  • Microfinance is seen as a tool for poverty elimination by providing various services characterized as financial and non-financial to minority groups in the society to be included in the mainstream financial system. This paper seeks to examine the effect of microfinance institutions' (MFIs) financial and non-financial services on women's entrepreneurship and empowerment in Jordan as a developing country. To gain a deeper understanding of the effectiveness of microfinance services, the study is undertaken to address the question of what kinds of services are available and whether the MFI services are in line with the actual needs of women entrepreneurs to improve their performance. Hence, a qualitative approach was adopted in this study using semi-structured interview questions to collect data from twenty-four women entrepreneurs in Jordan. The results showed that, as regards financial services, the most important needs of women entrepreneurs include providing adequate financing with necessary financial facilities such as reducing interest, reducing monthly installments, and extending the grace period, while non-financial services should include holding specialized courses, accessing a counseling center, providing incentives and psychological support, marketing support, and monitoring and evaluation. This study concluded that factors associated with MFI play a crucial role to uplift women entrepreneurs and eliminate gender inequality.

The most commonly used medical services were providing instruction in oral drug administration, checking drug beneficial/adverse effects, and administering blood glucose test, while the most needed medical services requiring hospital based home care nursing were complex pressure ulcer care, followed by diabetic foot ulcer management and nutrient injection. Conclusion: The present results should provide fundamental data for better healthcare services with hospital based home care nursing at elderly care institutions as part of a 'win-win' strategy through which medical expenses are reduced, insurance costs are kept stable, and safe and high-quality medical services are provided for residents of elder care institutions. • This study is designed to find out the determinants of dual-earner wives' needs for family-supportive services. For this purpose, a hypothetical model which explains the relationships among 6 stressors, role overload, stress and needs for 4 family-supportive services is developed. Using the data collected by purposive sampling from 234 professional women and 208 blue-collar women living in Chinju and Sacheon, the hypothetical model developed in this study was tested. In order to examine occupational class differences, a model for professionals and another model for blue-collars were developed separately and compared. For data analysis, a covariance structure analysis was used. The best-fitting model for professional women (df=141, GFI=0.928, CFI=0.965) and the model for blue collar women (df=141, GFI=0.902, CFI=0.912) were found. As a result of comparing two models, 9 common relationships were found:l)Greater dissatisfaction with child care service increases role overload; 2)Longer work hours increases role overload; 3) Higher level of role overload increases stress; 4)Higher level of stress increase needs for leaves; 5)Older child increases needs for flexible work pattern; 6)Younger child increases needs for finalcial assistance for child care fee; 7)needs for financial assistance for child care increases needs for on-site child care services; 8)needs for on-site child care services increases needs for leaves; 9)needs for leaves increases needs for flexible work pattern. With the exception of these 9 common relationships, the analyses revealed substantial differences between professional and blue-collar dual-earner wives. Based on the common and differential needs between 2 groups of wives, the effective ways to provide family-supportive services according to the needs of individual dual-earner wives who are in different familial, financial, and work conditions were suggested.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data needed for developing comprehensive child edu-care programs that fits the regional needs. Subjects of the survey were the teachers of child edu-care centers in Daejeon. 95 teachers were selected from 20 child edu-care centers, using stratified random sampling method, from all of five municipal districts of the city. Gathered data were analyzed using SPSS 10.0 for reliability, factor analysis, frequency and percentile, mean, standard deviation, paired samples t-test and F-test. The summary of the findings were as follows: First, the result of survey on the child edu-care facts showed that the most child edu-care centers had the focus on caring and education programs of children, while emotional supports for family services and community social services were rather secondary importance. Therefore, to achieve the comprehensive service programs, child edu-care services should be harmonized by the education and welfare approaches. Second, centered around teacher's request, comprehensive child edu-care program that fits the regional characteristics focuses on family service; thus the program requires family group consulting, parents education etc., as well as focusing on community service to utilize local community's human, physical resources and to strengthen the tie between local community and child care services.
