  • A new neural network architecture for the recognition of patterns from images is proposed, which is partially based on the results of physiological studies. The proposed network is composed of multi-layers and the nerve cells in each layer are connected by spatial filters which approximate receptive fields in optic nerve fields. In the proposed method, patterns recognition for complicated images is carried out using global features as well as local features such as lines and end-points. A new generating method of matched filters representing global features is proposed in this network.

  • Ultrasound has emerged to become a commonly used modality in the performance of chronic pain interventions. It allows direct visualization of tissue structure while allowing real time guidance of needle placement and medication administration. Ultrasound is a relatively affordable imaging tool and does not subject the practitioner or patient to radiation exposure. This review focuses on the anatomy and sonoanatomy of peripheral non-axial structures commonly involved in chronic pain conditions including the stellate ganglion, suprascapular, ilioinguinal, iliohypogastric, genitofemoral and lateral femoral cutaneous nerves. Additionally, the review discusses ultrasound guided intervention techniques applicable to these structures.

  • Introduction : The goal in the management of soft tissue injuries of the lower extremity is to obtain a closed stable wound as soon as possible. Recently, An anatomic study that has shown the role of the vascular axis that follows the superficial sensory nerves in supplying the skin developed the concept of a neuroskin island flap. It has been suggested that skin island flaps supplied by the vascular network of the saphenous nerve is one of the most reliable treatment to skin defect below the knee joint. Purpose : The aim of this article is to present a clinical experience of neuroskin island flaps based on the saphenous nerve and to estimate the clinical utilities of distally based saphenous neuroskin flap. Materials and Methods : From September 1995 to May 2000, a total 12 distally based neuroskin island flaps supplied by the vascular axis of the saphenous nerve were performed to cover defects in pretibial area below the knee. Result : flap necrosis due to reactivation of existing infection developed in a case that skin defect had been on infected nonunion site of tibia. But other 11 cases survived completely without any specific complications. Conclusion : The distally based neuroskin pedicled island flap using the vascular network of the saphenous nerve are versatile and reliable and especially indicated for limited defects in pretibial area below the knee joint which are not good indications for other better-known flaps.

  • This paper describes electrical analysis of the information processing of the nervous system. A general-purpose electrical neuronal model for simulating the electrical activity in a single nerve cell and in small groups of nerve cell has constructed. This model consists of two basic electronic modules to represent respectively a "cell body" and an "axon (with synapses)", together with various related appurtenances. The primary advantages of this method are; holistic view, actual physical representation of various electrical activities in a single nerve cell, display of the activity of all nerve cells flexibility with respect to network parameters. Moreover, this model can effectively help push forward our general ability to explore and conceptualize the electrical activity of interconnected networks of nerve cell behaving in concert. Also, this electronic module technique is the best of various means for this task of realistic representation of aggregates of neurons.gregates of neurons.

  • In this paper, we are applied a nerve network to allow for the reflection of data learning methods in their overall forms by using cluster data rather than data learning by the stages and then selected a nerve network model and analyzed its variables through learning by the cluster. The CkLR algorithm was proposed to analyze the reaction variables of clustering outcomes through an approach to the initialization of K-means clustering and build a model to assess the prediction rate of clustering and the accuracy rate of prediction in case of new data inputs. The performance evaluation results show that the accuracy rate of test data by the class was over 92%, which was the mean accuracy rate of the entire test data, thus confirming the advantages of a specialized structure found in the proposed learning nerve network by the class.

  • Objectives: The retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) is a site of glaucomatous optic neuropathy whose early changes need to be detected because glaucoma is one of the most common causes of blindness. This paper proposes an automated RNFL detection method based on the texture feature by forming a co-occurrence matrix and a backpropagation neural network as the classifier. Methods: We propose two texture features, namely, correlation and autocorrelation based on a co-occurrence matrix. Those features are selected by using a correlation feature selection method. Then the backpropagation neural network is applied as the classifier to implement RNFL detection in a retinal fundus image. Results: We used 40 retinal fundus images as testing data and 160 sub-images (80 showing a normal RNFL and 80 showing RNFL loss) as training data to evaluate the performance of our proposed method. Overall, this work achieved an accuracy of 94.52%. Conclusions: Our results demonstrated that the proposed method achieved a high accuracy, which indicates good performance.

  • A remote measurement system for nerve conduction has been developed to aid patients with spinal cord injury by accident. Existing cooperation between rescuers and doctors can be supported through the introduction of multimedia desktop video conferencing. Such facilities provide several advantages over conventional video conferencing. In particular, patients may feel free because they can see a doctor through the video conferencing facilities. This paper describes the system implementation and evaluation. The author considers the network capability and image data handling, and introduces a method a transmit image data for this system.

  • A unhealthy 58-year-old male patient required extraction of left upper second molar due to advanced periodontitis. Lidocaine contained 1 : 100000 epinephrine for left posterior superior alveolar nerve block was administered in the mucobuccal fold above the second molar to be treated at the local private dental clinic. After four hours of posterior superior alveolar block anesthesia, patient feeled double vision and discomfort of eyeball movement. At next day, he complained difficulty of left eyeball movement, vertigo and diplopia. He was referred to our department via local clinic and department of ophthalomology of our hospital. He was treated by medication and eyeball exercise, and then follow up check. The double vision and medial rectus muscle palsy disappeared patially after 2 months of block anesthesia. We described herein an ocular complication of diplopia and inferior rectus muscle palsy after posterior superior alveolar nerve block for extraction of left upper second molar, and review the cause or origin of this case. The autonomic nervous system is presented as the logical basis for the untoward systems of ophthalmologic sign likely to diplopia and inferior rectus muscle palsy, rather then simple circulation of anesthetic solution in the vascular network.

  • This paper describes the development of the KORNET that may be regarded as the latest public packet-swiched computer communication network. The KORNET project included the development of the network management center (NMC), a network concentrator. For the KORNET we use the virtual circuit(VC) method, a distributed adaptive routing algorithm, and a dynamic buffer management algorithm. The NMC acts as a nerve center of the network, performing such function as network monitoring, subscriber and network management and routing management, etc. As for the NNP and NC hardware, we have implemented them with the 16-bit multitask/multiprocessor technology using MC68000 microprocessors. Softwares have been developed using C language is required for real time processing. All the network protocols we have developed comply completely with the latest CCITT recommendations including X.25, X,3 , X.28 and X.29.
