One of the most fundamental functions required for an intelligent agent is to estimate its current position based upon uncertain sensor data. In this paper, we explain the implementation of a robot localization system using Particle filters, which are the most effective one of the probabilistic localization methods, and then present the result of experiments for evaluating the performance of our system. Through conducting experiments to compare the effect of the noise-free model with that of the noisy state transition model considering inherent errors of robot actions, we show that it can help improve the performance of the Particle filter localization to apply a state transition model closely approximating the uncertainty of real robot actions.
Recently, the multi-model based speech recognizer has been used quite successfully for noisy speech recognition. For the selection of the reference HMM (hidden Markov model) which best matches the noise type and SNR (signal to noise ratio) of the input testing speech, the estimation of the SNR value using the VAD (voice activity detection) algorithm and the classification of the noise type based on the GMM (Gaussian mixture model) have been done separately in the multi-model framework. As the SNR estimation process is vulnerable to errors, we propose an efficient method which can classify simultaneously the SNR values and noise types. The KL (Kullback-Leibler) distance between the single Gaussian distributions for the noise signal during the training and testing is utilized for the classification. The recognition experiments have been done on the Aurora 2 database showing the usefulness of the model compensation method in the multi-model based speech recognizer. We could also see that further performance improvement was achievable by combining the probability density function of the MCT (multi-condition training) with that of the reference HMM compensated by the D-JA (data-driven Jacobian adaptation) in the multi-model based speech recognizer.

In this paper, we propose an Sound Event Detection (SED) model using self-training based on a noisy student model. The proposed SED model consists of two stages. In the first stage, a mean-teacher model based on an Residual Convolutional Recurrent Neural Network (RCRNN) is constructed to provide target labels regarding weakly labeled or unlabeled data. In the second stage, a self-training-based noisy student model is constructed by applying different noise types. That is, feature noises, such as time-frequency shift, mixup, SpecAugment, and dropout-based model noise are used here. In addition, a semi-supervised loss function is applied to train the noisy student model, which acts as label noise injection. The performance of the proposed SED model is evaluated on the validation set of the Detection and Classification of Acoustic Scenes and Events (DCASE) 2020 Challenge Task 4. The experiments show that the single model and ensemble model of the proposed SED based on the noisy student model improve F1-score by 4.6 % and 3.4 % compared to the top-ranked model in DCASE 2020 challenge Task 4, respectively.
In recent years, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have been successfully implemented in different tasks of computer vision. Since CNN models are the representatives of supervised learning algorithms, they demand large amount of data in order to train the classifiers. Thus, obtaining data with correct labels is imperative to attain the state-of-the-art performance of the CNN models. However, labelling datasets is quite tedious and expensive process, therefore real-life datasets often exhibit incorrect labels. Although the issue of poorly labelled datasets has been studied before, we have noticed that the methods are very complex and hard to reproduce. Therefore, in this research work, we propose Deep CleanNet - a considerably simple system that achieves competitive results when compared to the existing methods. We use K-means clustering algorithm for selecting data with correct labels and train the new dataset using a deep CNN model. The technique achieves competitive results in both training and validation stages. We conducted experiments using MNIST database of handwritten digits with 50% corrupted labels and achieved up to 10 and 20% increase in training and validation sets accuracy scores, respectively.
A method is proposed to detect structural damages in the presence of damping using noisy data. This method uses Frequency Response Function (FRF) and Mode-Shapes as the input parameters for a system of Couple Sparse Coding (CSC) to study the healthy state of the structure. To obtain appropriate patterns of FRF for CSC training, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) technique is adopted to reduce the full-size FRF to overcome over-fitting and convergence problems in machine-learning training. To verify the proposed method, a numerical two-story frame structure is employed. A system of individual CSCs is trained with FRFs and mode-shapes, and then termed ensemble to detect the health condition of the structure. The results demonstrate that the proposed method is accurate in damage identification even in presence of up to 20% noisy data and 5% unconsidered damping ratio. Furthermore, it can be concluded that CSC ensemble is highly efficient to detect the location and the severity of damages in comparison to the individual CSC trained only with FRF data.
A multichannel smart sound sensor capable to detect and identify sound events in noisy conditions is presented in this paper. Sound information extraction is a complex task and the main difficulty consists is the extraction of highlevel information from an one-dimensional signal. The input of smart sound sensor is composed of data collected by 5 microphones and its output data is sent through a network. For a real time working purpose, the sound analysis is divided in three steps: sound event detection for each sound channel, fusion between simultaneously events and sound identification. The event detection module find impulsive signals in the noise and extracts them from the signal flow. Our smart sensor must be capable to identify impulsive signals but also speech presence too, in a noisy environment. The classification module is launched in a parallel task on the channel chosen by data fusion process. It looks to identify the event sound between seven predefined sound classes and uses a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) method. Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients are used in combination with new ones like zero crossing rate, centroid and roll-off point. This smart sound sensor is a part of a medical telemonitoring project with the aim of detecting serious accidents.
When we apply binary classification to multi-class classification for text categorization, we use the One-Against-All method generally, However, this One-Against-All method has a problem. That is, documents of a negative set are not labeled by human. Thus, they can include many noisy documents in the training data. In this paper, we propose that the Sliding Window technique and the EM algorithm are applied to binary text classification for solving this problem. We here improve binary text classification through extracting noise documents from the training data by the Sliding Window technique and re-assigning categories of these documents using the EM algorithm.
Noise band removal is a crucial step before spectral matching since the noise bands can distort the typical shape of spectral reflectance, leading to degradation on the matching results. This paper proposes a statistical noise band removal method for hyperspectral data using the correlation coefficient between two bands. The correlation coefficient measures the strength and direction of a linear relationship between two random variables. Considering each band of the hyperspectral data as a random variable, the correlation between two signal bands is high; existence of a noisy band will produce a low correlation due to ill-correlativeness and undirected ness. The unsupervised k-nearest neighbor clustering method is implemented in accordance with three well-accepted spectral matching measures, namely ED, SAM and SID in order to evaluate the validation of the proposed method. This paper also proposes a hierarchical scheme of combining those measures. Finally, a separability assessment based on the between-class and the within-class scatter matrices is followed to evaluate the applicability of the proposed noise band removal method. Also, the paper brings out a comparison for spectral matching measures. The experimental results conducted on a 228-band hyperspectral data show that while the SAM measure is rather resistant, the performance of SID measure is more sensitive to noise.

We propose a rapid adaptive learning framework for streaming object detection, called EER-ASSL. The method combines the expected error reduction (EER) dependent rollback learning and the active semi-supervised learning (ASSL) for a rapid adaptive CNN detector. Most CNN object detectors are built on the assumption of static data distribution. However, images are often noisy and biased, and the data distribution is imbalanced in a real world environment. The proposed method consists of collaborative sampling and EER-ASSL. The EER-ASSL utilizes the active learning (AL) and rollback based semi-supervised learning (SSL). The AL allows us to select more informative and representative samples measuring uncertainty and diversity. The SSL divides the selected streaming image samples into the bins and each bin repeatedly transfers the discriminative knowledge of the EER and CNN models to the next bin until convergence and incorporation with the EER rollback learning algorithm is achieved. The EER models provide a rapid short-term myopic adaptation and the CNN models an incremental long-term performance improvement. EER-ASSL can overcome noisy and biased labels in varying data distribution. Extensive experiments shows that EER-ASSL obtained 70.9 mAP compared to state-of-the-art technology such as Faster RCNN, SSD300, and YOLOv2.
Recently, speech recognition models have been advancing, accompanied by the development of various speech processing technologies to obtain high-quality data. In the defense sector, efforts are being made to integrate technologies that effectively remove noise from speech data in noisy battlefield situations and enable efficient speech recognition. This paper proposes a method for effective speech recognition in the midst of diverse noise in a battlefield scenario, allowing commanders to convey orders. The proposed method involves noise removal from noisy speech followed by text conversion using OpenAI's Whisper model. Experimental results show that the proposed method reduces the Character Error Rate (CER) by 6.17% compared to the existing method that does not remove noise. Additionally, potential applications of the proposed method in the defense are discussed.
