Electric utility companies have the responsibility of providing good electricity for their customers. They have introduced the DAS(Distribution Automation System) to automate the power distribution networks. DAS engineers require state-of-the-art applications, such as a way to actively manage the distribution system and gain economic benefits from a flexible DAS architectural design. The existing DAS is not capable of handling these needs. It requires operator intervention whenever feeder overloading is detected while operator error could cause the feeder overload area to be extended. It also utilizes a closed architecture and it is therefore difficult to meet the system migration and future enhancement requirements. This paper represents a web based, platform-independent, flexible DAS architectural design and active database application. Recent advanced Internet technologies are fully utilized in this new DAS architecture allowing it to meet the system migration and future enhancement requirements. By using an active database, the DAS can minimize the feeder overloading area in the distribution system without operator intervention, thereby minimizing mistakes due to operator error.

In this paper, we propose a neural network for learning to control semi-linear dynamical systems. The network is a composite system of four three-layer backpropagation subnetworks, and is able to control inverted pendulums better than systems based on modern control theory at least in some ranges of parameters. Three of the four subnetworks in our network system process angles, velocities, and positions of a moving inverted pendulum, respectively. The outputs from those three subnetworks are input to the remaining subnetwork that makes control decisions. Each of the four subnetworks learns connection weights independently by backpropagation algorithms. Teaching signals are given by the human operator. Also, input signals are generated by the human operator, but they are converted by preprocessors to actual input data for the three subnetworks except for the network for control decisions. The whole system is implemented on both of 16 bit personal computers and 32 bit workstations. First, we briefly provide the research background and the inverted pendulum problem itself, followed by the description of our composite neural network model. Next, some results from the simulation are given, which are subsequently compared with the results from a control system based on modern control theory. Then, some discussions and conclusion follow.

교통망설계문제(network design problem, NDP)는 교통체계(transportation system)을 최적화시키는 설계변수(design parameter, design variable)를 구하는 문제이다. 본 연구에서는 교통망설계문제를 조금 변환시킨 목표지향 교통망설계문제(target-oriented network design problem, target-oriented NDP)를 제시하고 이를 풀기 위한 기법도 제시한다. 목표지향 교통망설계는 교통운영자(traffic operator) 또는 관리자(travel manager)가 특정 교통정책 목표(target)를 미리 설정하고 이를 달성하기 위한 최적 설계변수를 찾는 문제이다. 즉, 일반적인 교통망설계문제(general NDP)는 총통행비용이나 순편익 등 특정목적함수를 최적화시키는 설계변수를 찾는데 반해, 목표지향 교통망설계(target NDP)는 사전에 설정된 목표수준(target level)을 달성하기 위한 설계변수를 구하는 문제이다. 본 연구에서 제시된 목표지향 교통망설계모형을 교통수단분담문제에 적용하여 모형을 평가한다.

In this study, a simulation model is developed to analyze the effects of routing and scale-economy of transmission facilities on the traffic network topology and investment cost changes in a metropolitan telephone network. Computational experiments showed that the wide deployment of bifurcated routing in a dual-homing configuration reduces significantly the traffic network connectivity and the investment cost. Its enhanced version, when combined with the subscriber network cost model, can be used as a prototype cost proxy model for figuring out the access charges in a multi-operator environment.

In general, the fusion of neural network and fuzzy logic theory is based on the fact that neural network and fuzzy logic theory have the common properties that 1) the activation function of a neuron is similar to the membership function of fuzzy variable, and 2) the functions of summation and products of neural network are similar to the Max-Min operator of fuzzy logics. In this paper, a fuzzy-neural network will be proposed and a force controller of the robot gripper, utilizing the fuzzy-neural network, will be presented. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy will be demonstrated by computer simulation.

최근 국내에서도 이동망 경쟁활성화를 위한 방안으로서 MVNO 규제제도를 도입해야 한다는 논의가 진행되고 있다. 이미 주요 선진국들은 이동통신망의 경쟁활성화, 유무선 통합의 추진, 이동통신네트워크 여유 용량 해소, 모바일 인터넷의 활성화를 위해 다소 입장의 차이는 있지만 MVNO 규제제도를 일반적으로 도입하는 추세이다. 지난 2002년 10월 1일, 영국의 유선사업자인 BT가 자회사인 MMO2를 MNO로 하여 MVNO 시장에 진입하여 이동통신 이용자들을 대상으로 서비스를 개시하였다. 국내에서도 MVNO 제도가 도입될 경우 BT와 같은 유선사업자들도 시장이 진입할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. 본 고에서는 유선사업자의 MVNO 진입현황과 이동통신시장에 진입할 수 있는 규제 방안을 제시하고 있다.

본 논문에서는 데이터 스트림 환경에서 윈도우 기반 연산자를 대상으로 메모리와 연산 비용의 상대적인 이해득실 관계를 분석한다. 이를 위하여 기본적인 연산자 네트워크 구성 요소를 식별하고, 윈도우 메모리의 재배치를 통한 메모리 소요량의 감소 효과와, 이로 인한 추가적인 연산 비용의 규모를 산정하는 비용 모델을 수립한다. 이러한 비용 모델을 통해 윈도우 메모리의 재배치의 효용성을 확인하고, 이러한 접근 방법을 데이터 스트림 질의의 실행 계획 개선을 위해 효과적으로 활용할 수 있는 방법을 모색한다. 이를 통해 데이터 스트림 환경에서 질의 처리 및 최적화의 적용 영역을 확장시키고, 윈도우 메모리 재배치를 통한 질의최적화를 위한 비용 산정 모델의 토대를 제공한다.

The environment of the access network service market is characterized by uncertain demand and various competing alternative technologies. In Korea, despite the introduction of competition, dominant Public Network Operator(PNO) still leads the market. Therefore, the decision of PNO has a great impact on the access network evolution. In this paper, we propose an model which aims to reduce risks and both investment and operating costs, to cope with the uncertain demand and technology evolution. We expect this model to provide a tool analyze risks and evaluate various strategies on the network evolution.

In this work, we present a method to deal with the interval valued decision making systems. First, we propose a new type of equality measure based on the Ordered Weighted Averaging (OWA) operator. The proposed equality measure has a structure to render the extreme values of the measure by choosing a suitable weighting vector of the OWA operator. From this property, we derive a bidirectional fuzzy inference network which can be applied for the decisionmaking systems requiring the inverval valued decisions.

The introduction of a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) system is expected to increase consumer benefits, boost competition in the mobile market, utilize idle bandwidth, and expedite mobile-fixed line convergence and growth in the mobile Internet market. This research endeavors to study the optimal access charge for an MVNO system, which is expected to be introduced to the Korean mobile communications market. We found that the optimal access charge is higher in the interdependent model than in the independent model if demand for mobile phone service is based on a substitution relationship. We also found that the optimal access charge is higher than the marginal cost.
