  • In this paper, we have proposed a new approach to the design of robot vision system to develop the technology for the automatic test and assembling of precision mechanical and electronic parts for the factory automation. In order to perform real time implementation of the automatic assembling tasks in the complex processes, we have developed an intelligent control algorithm based-on neural networks control theory to enhance the precise motion control. Implementing of the automatic test tasks has been performed by the real-time vision algorithm based-on TMS320C31 DSPs. It distinguishes correctly the difference between the acceptable and unacceptable defective item through pattern recognition of parts by the developed vision algorithm. Finally, the performance of proposed robot vision system has been illustrated by experiment for the similar model of fifth cell among the twelve cell for automatic test and assembling in S company.

  • Eph receptors and their ligands, ephrins, mediate cell-to-cell contacts in a specific brain region and their bidirectional signaling is implicated in the regulation of apoptosis during early brain development. In this report, we used the alpha(${\alpha}$)-Cre transgenic line to induce ephrin-A5 over-expression in the distal region of the neural retina. Using this double transgenic embryo, we show that the over-expression of ephrin-A5 was responsible for inducing massive apoptosis in both the nasal and temporal retinas. In addition, the number of differentiated retinal neurons with the exception of the bipolar neuron was significantly reduced, whereas the laminar organization of the mature retina remained intact. Consistent with this finding, an analysis of the mature retina revealed that the size of the whole retina-particularly the nasal and temporal regions-is markedly reduced. These results strongly suggest that the level of ephrin-A5 expression plays a role in the regulation of the size of the retinal progenitor pool in the neural retina.

  • A photovoltaic system is an infinite and clean energy system. A photovoltaic system consists of a solar cell array, a converter, a inverter and a control unit. It is necessary that the Maximum Power Point Tracker(MPPT) is applied to the photovoltaic system because the output power of solar cell array is varied with irradiation, temperature and external effects. In this paper, the neural networks theory, one of the control methods, is applied to track the maximum power point of the photovoltaic system. The MPPT using neural networks theory is proposed to improve existing energy converter efficiency. Also the theory is applied to operation of inverter type airconditionig system.

  • In this paper, a new stroke extraction method of Chinese character base on the human optical field(the Receptive Field of Cell) is proposed. In processing the feature extraction of the chinese character, needed are more perfect extraction methods for separated informations and its data base. This method can be applied to processing neural cell using conventional feature extraction mechanism in the optical boundary of retina and cerebrum. With this method, its applicability and effectiveness were demonstrated extracting strokes from Chinese character.

  • This paper presents an EMG pattern classification method to identify motion commands for the control of the artificial arm by SOM-TVC(self organizing map - tracking Voronoi cell) based on neural network with a feature parameter. The eigenvalue is extracted as a feature parameter from the EMG signals and Voronoi cells is used to define each pattern boundary in the pattern recognition space. And a TVC algorithm is designed to track the movement of the Voronoi cell varying as the condition of additive noise. Results are presented to support the efficiency of the proposed SOM-TVC algorithm for EMG pattern recognition and compared with the conventional EDM and BPNN methods.

  • In this paper, a new synapse cell with nonvolatile SONOS semiconductor memory device is proposed and it's fundamental function electronically implemented SONOS NVSM has shown characteristics that the memory value, synaptic weights, can be increased or decreased incrementally. A novel SONOS synapse is used to read out the stored analog value. For the purpose of synapse implementation using SONOS NVSM, this work has investigated multiplying characteristics including weight updating characteristics and neuron output characteristics. It is concluded that SONOS synapse cell has good agreement for use as a synapse in artificial neural networks.

  • The emergence of brain organoids as a model system has been a tremendously exciting development in the field of neuroscience. Brain organoids are a gateway to exploring the intricacies of human-specific neurogenesis that have so far eluded the neuroscience community. Regardless, current culture methods have a long way to go in terms of accuracy and reproducibility. To perfectly mimic the human brain, we need to recapitulate the complex in vivo context of the human fetal brain and achieve mature neural circuitry with an intact cytoarchitecture. In this review, we explore the major challenges facing the current brain organoid systems, potential technical breakthroughs to advance brain organoid techniques up to levels similar to an in vivo human developing brain, and the future prospects of this technology.

  • One of the most extensively studied populations of multipotent adult stem cells are mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). MSCs derived from the human umbilical cord vein (HUC-MSCs) are morphologically and immunophenotypically similar to MSCs isolated from bone marrow. HUC-MSCs are multipotent stem cells, differ from hematopoietic stem cells and can be differentiated into neural cells. Since neural tissue has limited intrinsic capacity of repair after injury, the identification of alternate sources of neural stem cells has broad clinical potential. We isolated mesenchymal-like stem cells from the human umbilical cord vein, and studied transdifferentiation-promoting conditions in neural cells. Dopaminergic neuronal differentiation of HUC-MSCs was also studied. Neural differentiation was induced by adding bFGF, EGF, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) in N2 medium and N2 supplement. The immunoreactive cells for $\beta$-tubulin III, a neuron-specific marker, GFAP, an astrocyte marker, or Gal-C, an oligodendrocyte marker, were found. HUC-MSCs treated with bFGF, SHH and FGF8 were differentiated into dopaminergic neurons that were immunopositive for tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) antibody. HUC-MSCs treated with DMSO and BHA rapidly showed the morphology of multipolar neurons. Both immunocytochemistry and RT-PCR analysis indicated that the expression of a number of neural markers including NeuroD1, $\beta$-tubulin III, GFAP and nestin was markedly elevated during this acute differentiation. While the stem cell markers such as SCF, C-kit, and Stat-3 were not expressed after neural differentiation, we confirmed the differentiation of dopaminergic neurons by TH/$\beta$-tubulin III positive cells. In conclusion, HUC-MSCs can be differentiated into dopaminergic neurons and these findings suggest that HUC-MSCs are alternative cell source of therapeutic treatment for neurodegenerative diseases.

  • The machine-part cell formation means the grouping of similar parts and similar machines into families in order to minimize bottleneck machines, bottleneck parts, and inter-cell part movements in cellular manufacturing systems and flexible manufacturing systems. The cell formation problem is knows as a kind of NP complete problems. This paper briefly introduces the cell-formation problem and proposes a cell formation method based on the Kohonen's self-organizing feature map which is a neural network model. It also shows some experiment results using the proposed method. The proposed method can be easily applied to the cell formation problem compared to other meta-heuristic based methods. In addition, it can be used to solve large-scale cell formation problems.
