  • This thesis is concerned with the control of Arago's disk system using CAN(Controller Area Network). CAN protocol is used widely for the real time control in networked control systems(NCS). A networked control system using CAN is constructed to perform position control of Arago's disk. The mathematical model, of overall system is derived to design an appropriate controller analytical1y. Various operating points of the Arago's disk system in the real time control are chosen as stable region ($45^{\circ}$), marginal1y stable region($90^{\circ}$) and unstable region($120^{\circ}$), and the experiment for the position control of arago's disk system is done for each operating point. The performance of the suggested NCS is verified by experiments. It is shown that the NCS using CAN has stability and excel1ency in real time control.

  • This paper presents a haptic display of a cooperative work between the networked multiple users. Excluding the possibility of large timedelay among the users, it is presented the way of configuring individual haptic display systems including the computation of interaction forces, joint driving forces of haptic devices and simulation of the virtual objects. A haptic display system is developed consisting of two haptic display devices operated by two remote users and experimental results to show the validity of the proposed method are also presented.

  • This paper is concerned with parallel FFT and Quick-Merge Sort. They are implemented on computers interconnected by VMIC 5579 reflective memory and a cluster of workstations (PCs) interconnected via Fast Ethernet. Message passing interface (MPI) parallel library is used for communication in a cluster of workstations. An improved parallel FFT is also presented to decrease an execution time in the case of a small number of hosts. Distributed shared memory (DSM), VMIC 5579 reflective memory (RM), a cluster of workstations (COW) and message passing interface (MPI) parallel library are described.

  • $\textbullet$ An autonomous mobile robot was controlled through the Internet. $\textbullet$ For the direct control, the feedback data should be provided properly. $\textbullet$ Therefore, an efficient communication scheme should be defined. $\textbullet$ To overcome the transmission delay, the highly abstracted message format was used. $\textbullet$ As the feedback data, the real image sequences may suffer the transmission delay or loss of content. $\textbullet$ To resolve this, the feature information was used to construct the synthetic feedback information. $\textbullet$ By doing this, the operator could feel the hands-on control with an Internet-based robot.

  • PCS(Process Computer System) is installed to monitor various kinds of process parameters in Power Plant and networked for synthetic monitor and event analysis in all site. But when an event is occured sequentially or simultaneously among the plants, it is difficult to analyze it because of different Standard-Time in each Plant. Standard-Time Receiving Device is developed to solve this problem and development procedure is descried here.

  • A knowledge map as the taxonomy used in a knowledge repository should be structured to support and supplement knowledge activities of users who sequentially inquire and select knowledge for problem solving. The conventional knowledge map with a hierarchical structure has the advantage of systematically sorting out types and status of the knowledge to be managed, however it is not only irrelevant to knowledge user's process of cognition and utilization, but also incapable of supporting user's activity of querying and extracting knowledge. This study suggests a methodology for constructing a networked knowledge map that can support and reinforce the referential navigation, searching and selecting related and chained knowledge in term of contents, between knowledge. Regarding a keyword as the semantic information between knowledge, this research's networked knowledge map can be constructed by aggregating each set of knowledge links in an automated manner. Since a keyword has the meaning of representing contents of a document, documents with common keywords have a similarity in content, and therefore the keyword-based document networks plays the role of a map expressing interactions between related knowledge. In order to examine the feasibility of the proposed methodology, 50 research papers were randomly selected, and an exemplified networked knowledge map between them with content relevance was implemented using common keywords.

  • Today most customers are networked via wired or wireless media. They receive more information than ever before so become clever with valuable information. Under ubiquitous environment, most organizations are struggling to achieve the competitive edge over other organizations. Like others, University has the same problems to meet clients' needs to become being competitive. Most universities are struggling to find the answer how to develop effective campus service systems considering existing or new information systems with very new to well-known high technologies available to them. The research is to provide meaningful thoughts by analyzing empirical data and provide meaning information for University being competitive with IS and mobile campus related decisions.

  • Latest advances in network sensor technology and state of the art of mobile robot, and artificial intelligence research can be employed to develop autonomous and distributed monitoring systems. In this study, as the preliminary step for developing a multi-purpose "Intelligent Space" platform to implement advanced technologies easily to realize smart services to human. We will give an explanation for the ISpace system architecture designed and implemented in this study and a short review of existing techniques, since there exist several recent thorough books and review paper on this paper. Instead we will focus on the main results with relevance to the DIND data fusion with CI of Intelligent Space. We will conclude by discussing some possible future extensions of ISpace. It is first dealt with the general principle of the navigation and guidance architecture, then the detailed functions tracking multiple objects, human detection and motion assessment, with the results from the simulations run.
