the normal mode is adjusted by the potential energy distribution (PED). From the PED, the most fittable force constants are also obtained. We have intended to calculate the normal modes by using the smallest size of the model and the simple computational process. To remove the edge effects being occurred in constructing the single cluster model, different from the boundary condition being generally used up to now, the idea of pseudolattice method being successfully applied to MO calculations of solid was extended to normal mode analysis in order to give the same environment for all moecules in a chosen cluster. By using the above valence force field and boundary condition, we obtain the assigned frequencies and compare those results with the results obtained by others.

  • The dual-phase lag heat transfer model is employed to study the problem of isotropic generalized thermoelastic medium with internal heat source. The normal mode analysis is used to obtain the exact expressions for displacement components, force stress and temperature distribution. The variations of the considered variables through the horizontal distance are illustrated graphically. The results are discussed and depicted graphically.

  • 800kV GIS(Gas Insulated Switchgear) was first developed by Hyosung Corporation in Korea at Dec. 1998 and is going to be installed first in the Dangjin Thermal Plant. We intoned to verify the structural safety of 800kV GIS under seismic load. The modal analysis of 800kV GIS has been carried out to obtain the natural frequency and mode shape. PATRAN was used for mode)ing exactly 800kV GIS Geometry. 800kV GIS FE(Finite Element) model was constructed of shell elements for the enclosures and beam elements for the conductors and the support insulators NASTRAN was used for analyzing the normal modes of 800kV GIS FE model.

  • In general, the dynamic analysis with FEM(Finite Element Method) of large structures requires large computer memory space and long computational time. For the purpose of economical dynamic analysis of large structures, most of engineers want to use an efficient solution algorithm. This paper reports the modified CMS(Component Mode Synthesis) method which uses more efficient algorithm than the classical CMS method. In this paper, it is shown that Ritz vector sets can play the role of normal mode vector sets of substurctures in the CMS algorithm. The modified CMS method has good convergence performance compared with that of the classical CMS method.

  • Aircraft flutter analysis model consists of dynamic FE model and aerodynamic model. Dynamic FE model is composed of stiffness and mass model, and is used for the prediction of normal mode characteristics of the structure. Since aircraft flutter analysis is normally performed in the modal domain, dynamic FE model shall be constructed to describe the modal characteristics of the structure with sufficient accuracy. In this study, dynamic FE modeling method was described using full airframe FE model and structural and system weight data for aircraft flutter analysis. In addition, full airframe dynamic FE model for composite small aircraft was constituted for normal mode and flutter analysis, and the mass modeling results were compared with the target weight data to validate the mass modeling method proposed. Finally, full airframe flutter analysis of composite small aircraft was performed with the dynamic FE model and the aerodynamic model composed.

  • In this paper, there is analyzed the disturbances to impact on COMS attitude and the attitude error using the received telemetries in KARI ground station during normal mode of COMS. COMS was launched successfully at Kourou, French Guiana on the 26th of June, 2010. Up to now after IOT(in-orbit test), COMS is performing well the main mission to measure meteorology and ocean during about half and one year. The disturbances to impact on COMS attitude are mostly by the Sun, by the motion of payload mirror and by the spike happened during operation of earth sensor mirror and wheel. The analysis result on the other cases happened rarely during the nominal operation, is summarized.
