  • Currently, the most used forms, such as euro form and aluminum form, has many problems. There are issues with noise of construction site because of existing forms' material and issues with safety because of heavy weight. To solve these problems, there are many researches on using plastic and composite materials on the formwork. However, plastic has lower tensile strength than the steel and aluminum and composite materials are expensive. Therefore, constructors are avoid to use the forms with new materials. The purpose of this study is to develop light-weight plastic form to solve these existing problems by using ABS with optimized design. To verify, the study measured the amount of deflection from developed form through a load test. The test result showed a deflection of 1.15mm when 1.4ton was loaded in the middle of form. The result of the study verified that the usage of ABS and optimized design effectively reduced the weight and noise. Also, it's performance was verified through the load test.

  • Textile-reinforced concrete composite (TRC) is a new alternative material that can satisfy sustainable development needs in the civil engineering field. Its mechanical behaviour and properties have been identified from the experimental works. However, it is necessary for a numerical approach to consider the effect of the parameters on TRC's behaviour with lower analysis duration and cost related to the experiment. This paper presents obtained results of the numerical modelling for TRC composite using the cracking model for the cementitious matrix in TRC. As a result, the TRC composite exhibited a strain-hardening behaviour with the cracking phase characterized by the drops in tensile stress on the stress-strain curve. This model also showed the failure mode by multi-cracking on the TRC specimen surface. Furthermore, the parametric studies showed the effect of several parameters on the TRC tensile behaviour, as the reinforcement ratio, the length and position of the deformation measurement zone, and elevated temperatures. These numerical results were compared with the experiment and showed a remarkable agreement for all cases of this study.

  • The scope has been small and the specification has been not suggested yet when the pipe house was planed by farmer in Korea. The construction has been made by the suitable agreement of builder and farmer. Also, life cycle time of the pipe house material under serviceability load is not suggested yet. This study is to consider problems of past 2-dimension modeling, to introduce new 3-dimension modeling about pipe house analysis and to know that how the structure under various loads conditions behaves. Therefore, the object is to discuss the current design and to suggest new analysis modeling of the pipe house.

  • Based on classical viscoelastic damper, a brand-new damper is designed by the change of simple construction to implement vibration control for both translational vibration and rotational vibration simultaneously. Theoretic analysis has been carried out on the restoring force model and the control parameters. Two improved models are presented to obtain high simulation precision. The influence of the size, shape of the viscoelastic material, the ambient temperature and the response frequency on the vibration control effect is analyzed. The numerical results show that the new type viscoelastic damper is capable of mitigating the multi-dimensional seismic response of offshore platform and the response control effect has complicated relations with aforementioned related factors.

  • Hydraulic breakers are widely used for mining and construction engineering area but make serious noise problem. The noise is generated between a chisel and a piston when they are hit by a fluid power. This study proposed noise reduction method by the change of a chisel in a hydraulic breaker. In the new design, a different material is inserted inside of a chisel. The proposed design is analyzed and simulated by the use of a numerical method. A chisel by the new design was installed in a hydraulic breaker and experimented for sound pressure level. As a result, the noise of hydraulic breaker can be reduced more than 4 dB by simply changing a chisel.

  • Reconfiguration is an important method to minimize power loss and load interruption by creating an optimal configuration of a system. Furthermore, by increasing demand and value of consumption, construction of new power plants can be postponed in networks by reconfiguration and proper arrangement of linkage switches. This method is feasible for radial networks, which create meshes of linkage switches. One convenient way to achieve a system with minimal power loss and interruption is to utilize capacitors. Optimal placement and sizing of capacitors in such applications is an important issue in the literature. In this paper, cat swarm optimization is introduced as a new metaheuristic algorithm to achieve this purpose. Simulation has been carried out in two feasible networks, 69-bus and 33-bus systems.

  • New designed floating breakwater made of Polyethelener with considering the introduction of new material for being harmony with environment and stability of the floater is developed for a marine ranching. Model experiment in order to test its capability is performed for the regular and irregular waves in ocean engineering basin. Good capability to break the incident wave within the 6 second of period and 1 m of height is shown. Breaking efficiency for long period wave is not so good in regular and irregular wave. The results of this study will contribute to the design and construction of the floating breakwater.

  • Recently, the land area for many people has been limited because of industrialization and modernization in Korea. The large-scale constructions like the reclamation development projects have been progressed to resolve this problem mentioned above. Therefore, as many of the useful construction materials as possible are needed to perform the largescale construction projects. Many studies for the utilization of pond ash which has a similar characteristic of sand have been conducted and there has been often occurred many structural problems on roadbed in winter. Therefore, the characteristics of the freezing and thawing for Controlled Low-Strength Material(CLSM) using pond ash were analyzed and evaluated by unconfined compressive strength test and mass loss test in this study. As a result of this study, it was confirmed that new CLSM using pond ash with cement(8.2% by weight) was able to stand for the freezing and thawing behavior and was satisfied with the standard of Portland Cement Association.

  • Material properties of geomaterials are usually heterogeneous. And the limitted number of investigation for the subsurface material properties in terms of boreholes are not sufficient enough for identifying the heterogeneity. In most civil engineering work, pre-investigation results can be different from those by in-situ inspection during the construction work. With these points of view, a new analysis concept aiming to evaluate the uncertainty resulted from the heterogeneity of the geomaterial properties as well as to enhance a construction workability and design qualify by a prompt feedback of in-situ conditions was proposed. It was accomplished by linking the Element Free analysis and pre-developed stochastic methods represented by Karhunen-Loeve expansion. Simple ID problem was solved by the developed method, and its validity as well as the characteristic results by different stochastic methods were clarified.

  • Currently in increasing number of urban tunnels with small overburden are excavated according to the principle of the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM). Successful design, construction and maintenance of NATM tunnel demands prediction, control and monitoring of ground displacement and support stress high accuracy. A magnetic anisotropy sensor is used for nondestructive measurement of stress on surfaces of a ferromagnetic material, such as steel. The sensor is built on the principle of the magneto-strictive effect in which changes in magnetic permeability due to deformation of a ferromagnetic material is measured in a nondestructive manner, which then can be translated into the absolute values of stresses existing on the surface of the material. This technique was applied to measure stresses of H-beams, used as tunnel support structures, to confirm expected measurement accuracy with reading error of about 10 to 20 MPa, which was confirmed by monitoring strains released during cutting tests The results show that this method could be one of the promising technologies for non-destructive stress measurement for safe construction and maintenance of underground rock structures encountered in civil and mining engineering.
