  • The purpose of this study is to introduce heat-clearing music therapy[淸熱音樂療法] as one of the 17 kinds of oriental medicine music therapy. The heat-clearing music therapy[淸熱音樂療法] can be applied to certain types of syndromes. The representative syndromes are flaring-up of the heart Fire[心火], rising of the liver Yang[肝陽], and fidgetiness due to deficiency of Eum(陰, Yin). Metal-Gi[金氣] music and Water-Gi[水氣] music are mainly used in heat-clearing music therapy, The patients with the case of flaring-up of the heart Fire[心火] may listen to Metal-Gi[金氣] music. For the patient with rising of the liver Yang[肝陽], relieving constraint music therapy can be used. In other cases with patients with fidgetiness due to deficiency of Eum, replenishing vital essence music therapy can be used. This study describes the theory of heat-clearing music therapy[淸熱音樂療法] that has a good possibility as a new method of oriental medical treatment.

  • This study aims to develop Korean film music by using Korean traditional music with proper technique. As of 2019, current Korean film music is mostly modeled after Western music. The usage of traditional music instruments is significantly lower than the usage of western instruments and is merely used in Korean historical movies as embedded music. This supports the many views that Korean traditional music seems too difficult to appeal to the general audience in these modern times. Furthermore, there aren't any such cases to apply traditional music techniques to western instruments whereas there have been many occasions where traditional music instruments imitate western instruments with its tones. The suspected reason for this is due to the lack of proper understanding and techniques of traditional music that Korean film composers have utilized, and its limited exposure in popular music. However, traditions are special and unique way to represent the history, culture, lifestyle and characteristic of countries. Therefore, it is our duty to protect our own traditions. As both a Korean, and as a musician, new film music is needed which uses traditional music instruments and its techniques. When film composers create music with better understanding of Korean traditional music, this unique music will be able to transcend borders and spread throughout the world.

  • The main purpose of this paper is to verify the effectiveness of a high resolution direction finding method, so called the‘averaged MUSIC’. This method uses a new sample array covariance matrix that consists of diagonal components obtained by taking averages of the diagonal component values of the sample covariance matrix for the MUSIC. The paper shows that the proposed method performs higher resolved direction-of-arrival estimation and better resolution probability than the MUSIC in such cases as low signal-to-noise ratio, when the number of sensors used is finite, based on the statistical analysis.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust music retrieval system based on the content analysis of music. New feature extraction method called Multi-Feature Clustering (MFC) is proposed for the robust and optimum performance of the music retrieval system. It is demonstrated that the use of MFC significantly improves the system stability of music retrieval with better classification accuracy.

  • Music videos provide for many others images, alluring the audience to fall in another emotional world, while the sexual images shown in them suggest new images of man and woman. Today, men's images are being interpreted from various viewpoints. As interests in men's fashion are visualized through music video clothing, not only juveniles who want to be identified with the music video images but also adults try to imitate them, and proceed to wear the clothing, obliterating the boundary between 'reality' and 'illusion' and creating new images of men. This study is aimed at reviewing the male images shown in the music videos, particular their clothing, produced between 2000 and 2002. The results of this study could be summarized as follows : 1. Since beginning of the human history, men's image has been characterized by patriarchal system, capitalism, bourgeois class which emerged after industrial revolution and other man-dominant socio-cultural phenomena, such male image are shown in the music video as conservative and dominant image. 2. However, due to the post-modern culture, the power began to be decentralized. while feminism and men's liberation movement gain strength. As a result, women or heterosexuals began to regard men as sexual objects, and such a phenomenon is featured as sexual, bisexual or decadent images in the music videos. 3. On the threshold of the 21st century, music videos have begun to creatively describe men's life, their social conflicts, dreams and hopes and death and thereby. feature men's such images as being destroyed in view of existentialism. The numerous creative men's images interpreted in this way are featured in many music video works only to create playful, cyborg or demonic images using the senses. After all, men's images are featured in the music video costumes in diverse ways ranging from the conventional images to acquiescent images. In addition, various male images are combined with the characteristics of the music videos to be re-created anew. The young men in the our modern age tend to imitate or apply such images to create their own images or individualistic styles. All in all, men's image can be fixed no longer but diversified and fragmented in the new age.

  • The Ewha Music Database (EMDB) is an online database comprised of primary source materials related to music education from East Asia during the modern era (1880 to 1945) when Korea, Japan, and China were geopolitically and culturally intertwined. We developed the incipit search in EMDB as an embedded tool. This is the first attempt in Korea to implement a unique search function of musical data using alphabets of musical notes. Unlike in traditional search system that uses general literature information search conditions, such as author, title, publisher, year, number of pages, etc., it offers a new way of searching a musical piece/work and sheet music. This study confirms that digital information technology is an important methodology for research of music culture as a field of humanities.

  • Music is a means of emotional expression and self-expression. In addition, it allows to interact with others and communicate with the world. Music may be considered as inaccessible for people with hearing impairment, who are sometimes discriminated from the music community. We explore trends in various technologies and research that enable everyone to access and enjoy music through experiences that leverage new and innovative technological approaches and bridge the gap between people with and without hearing impairment. Various aspects of haptic systems are being studied, but most of them are performance-oriented and focus only on technical functions. As research matures, more detailed and new studies that converge with various senses are being attempted. These studies will likely evolve into influential research areas that can positively affect the lives of people in terms of accessibility and inclusion by providing detailed functions and stimuli to specific users, including those with hearing impairment.

  • Movement is everything in life and music is with our whole lives. Based on movement and sound, art has developed and reflected the times with close ties to technology and is creating new cultural content in the digital age. The absence of experts and research institutes with academic knowledge and experience in various fields compared to the frequency with which music and body movements are interwoven in the intermedia art and education of convergence is a real problem. Introducing the Rhythmik that studied the most basic principles of music and exercise through the precedent of foreign universities, we raise the need to introduce music physiology, musicians' Medicine and music performance science, the areas we studied together. It presents a new direction in the convergence era and education in pioneering research areas in which the only "I myself" systematically recognizes the movement to become the subject through physiology and medicine and scientifically moves and expresses music as a medium.

  • Today's technology enables consumers to trade millions of dollars, conduct online banking, access entertainment, and do countless other activities at the click of a button. Online social networks (OSN) have become a cultural phenomenon that allows for individualistic consumerism. Consumers are increasingly utilizing OSN to share ideas, build communities, and contact fellow consumers who are similar to themselves. The relevance of online communities to the music is immense especially because musicians are now using social media to build global audiences. Not only is information about music and performance disseminated online, but musical commodities are sold and traded online. Online music communities allow consumers to elect and create new identities online through the purchase of subcultural commodities. Given the growing economic importance of online music communities it is important to get a holistic view of subcultural communities online. This study utilized content analysis of online music community websites using the Netnography methodology as developed by Kozinet for data collection to analyze consumers' purchasing and consumption behavior of subcultural commodities online as related to the formation of subcultural identities. Findings showed that subcultural items are predominantly purchased online, especially digital music, and there is a need for more custom craft items. The authors presented a new conceptual taxonomy of online subcultural consumer classifications based on online behavior patterns.
