Color Image Enhancement Based on Adaptive Nonlinear Curves of Luminance Features

  • This paper proposes an image-dependent color image enhancement method that uses adaptive luminance enhancement and color emphasis. It effectively enhances details of low-light regions while maintaining well-balanced luminance and color information. To compare the structure similarity and naturalness, we used the tone mapped image quality index (TMQI). The proposed method maintained better structure similarity in the enhanced image than did the space-variant luminance map (SVLM) method or the adaptive and integrated neighborhood dependent approach for nonlinear enhancement (AINDANE). The proposed method required the smallest computation time among the three algorithms. The proposed method can be easily implemented using the field-programmable gate array (FPGA), with low hardware resources and with better performance in terms of similarity.

  • Cellular automata are dynamical systems in which space and time are discrete, where each cell has a finite number of states and updates its states by interactive rules among the cell-neighborhood. From the characteristics of self-reproduction and self- organization, it is possible to create a neural network which has the specific patterns or structures dynamically. CAM-Brain is a kind of such neural network system which evolves its structure by adopting evolutionary computations like genetic algorithms (GA). In this paper, we suggest the evolution strategies for the structure of neural networks based on cellular automata.

A Study on the Residents' Consciousness for Park and Green Space in the City of Daejeon (대전시 공원녹지에 대한 주민의식 조사)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine residents' consciousness for urban parks and green spaces in the city of Daejeon. This work enables us to find new implementation factors to increase resident's satisfaction of urban parks and green spaces. This study surveyed 1005 residents from 80dongs(neighborhoods), of 5 Gu(districts) districts in Daejeon. The survey was conducted with a structurally organized questionnaire and objective materials. The data collected from participants of the survey were summarized as follows. Daejeon residents want more natural parks and neighborhood parks than other urban facilities as recreation facilities. The favorite places in which Daejeon residents visit are Bomun Mountain, Gap River, Geajock Mountain, and Yudeon River, in order. In landscape scenery of Daejeon, residents prefer Daedeck research complex area than others and they felt that urban landscape scenery is more improved than 5 years ago. Also they want to increase the area of park and green space about 4times more than present. The result shows that the importance index of park and green space is 8.7 and the satisfaction index is 5.42. These results suggests that the demand by residents for urban park and green spaces will improve as the urban structure is improved.

A Study on the Role and Characteristics of Middle Space in Museum of Seoul National University based on the Concept of Sequential Exhibition Space (연속적 전시공간 개념으로 본 서울대 뮤지엄 내 연결 공간의 역할과 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial transformational patterns according to the spectator and the exhibition environment and to examine the role of 'the middle space' organically linking the exhibition space with MoA which is a representative example of 'sequential exhibition space'. The concept of sequential exhibition space in MoA is applied not only to building but also to extended continental concepts including neighborhood. MoA's exhibition space consists of the library area and the exhibition area. In particular, the spaces of library area perform a complex function as a quasi-exhibition space, and the exhibition spaces have variable spatial transformation through an associated structure of the library area and the educational area. The types of exhibition space those constitute the sequential exhibition space of MoA appear as 'Room type', 'Free plan type', and 'Gallery type'. Each exhibition space maintains independence, but it is changed according to the situation of exhibition. The flow is based on the spiral induction around the central void space, but with selective circulation considering the visitors. Therefore, through the transformation of the exhibition area and the division of the flow, the whole museum space appears as the area differentiation.

Determining Spatial Neighborhoods in Indoor Space using Integrated IndoorGML and IndoorPOI data

  • Indoor space has been one of the focal points for geospatial research as various factors such as increasing demands for application and demand for adaptive response in emergencies have arisen. IndoorGML (Indoor Geography Markup Language) has provided a standardized method of representing the topological aspect of micro-scale environments, with its extensive specifications and flexible applicability. However, as more real-world problems and needs demand attention, suggestions to improve this standard, such as representing IndoorPOI (Indoor Points of Interest), have arisen. Hence, existing algorithms and functionalities that we use on perceiving these indoor spaces must also adapt to accommodate said improvements. In this study, we explore how to define spatial neighborhoods in indoor spaces represented by an integrated IndoorGML and IndoorPOI data. We revisit existing approaches to combine the aforementioned datasets and refine previous approaches to perform neighborhood spatial queries in 3D. We implement the proposed algorithm in three use cases using sample datasets representing a real-world structure to demonstrate its effectiveness for performing indoor spatial analysis.

A Study on the Planting Design for the Renewal of Urban Neighborhood Park - In Case of Okgu Neighborhood Park, Siheung, Gyeonggi-do, Korea - (도시근린공원 리뉴얼을 위한 식재디자인 연구 - 경기도 시흥시 옥구공원을 대상으로 -)

  • This paper aims to identify planting design for the renewal of Okgu Park, located in Siheung, Gyeonggi-do. I designate planting concept fit spatial functions and also suggest planting designs that are proper for a growth environment. The spatial functions of the research site are divided on the basis of the park facilities, its surroundings, and usage. To understand the planting concept, this paper looks into the distribution of plant species and the precise planting structure. To understand the planting concept and the current usage of shade space in the park, I examine the distribution of plant species and the precise planting structure. There are 48 kinds of plants, with Zoysia japonica area (28.84%), Prunus yedoensis (8.0%), Pinus thunbergii (6.73%) and Zelkova serrata (6.38%) taking up the majority. 27 places were chosen for researching the precise planting structure. The research shows that the average green coverage ratio is 38.14% and the average green capacity coefficient is $0.72m^3/m^2$. The growth defective rate of trees in the shade areas is estimated by averaging the classified growth conditions of individual trees per block of shade areas. Areas with an inferior environment for growth and low spatial usage in Okgu Park are selected as subjects for planting design. After comparing the spatial functions with planting concepts and analyzing the growth of plants, I identify $36,236m^2$ areas with inferior growth condition. I also examine structures and the surrounding areas to find areas that require urgent planting improvement, specifically identifying landscape space and shade space around the fountain and the buffer space nearby the North gate. I rearrange spatial functions in the selected areas to devise a planting design considering the existing vegetation, layer structure, and its usage. I set the planting concept and direction to improve the landscape of the selected areas through implementing a planting design so the park users can be satisfied with each space.

  • The main purpose of this study is to examine housing norm of the middle classes, housing norm and normative housing deficits by independent variables(socio - economic variables, family characteristic variable sand housing characteristic variables).There are two major findings of this study as follows :1. In the housing norm, housing space is 99.Om2, the number of rooms is 3.0, housing structure type is apartment, the maintenance cost is 13 thousand won, and housing tenure is home ownership. And housing qualify is classified into 5 dimensions, and neighborhood environment is classified into 3 dimensions.2. This thesis is to conform Morris et aL.(1984)`s hypotheses that cultural norm is homogeneous in culturally unified society and if it appears heterogeneously, It is the subject`s reporting error of the subjects confusing cultural norm with family norm.

Using & Structure of Leisure Spaces Perceived by Adolescents (청소년의 여가환경이용과 희망 여가공간의 위치구조)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data for the leisure space planning desirable for adolescents through survey on their using leisure space. Four hundred sixty-six middle and high school students living in Chongju city, Gwesan-gun and Eumsung-gun responded the first basic questionnaire and 160 students among them answered again the second questionnaire for more information on the site of leisure space they want. Frequency, percentage, $x^2-test$ and Multi-Dimensional Scale were methods of analysis. The results are as follows. Adolescents are wasting their leisure time because of insufficient facilities for productive activities. They use the time, when observed in one week, roaming around downtown, studying in off-school academies, visiting shops and playing in the game rooms. And when observed in a month, they use time meeting friends in coffee shops, visiting restaurants, studying in the libraries, playing in the ground and visiting sports facilities. Adolescents' leisure time were different according to sex, age, father's educational level, mother's occupation, household income, and living area. Students hoped the leisure spares to be located in the neighborhood where they can access easily, and facilities they wanted were small shop-buildings, game rooms, off-school academies, schools, sports facilities, studying moms and libraries. It is necessary that adolescents have opportunities to learn how to use their leisure time healthy in the leisure space. And consideration on adolescents living in the remote rural area have to be dealt importantly in the beginning of various planning.

An Al Approach with Tabu Search to solve Multi-level Knapsack Problems:Using Cycle Detection, Short-term and Long-term Memory

  • An AI approach with tabu search is designed to solve multi-level knapsack problems. The approach performs intelligent actions with memories of historic data and learning effect. These action are developed ont only by observing the attributes of the optimal solution, the solution space, and its corresponding path to the optimal, but also by applying human intelligence, experience, and intuition with respect to the search strategies. The approach intensifies, or diversifies the search process appropriately in time and space. In order to create a good neighborhood structure, this approach uses two powerful choice rules that emphasize the impact of candidate variables on the current solution with respect to their profit contribution. "Pseudo moves", similar to "aspirations", support these choice rules during the evaluation process. For the purpose of visiting as many relevant points as possible, strategic oscillation between feasible and infeasible solutions around the boundary is applied. To avoid redundant moves, short-term (tabu-lists), intemediate-term (cycle-detection), and long-term (recording frequency and significant solutions for diversfication) memories are used. Test results show that among the 45 generated problems (these problems pose significant or insurmountable challenges to exact methods) the approach produces the optimal solutions in 39 cases.lutions in 39 cases.

  • In solving multi-level knapsack problems, conventional heuristic approaches often assume a short-sighted plan within a static decision enviornment to find a near optimal solution. These conventional approaches are inflexible, and lack the ability to adapt to different problem structures. This research approaches the problem from a totally different viewpoint, and a new method is designed and implemented.
