This paper established the dynamic model of a flexible Timoshenko beam capable of geometrical nonlinearities subject to large overall motions by using the finite element method. Equations of motion are derived by using Hamilton principle and are formulated in terms of finite elements in which the nonlinear constraint equations are adjoined to the system using Lagrange multipliers. The Newmark direct integration method and the Newton-Raphson iteration are employed here for the numerical study which is to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed formulation.

In this paper a new hull-panel generation algorithm named 'Panel Cutting Method' was developed to solve the flow phenomena around a ship advancing on the free surface with a constant speed. In this algorithm the non-linearity of the free surface boundary conditions was taken into account using the iterative method and the raised panel was used at each iteration step. Numerical calculations were performed to investigate the validity of the developed algorithm using the series $60(C_B=0.60)$ hull The wave resistance coefficients, the wave patterns and the wave heights were compared between the computed and the experimental results at Fn=0.25 and 0.316. The comparison showed good agreement between computation and experiment.

A real-time hybrid test of a 3 story-3 bay reinforced concrete frame which is divided into numerical and physical substructure models under uniaxial earthquake excitation was run using a fixed iteration implicit HHT time integration method. The first story inner non-ductile column was selected as the physical substructure model, and uniaxial earthquake excitation was applied to the numerical model until the specimen failed due to severe damage. A finite-element analysis program, Mercury, was newly developed and optimized for a real-time hybrid test. The drift ratio based on the top horizontal displacement of the physical substructure model was compared with the result of a numerical simulation by OpenSees and the result of a shaking table test. The experiment in this paper is one of the most complex real-time hybrid tests, and the description of the hardware, algorithm and models is presented in detail. If there is an improvement in the numerical model, the evaluation of the tangent stiffness matrix of the physical substructure model in the finite element analysis program and better software to reduce the computational time of the element state determination for the force-based beam-column element, then the comparison with the results of the real-time hybrid test and the shaking table test deserves to make a recommendation. In addition, for the goal of a "Numerical simulation of the complex structures under dynamic loading", the real time hybrid test has enough merit as an alternative to dynamic experiments of large and complex structures.
A constitutive model on oorthotropic thermo-elasto-viscoplasticity for fiber-reinforced composite materials Is illustrated, and their thermomechanical responses are predicted with the fully-coupled finite element formulation. The unmixing-mixing scheme can be adopted with the multipartite matrix method as the constitutive model. Basic assumptions based upon the composite micromechanics are postulated, and the strain components of thermal expansion due to temperature change are included In the formulation. Also. more than two sets of mechanical variables, which represent the deformation states of multipartite matrix can be introduced arbitrarily. In particular, the unmixing-mixing scheme can be used with any well-known isotropic viscoplastic theory of the matrix material. The scheme unnecessitates the complex processes for developing an orthotropic viscoplastic theory. The governing equations based on fully-coupled thermomechanics are derived with constitutive arrangement by the unmixing-mixing concept. By considering some auxiliary conditions, the Initial-boundary value problem Is completely set up. As a tool of numerical analyses, the finite element method Is used with isoparametric Interpolation fer the displacement and the temperature fields. The equation of mutton and the energy conservation equation are spatially discretized, and then the time marching techniques such as the Newmark method and the Crank-Nicolson technique are applied. To solve the ultimate nonlinear simultaneous equations, a successive iteration algorithm is constructed with subincrementing technique. As a numerical study, a series of analyses are performed with the main focus on the thermomechanical coupling effect in composite materials. The progress of viscoplastic deformation, the stress-strain relation, and the temperature History are careful1y examined when composite laminates are subjected to repeated cyclic loading.

The postbuckling compressive strengths of $[0/90/\pm\theta]_s$ composite laminated cylindrical panels with various fiber angles and width-to-length ratios are characterized by the nonlinear finite element method. For the iteration and load-increment along the postbuckling equilibrium path a modified arc-length method in which the effect of failure can be considered is introduced. In the progressive failure analysis the maximum stress criterion and complete unloading model are used. Present finite element results show good agreement with experiments for $[0_3/90]_s$ cylindrical panel and $[0/\pm45/90/]_s$ plate. The postbuckling compressive strength of $[0/90/\pm\theta]_s$ composite laminated cylindrical panel is independent of the initial buckling stress but high in the panel with large value of the bending stiffness in axial direction. In the several cylindrical panels, it is observed that the prebuckling compressive failures occur and result into the collapse before the buckling.
In the present study, the elasto-plastic analysis of prismatic plate structures subjected to pure bending is carried out using the finite strip method. The end cross-sections of the structure are assumed to remain plane during deformation, and the compatibility along corner lines is ensured by choosing proper displacement functions. The effects of both the initial geometrical imperfections and residual stresses due to fabrication are included in the combined geometrically and materially nonlinear simulation. The von-Mises yield criterion and the Prandtl-Reuss flow theory of plasticity are applied in modelling the elasto-plastic behavior of material. Newton-Raphson iterations are carried out as the rotation of the end cross sections of the structure is increased step by step. The parameter representing the overall axial strain of structure is adjusted constantly during the iteration process in order to eliminate the resulting overall axial force on any cross-section of the structure in correspondence with the assumption of zero axial force in pure bending. Several numerical examples are presented to validate the present method and to investigate the effects of some material and geometrical parameters.

We present a new dual sequential approximate optimization (SAO) algorithm called SD-TDQAO (sequential dual two-point diagonal quadratic approximate optimization). This algorithm solves engineering optimization problems with a nonlinear objective and nonlinear inequality constraints. The two-point diagonal quadratic approximation (TDQA) was originally non-convex and inseparable quadratic approximation in the primal design variable space. To use the dual method, SD-TDQAO uses diagonal quadratic explicit separable approximation; this can easily ensure convexity and separability. An important feature is that the second-derivative terms of the quadratic approximation are approximated by TDQA, which uses only information on the function and the derivative values at two consecutive iteration points. The algorithm will be illustrated using mathematical and topological test problems, and its performance will be compared with that of the MMA algorithm.
In this study, for a linear tubular membrane with constant diameter the mass balance considering permeate velocity of the each unit length was established. On this basis, mathematical modelling of flows in a pipe was solved using nonlinear second order differential equations as well as steady-state equation. Since this equation is nonlinear, Gauss-Seidel method or another iteration method were used to solve the differential equations. Simulation algorithm for numerical solutions was presented. Also since the permeate flow is varied as operating condition, the solution of equations at each conditions using numerical integrations such as Simpson's rules was used. In order to analyze and compare simulation results, we have performed experiments using a hollow fiber membrane with almost identical tubular membrane. Comparison of theoretical and experimental results, pressure drop, flow rate, and permeate flow in a hollow fiber membrane, were illustrated.

Recently, deep learning that is the most popular and effective class of machine learning algorithms is widely applied to various industrial areas. A number of research on various topics about structural engineering was performed by using artificial neural networks, such as structural design optimization, vibration control and system identification etc. When nonlinear semi-active structural control devices are applied to building structure, a lot of computational effort is required to predict dynamic structural responses of finite element method (FEM) model for development of control algorithm. To solve this problem, an artificial neural network model was developed in this study. Among various deep learning algorithms, a recurrent neural network (RNN) was used to make the time history response prediction model. An RNN can retain state from one iteration to the next by using its own output as input for the next step. An eleven-story building structure with semi-active tuned mass damper (TMD) was used as an example structure. The semi-active TMD was composed of magnetorheological damper. Five historical earthquakes and five artificial ground motions were used as ground excitations for training of an RNN model. Another artificial ground motion that was not used for training was used for verification of the developed RNN model. Parametric studies on various hyper-parameters including number of hidden layers, sequence length, number of LSTM cells, etc. After appropriate training iteration of the RNN model with proper hyper-parameters, the RNN model for prediction of seismic responses of the building structure with semi-active TMD was developed. The developed RNN model can effectively provide very accurate seismic responses compared to the FEM model.

Digital Pre-Distortion (DPD) is a linearization technique for nonlinear power amplifiers (PAs) by implementing inverse function of the PA at baseband digital stage. To obtain proper DPD parameters, a feedback path is required to convert the PA output to a baseband signal, and a memory is also needed to store the feedback signals. DPD parameters are usually found by an adaptive algorithm from the feedback samples. However, for the adaptive algorithm to converge to a reliable solution, long feedback samples are required, which increases convergence time and hardware complexity. In this paper, we propose a DPD technique that requires relatively short feedback samples. From the observation that the convergence time of the adaptive algorithm highly depends on the initial condition, this paper iteratively utilizes the feedback samples while keeping and using the converged DPD parameters at the former iteration as the initial condition at the current iteration. Computer simulation results show that the proposed method performs better than the conventional technique while the former requires much shorter feedback samples than the latter.
