Kim et al.(I999) presented a non-linear finite element formulation of spatial ocean cables using multiple noded cable elements. The initial equilibrium state of ocean cables subjected to self-weights, support motions, and current forces was determined using the load incremental method and free vibration analysis were performed considering added mass, In this paper, the methods to generate regular and irregular waves and calculate wave forces due to these waves are discussed and challenging example problems are presented in order to investigate dynamic non-linear behaviors of ocean cables subjected to wave loadings.
The anchor is laid on the seabed, and the main engine is working against incident environmental loads in a typhoon. As the main engine is broken Mum in the storm, the anchor chain is cut and the vessel drifts. Although a ship is moored by two-point mooring lines to maintain her position, it has crashed into a rock because of a typhoon, resulting in a possible accidental oil spillage. In this paper, we studied maintenance of a ship's position, which is analyzed based on the slow motion maneuvering equations considering wave, current, and wind. To estimate wave loads, the direct integration method is employed. The current forces are calculated, using MMG (Mathematical Modeling Group). Th two-point mooring forces are quasi-statistically evaluated, using the catenary equation. Th coefficients of wind forces are modeled from Isherwood's empirical data, and the variation of wind speed is estimated by wind spectrum. The nonlinear motions of a two-point moored ship are simulated, considering wave, current, and wind load, in specific domain of time.

A three-dimensional time-domain calculation method is of crucial importance in prediction of the motions and wave loads of a ship advancing in a severe irregular sea. The exact solution of the free surface wave-ship interaction problem is very complicated because of the essentially nonlinear boundary conditions. In this paper, an approximate body nonlinear approach based on the three-dimensional time-domain forward-speed free-surface Green function has been presented. The Froude-Krylov force and the hydrostatic restoring force are calculated over the instantaneous wetted surface of the ship while the forces due to the radiation and scattering potentials over the mean wetted surface. The time-domain radiation and scattering potentials have been obtained from a time invariant kernel of integral equations for the potentials which are discretized according to the second-order boundary element method (Hong and Hong 2008). The diffraction impulse-response functions of the Wigley seakeeping model advancing in transient head waves at various Froude numbers have been presented. A simulation of coupled heave-pitch motion of a long rectangular barge advancing in regular head waves of large amplitude has been carried out. Comparisons between the linear and the approximate body nonlinear numerical results of motions and wave loads of the barge at a nonzero Froude number have been made.

This study is concerned with the nonlinear dynamic behaviors of guyed towers for wave loadings. In order to analyze the nonlinear responses of guyed towers efficiently, the main tower is modeled as an equivalent stick, the guyline system is idealized as a spring with nonlinear stiffness in the horizontal direction. and the pile foundation system is represented as a linear spring in the rotational direction. The wave forces on the main tower are evaluated by using Morison's equation. In order to consider adequately the nonlinearities of the guying system and drag forces due to fluid viscosity. the analyses are performed in the time domain. The mode superposition method is adopted for solving the nonlinear equation of motion efficiently. which is based on the Newmark integration scheme. Numerical analyses are carried out to investigate the sensitivity of two major design parameters for guyed towers. i.e., the clump weight conditions and the base renditions of the tower.
The potential of using the roof water tanks as a mitigation measure to minimize the required separation gap and induced pounding forces due to collisions is investigated. The investigation is carried out using nonlinear dynamic analysis for two adjacent 3-story buildings with different dynamic characteristics under two real earthquake motions. For such analysis, nonlinear viscoelastic model is used to simulate forces due to impact. The sloshing force due to water movement is modelled in terms of width of the water tank and the instantaneous wave heights at the end wall. The effect of roof water tanks on the story's responses, separation gap, and magnitude and number of induced pounding forces are investigated. The influence of structural stiffness and storey mass are investigated as well. It is found that pounding causes instantaneous acceleration pulses in the colliding buildings, but the existence of roof water tanks eliminates such acceleration pulses. At the same time the water tanks effectively reduce the number of collisions as well as the magnitude of the induced impact forces. Moreover, buildings without constructed water tanks require wider separation gap to prevent pounding as compared to those with water tanks attached to top floor under seismic excitations.
Ship stability prediction is very complex in reality. In this paper, risk based approach is applied to predict the probability of a certified ship, which is effected by the forces of sea especially the wave loading. Safety assessment and risk analysis process are also applied for the probabilistic prediction of ship stability. The survival probability of ships encountering with different waves at sea is calculated by the existed statistics data and risk based models. Finally, ship capsizing probability is calculated according to single degree of freedom(SDF) rolling differential equation and basin erosion theory of nonlinear dynamics. Calculation results show that the survival probabilities of ship excited by the forces of the seas, especially in the beam seas status, can be predicted by the risk based method.

Dynamic analysis of guyed tower is presented in this paper. The scope of the study is twofold. The one is to determine an efficient analysis method to include the nonlinearity of the mooring system and the nonlinear hydrodynamic wave forces. The other is to investigate the sensitivity of two major design parameters, that is the stiffness of mooring system and the fixity condition of the tower at mud line. Time history analysis method utilizing mode superposition is mainly considered. However several other methods are also used for the purpose of comparison. Analyses are carried out using the Lena Guyed Tower, which is the first structure of this kind, as a standard structure.

This paper presents an experimental investigation of asymmetric impact effects on hydroelastic responses. A 1:64 scaled segmented ship model with U-shape open cross-section backbone was newly designed to meet elastic similarity conditions of vertical, horizontal and torsional stiffness simultaneously. Different wave heading angles and wavelengths were adopted in regular wave test. In head wave condition, parametric rolling phenomena happened along with asymmetric slamming forces, the relationship between them was disclosed at first time. The impact forces on starboard and port sides showed alternating asymmetric periodic changes. In oblique wave condition, nonlinear springing and whipping responses were found. Since slamming phenomena occurred, high-frequency bending moments became an important part in total bending moments and whipping responses were found in small wavelength. The wavelength and head angle are varied to elucidate the relationship of springing/whipping loads and asymmetric impact. The distributions of peaks of horizontal and torsional loads show highly asymmetric property.

Two-dimensional large-amplitude motions in regular harmonic wave are treated in time domain, by satisfying the exact body boundary condition and the linear free surface condition. For the present numerical calculation, the method of free-surface spectral representation with simple source distribution on the instantaneous body surface has been extended to include the effect of the incident wave. Calculations of the wave exciting force are performed for a submerged circular cylinder fixed or oscillating with large amplitude. Especially, nonlinear effects on the time-mean forces are studied in detail. It is shown that relative motion between the body and the fluid particle gives a significant effect on the lift and drift forces. Also, large-amplitude motion of a submerged circular cylinder and that of a floating Lewis-form cylinder are directly simulated in time domain. In the calculation results, some nonlinear effects are shown.
In the present study, the hydrodynamic force affected by a lapping wave induced by supplied falling water acting on the vertical wall of a portable water storage tank was analyzed using a nonlinear Peregrine model. The lapping wave's maximum run-up amplitudes and the hydrodynamic forces in the wall of the tank measured by linear and nonlinear Peregrine's models were compared numerically. As a result, it was concluded that the linear model may underestimate the effects on the vertical wall; therefore, it is more appropriate to use a nonlinear Peregrine model. Furthermore, this result can contribute to the stable structural designs of portable water storage tanks.
