Web GIS, based on the latest web-technology, has evolved to provide efficient and accurate spatial information to users. Furthermore, Web GIS Server has improved the performance constantly to respond user web requests and to offer spatial information service. This research aims to create a designed and implemented Web GIS Server that is named as Nodemap which uses the emergent technology, Node.js, which has been issued for an event-oriented, non-blocking I/O model framework for coding JavaScript on the server development. Basically, NodeMap is Web GIS Server that supports OGC implementation specification. It is designed to process GIS data by using DBMS, which supports spatial index and standard spatial query function. And NodeMap uses Node-Canvas module supported HTML5 canvas to render spatial information on tile map. Lastly, NodeMap uses Express module based connect module framework. NodaMap performance demonstration confirmed a possibility of applying Node.js as a (next/future) Web GIS Server development technology through the benchmarking. Having completed its quality test of NodeMap, this study has shown the compatibility and potential for Node.js as a Web GIS server development technology, and has shown the bright future of internet GIS service.
This study proposes a model for measuring the connectivity of nodes in road networks. The connectivity index between two nodes is characterized by the number of routes, degree of circuitousness, design speed, and route capacity between the nodes. The connectivity index of a node is then defined as the weighted average of the connectivity indexes between the node and other nodes under consideration. The weighting factor between two nodes is determined by the travel demand and distance between them. The application of the model to a toy network shows that it reasonably well quantifies the level of connectivity of nodes in the network. If flow of rail networks can be measured in the same scale as that of road networks and the capacity of rail links can be estimated, the model proposed in this paper could be applied to intermodal transportation networks as well.
In this paper, we design and implement an efficient bulk-loading algorithm for CIR-Tree. Bulk-loading techniques increase node utilization, improve query performance and reduce index construction time. The CIR-tree has variable size of internal node entries since it only maintains minimal dimensions to decriminate child nodes. This property increases fan-out of internal nodes and improves search performance. Even though several bulk-loading algorithms for multi/high-dimensional index structures have been proposed, we cannot apple them to CIR-tree because of the variable size of internal node entries. In this paper, we propose an efficient bulk- loading algorithm for CIR-tree that improves the existing bulk-loading algorithm and accomodates the property of CIR-tree. We also implement it on a storage system MiDAS-III and show superiority of our algorithm through various experiments.
The objective was to propose effectiveness of conservative treatments including Korean medical treatments for symptomatic Schmorl's nodes (SNs). We conducted retrospective study that analyzed the medical records of two patients with the symptomatic SNs. They were treated by conservative treatments including Korean medical treatments for 3 weeks. We evaluated numeric rating scale (NRS), Oswestry disability index (ODI) and EuroQol-5 dimension (EQ-5D) index. After treatment, NRS, ODI were decreased and EQ-5D index was increased. We performed literature search to analyze the mechanisms of its treatment and evaluate clinical trials. There were three major mechanisms: (1) Improving constructive stability of vertebrae, (2) alleviating pain, and (3) controlling autoimmunity. When comparing operative treatment (OT) trials and conservative treatment (CT) trials, we couldn't find conclusive basis that support which one is more effective. As OT trials reported some severe adverse events, CT trials reported mild adverse events. The conservative treatments that we used encompasses those mechanisms and is relatively safe. To obtain exact evidence of effectiveness, further studies are needed.
Generally, multidimensional data such as image and spatial data require large amount of storage space. There is a limit to store and manage those large amounts of data in single workstation. If we manage the data on parallel computing environment which is being actively researched these days, we can get highly improved performance. In this paper, we propose a parallel multidimensional index structure that exploits the parallelism of the parallel computing environment. The proposed index structure is nP(processor)-nxmD(disk) architecture which is the hybrid type of nP-nD and 1P-nD. Its node structure in-creases fan-out and reduces the height of an index. Also, a range search algorithm that maximizes I/O parallelism is devised, and it is applied to k-nearest neighbor queries. Through various experiments, it is shown that the proposed method outperforms other parallel index structures.

In this paper, we propose an efficient index mechanism for real-time main memory database systems. Existing main memory index structures based on the tree can effectively support range searches. However, it doesn't guarantee the real-time characteristic because difference between the access time of a node and an average access time can be high. The index structures based on the hash have always a regular random access time on the simple searches and that speed is very fast. However they do not support range searches. To solve such problems, we propose a new index mechanism called Hyper Tree-Hash (Hyper-TH) that combines ECBH (Extendible Chained Bucket Hashing) and T*-tree. ECBH can be dynamically extended and has a very fast access time. T*-tree effectively supports the range searches. We show through our experiments that the proposed mechanism outperforms existing other index structures.

In this paper, a WDM metro ring consisting of access nodes with $FT-FR^n$ (Fixed Transmitter - n Fixed Receivers) is considered. A trade-off exists between node throughput and transmission fairness because the access nodes share wavelength channels. In order to eliminate the transmission unfairness and to increase throughput, the p-persistent medium access control (MAC) protocol is proposed: each node uses an empty optical slot to transmit a packet and make it available with the extraction of a transferred packet at the source access node, called source-stripping. The local empty slot can be used to transfer a head-of-line packet in the local buffer with probability p or it is used for the next downstream nodes with 1-p. The proposed MAC protocol provides better node throughput than the non-persistent protocol and exhibits better fairness index than the 1-persistent protocol in WDM ring networks. In addition, numerical analysis shows that the proposed MAC protocol maximizes the node throughput under uniform traffic conditions. For more detailed results, we use the network simulation under Poisson and self-similar traffic. Furthermore, unpredictable traffic constructed by the combination of the former and the latter is also considered. The reasonable probability of the p-persistent protocol for a given architecture can be determined through simulation.

With the advances in the information technology and mobile communications, we now face increasing demands for various services based on both of position tracking of moving objects and their efficient index scheme. Accordingly, the $TPR^*$-tree, which were proposed for efficiently tracking moving objects and predicting their positions in the future time, has drawn much intention. As the $TPR^*$-tree came from the R-tree that is suitable for indexing static objects, it does not support cheap update costs. Therefore, it seems to be very costly to index moving objects if there are frequent occurrences of node updates caused by continuously changing velocities and positions. If some moving objects with high velocities have node updates, in particular, then the $TPR^*$-tree may suffer from many unnecessary updates in the wide range of tree regions. To avoid such a problem, we propose a method that can keep fast-moving objects in the child nodes of the root node, thereby saving node update costs in the $TPR^*$-tree. To show our performance advantages and retaining $TPR^*$-tree features, we performed some performance experiments using a simulation technique.
Connectivity between water source and demand node can be served as a critical system performance indicator of the degree of water distribution network (WDN)' failure severity under abnormal conditions. Graph theory-based approaches have been widely applied to quantify the connectivity due to WDN's graph-like topological feature. However, most previous studies used undirected-unweighted graph theory which is not proper to WDN. In this study, the directed-weighted graph theory was applied for WDN connectivity analyses. We also proposed novel connectivity indicators, Source-to-Node Shortest Pathway (SNSP) and SNSP-Degree (SNSP-D) which is an inverse of the SNSP value, that does not require complicate hydraulic simulation of a WDN of interest. The proposed SNSP-D index was demonstrated in total 42 networks in J City, South Korea in which Pearson Correlation Coefficient (PCC) between the proposed SNSP-D and four other system performance indicators was computed: three resilience indexes and an energy efficiency metric. It was confirmed that a system representative value of the SNSP-D has strong correlation with all resilience and energy efficiency indexes (PCC = 0.87 on average). Especially, PCC was higher than 0.93 with modified resilience index (MRI) and energy efficiency indicator. In addition, a multiple linear regression analysis was performed to identify the system hydraulic characteristic factors that affect the correlation between SNSP-D and other system performance indicators. The proposed SNSP is expected to be served as a useful surrogate measure of resilience and/or energy efficiency indexes in practice.

Location based Services in the ubiquitous computing environment, namely u-LBS, use very large and skewed spatial objects that are closely related to locational information. It is especially essential to achieve fast search, which is looking for POI(Point of Interest) related to the location of users. This paper examines how to search large and skewed POI efficiently in the u-LBS environment. We propose the Dynamic-level Grid based R-Tree(DGR-Tree), which is an index for point data that can reduce the cost of stationary POI search. DGR-Tree uses both R-Tree as a primary index and Dynamic-level Grid as a secondary index. DGR-Tree is optimized to be suitable for point data and solves the overlapping problem among leaf nodes. Dynamic-level Grid of DGR-Tree is created dynamically according to the density of POI. Each cell in Dynamic-level Grid has a leaf node pointer for direct access with the leaf node of the primary index. Therefore, the index access performance is improved greatly by accessing the leaf node directly through Dynamic-level Grid. We also propose a K-Nearest Neighbor(KNN) algorithm for DGR-Tree, which utilizes Dynamic-level Grid for fast access to candidate cells. The KNN algorithm for DGR-Tree provides the mechanism, which can access directly to cells enclosing given query point and adjacent cells without tree traversal. The KNN algorithm minimizes sorting cost about candidate lists with minimum distance and provides NEB(Non Extensible Boundary), which need not consider the extension of candidate nodes for KNN search.
