  • In this research, an approximate analytical solution has been presented for nonlinear problems of vibratory systems in mechanical engineering. The new method is called Variational Approach (VA) which is applied in two different high nonlinear cases. It has been shown that the presented approach leads us to an accurate approximate analytical solution. The results of variational approach are compared with numerical solutions. The full procedure of the numerical solution is also presented. The results are shown that the variatioanl approach can be an efficient and practical mathematical tool in field of nonlinear vibration.

  • In this study, three approximate analytical methods have been proposed to prepare an accurate analytical solution for nonlinear oscillators with fractional potential. The basic idea of the approaches and their applications to nonlinear discontinuous equations have been completely presented and discussed. Some patterns are also presented to show the accuracy of the methods. Comparisons between Energy Balance Method (EBM), Variational Iteration Method (VIM) and Hamiltonian Approach (HA) shows that the proposed approaches are very close together and could be easily extend to conservative nonlinear vibrations.

  • In this paper, a nonlinear $H_2/H_\infty/LTR$ control for the flexible inverted pendulum of a parallel type with Coulomb friction is presented. The dynamic equation for this system is derived by the Hamilton's principle and assumed-mode method. This hard nonlinear system can be modeled by a the quasi-linear state space model using the REF method. It is shown that the $H_2/H_\infty$ control can be applied to the nonlinear controller design of the system having Coulomb frictions if the proper LTR conditions are satisfied. In order to present the usefulness of the suggested control method, the nonlinear $H_2/H_\infty/LTR$ controller is designed to control the Position of the end point of the flexible inverted pendulum that has Coulomb frictions present in actuator parts. The results are given via computer simulations.

  • OFDM/FH communication system Is widely used in the wireless communication for the large capacity and high-speed data transmission. However, phase noise and PAPR (peak-to-average power ratio) are the serious problems causing performance impairment. In this paper, PLL (phase locked loop) frequency synthesizer with high switching speed is used for the phase noise model. SSPA and TWTA are considered for the nonlinear HPA model. Under these conditions and by approximating $e^{j{\phi}[m]}$ into $1 + j{\phi}[m]-\frac{1}{2}{\phi}^2[m]$ for the phase noise nonlinear approximation, SINR (signal-to-interference-noise-ratio) with nonlinear HPA and phase noise is derived in the OFDM/FH system. The bit error probabilities (BER) are found by computer simulation method and semi-analytical method. The simulation results closely match with the semi-analytical results.

  • The present paper investigates the combination resonance behavior of imperfect spiral stiffened functionally graded (SSFG) cylindrical shells with internal and external functionally graded stiffeners under two-term large amplitude excitations. The structure is embedded within a generalized nonlinear viscoelastic foundation, which is composed of a two-parameter Winkler-Pasternak foundation augmented by a Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic model with a nonlinear cubic stiffness, to account for the vibration hardening/softening phenomena and damping considerations. With regard to classical plate theory of shells, von-Kármán equation and Hook law, the relations of stress-strain are derived for shell and stiffeners. The spiral stiffeners of the cylindrical shell are modeled according to the smeared stiffener technique. According to the Galerkin method, the discretized motion equation is obtained. The combination resonance is obtained by using the multiple scales method. Finally, the influences of the stiffeners angles, foundation type, the nonlinear elastic foundation coefficients, material distribution, and excitation amplitude on the system resonances are investigated comprehensively.

  • In this paper, a novel analytical method, Max-Min Approach (MMA), has been presented and applied to consider the nonlinear vibration of dry cask storage systems. The nonlinear governing equation of the structure has been developed using the shell theory. The MMA results are compared with numerical solutions derived by Runge-Kutta's Method (RKM). The results indicate a satisfying agreement between MMA and numerical solutions. Parametric studies have been conducted on the nonlinear frequency of dry casks. The phase-plan of the problem is also presented and discussed. The proposed approach can potentially ca be extended to highly nonlinear problems.

  • In this paper, we propose nonlinear optimization method for feature matching from multiple view image. Typical solution of feature matching is by solving linear equation. However this solution has large error due to nonlinearity of image formation model. If typical nonlinear optimization method is used, complexity grows exponentially over the number of features. To make complexity lower, we use sparse Levenberg-Marquardt nonlinear optimization for matching of features over multiple view image.

  • A switching power stage is a very nonlinear system because it has two or more operation modes in one switching cycle. To model a switching power stage, the state space averaging method has been developed. Though it allows a unified treatment of a large variety of switching power stages, the model it yields is always very nonlinear. So, it is required to linearize the averaged model. But it is well known that a controller for a nonlinear plant designed by the linearization frequently fails in showing satisfactory control performance. Hence it is very natural to try to design a nonlinear controller for a switching power stage. In design of a switching power system, nonlinear control approaches such as adaptive control and fuzzy control have been widely studied so far. In this research, a recently developed control method, time delay control is briefly studied and a design example for a ZVS PWM half bridge converter is given. The performance of the time delay controller is compared to its conventional counterpart, PI controller by computer simulations.

  • In this paper, a nonlinear anisotropic filtering method without the loss of important information happened due to the repeated filtering in magnetic resonance images is proposed. First of all original images are divided into four regions, e.g., SPR(Strong Plain Region), EPR(Easy Plain Region), SER(Strong Edge Region), and EER(Easy Edge Region). An optimal template among multiple templates is selected, then the nonlinear anisotropic filtering based on the template is applied in pixel by pixel basis. In the proposed algorithm, filtering strength of EER containing important information is adjusted very weak and filtering strength for remaining regions is also adjusted according to the degree of the importance. In spite of repeated filtering, resulting images by the proposed method could still preserve anatomy information of original images without any degradation. Compared to the existing nonlinear anisotropic filtering, the proposed filtering method with multiple templates provides higher reliability for filtered images.

  • In this paper, a new method of conrolling chaotic nonlinear systems is proposed. Firstly, the dynamics of a chaotic nonlinear system is separated into a linear part and a nonlinear part. Secondly, the nonlinear part is approximated using a radial basis function network (RBFN) and canceled from the controlled system. Then, the resulting system has only the linear part added with very weak nonlinearity. Finally, a simple linear state feedback control law is designed for the linear part. In the meanwhile, a theorem justifying this concept is presented and proved. Comparing with the feedback linearization, the proposed method can be applied regardless of the functional form of the controlled dynamics. The proposed method is applied by simulation to the Duffing system and the Lorenz system and satisfactory results are obtained.
