In this article, we investigate the solution of the inverse problem for one dimensional heat equation with Neumann and Robin boundary conditions, that is, we determine the temperature and source term with given initial and boundary conditions. Three radial basis functions(RBFs) have been used for numerical solution, and Homotopy perturbation method for analytic solution. Numerical solutions which are obtained by considering each of the three RBFs are compared to the exact solution. For appropriate value of shape parameter c, numerical solutions best approximates exact solutions. Furthermore, we have shown the impact of noisy data on the numerical solution of u and f.
A theoretical method is developed to analyze the free vibration of an elastic annular plate in contact with an ideal liquid. The displacement potential functions of the contained liquid are expressed as a combination of the Bessel functions that satisfy the Laplace equation and the liquid boundary conditions. The compatibility condition along the interface between the annular plate and the contained liquid is taken into account to consider the fluid-structure coupling. The dynamic displacement of the wet annular plate is assumed to be a combination of dry eigenfunctions, allowing for prediction of the natural frequencies using the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The study investigates the effect of radial liquid boundary conditions on the natural frequencies of the wet annular plate, considering four types of liquid bounding: outer container bounded, outer and inner bounded, inner bounded, and radially unbounded. The proposed theoretical method is validated by comparing the predicted wet natural frequencies with those obtained from finite element analysis, showing excellent accuracy. The results indicate that the radial liquid bounding effect on the natural frequencies is negligible for the axisymmetric vibrational mode, but relatively significant for the mode with one nodal diameter (n =1) and no nodal circle (m' = 0). Furthermore, the study reveals that the wet natural frequencies are the largest for the plate with an inner bounded cylinder among the radial liquid boundary cases, regardless of the vibration mode.
The NDIF method(non-dimensional dynamic influence function method) for free vibration analysis of arbitrarily shaped plates with the simply supported edge is newly developed in the paper. In order to extract the system matrix that gives the natural frequencies and natural modes of the plate of interest, the difficulty of measuring higher differential terms involved in the simply supported boundary condition is successfully overcome. Finally, the excellence of the characteristics of convergence and accuracy of the proposed method is shown through two verification examples, which indicate that natural frequencies and natural modes obtained by the proposed method are very accurate and swiftly converged even though a small number of nodes are used compared with FEM.
Because a change in the natural frequencies of a structure indicates structural health problems, monitoring the natural frequencies crucial. Long-term measurement for the Uldolmok tidal current power plant structure has shown that its natural frequencies fluctuate with a constant cycle twice a day. In this study, lab-scale tests to investigate the causes of these natural frequency fluctuations were carried out in a circulating water channel. Three independent variables in the tests that could affect the fluctuation of the natural frequencies were the water level, current velocity, and boundary condition between the specimen and the bottom of the circulating water channel. The experimental results were verified with numerical ones using ABAQUS. It was found that the fluctuation of the natural frequencies was governed by a decrease in stiffness due to the boundary condition much more than the effect of added mass. In addition, it was found that the natural frequency would decrease with an increase in the tidal current velocity because of its nonlinearity when the boundary condition was severely deteriorated due to damage.
A reference to natural prolongation appeared for the first time in the North Sea Judgement. Although it was not suggested that the concept of natural prolongation would automatically allow for the fixing of a continental shelf boundary, that concept encouraged States to request international tribunals to determine continental shelf boundaries on the basis of the geological and geomorphological features of the seabed. In the Libya v. Malta Case, however, the rejection of geological and geomorphological factors was total. Especially, Natural prolongation was the then checkmated as a relevant fact in delimitation between coasts situated less than 400 nm. apart. There can be no doubt that, in several disputed cases, prominent geomorphological variations are simply ignored ; nevertheless, there are also a few agreements where geological and geomorphological characteristics come into play and, to a certain extent, affect maritime boundaries. Physical characteristics of sea-bed are generally given serious consideration in the boundary delimitation such as the final negotiated boundary of the Australia-Indonesia Continental Shelf boundary Agreement(Timor and Arafura seas) which follows the continental slope bordering the Timor Trench.
An analytical method for linear free vibration of fully liquid-filled circular cylindrical shell with various boundary conditions is developed by the Fourier series expansion based on the Stokes' transformation. A set of modal displacement functions and their derivatives of a circular cylindrical shell is substituted into the Sanders' shell equations in order to explicitily represent the Fourier coefficients as functions of the end point displacements, forces, and moments. For the vibration relevant to the liquid motion, the velocity potential of liquid is assumed as a sum of linear combination of suitable harmonic functions in the axial directions. The unknown parameter of the velocity potential is selected to satisfy the boundary condition along the wetted shell surface. An explicit expression of the natural frequency equation can be obtained for any kind of classical boundary conditions. The natural frequencies of the liquid-filled cylindrical shells with the clamped-free, the clamped-clamped, and the simply supported-simply supported boundary conditions examined in the previous works, are obtained by the analytical method. The results are compared with the previous works, and excellent agreement is found for the natural frequencies of the shells.
This paper deals with the free vibrations of horizontally curved beams with the general boundary condition, which consists of translational and rotational springs. The equations of general boundary condition of such beams are derived, while the ordinary differential equations governing free vibrations are adopted from the literature. The parabola as the curved beam's curvilinear shape is considered in numerical examples. For calculating the natural frequencies, the governing equations are solved by numerical methods. The Runge-Kutta and Determinant Search Methods are used for integrating the differential equations and for calculating the natural frequencies, respectively. for validation purpose, the numerical results obtained herein are compared to those obtained from the SAP 2000. With regard to numerical results, the relationships between frequency parameters and various beam parameters are presented in the forms of Table and figures.
This paper investigate the optimum thickness distribution of plate structure with different essential boundary conditions in the fundamental natural frequency maximization problem. In this study, the fundamental natural frequency is considered as the objective function to be maximized and the initial volume of structures is used as the constraint function. The computer-aided geometric design (CAGD) such as Coon's patch representation is used to represent the thickness distribution of plates. A reliable degenerated shell finite element is adopted calculate the accurate fundamental natural frequency of the plates. Robust optimization algorithms implemented in the optimizer DoT are adopted to search optimum thickness values during the optimization iteration. Finally, the optimum thickness distribution with respect to different boundary condition
In this paper, we adapt a modified internal energy non-equilibrium first-order extrapolation thermal boundary condition to the thermal lattice Boltzmann model (TLBM). This model is the double populations approach to simulate hydrodynamic and thermal fields. The bounce-back boundary condition which is a traditional boundary condition of lattice Boltzmann method has only a first order in numerical accuracy at the boundary and numerical instability. A non-equilibrium first-order extrapolation boundary condition has been verified to be of better numerical stability than the bounce-back boundary condition and this boundary condition is proved to be of second-order accuracy for the flat boundaries. The two-dimensional natural convection flow in a square cavity with Pr=0.71 and various Rayleigh numbers are simulated. The results are found to be in good agreement with those of previous studies.
A new meshless method for obtaining natural frequencies of arbitrarily shaped plates with the free boundary condition is introduced in the paper. In order to improve the characteristics of convergence and accuracy of the method, a special local polar coordinates system is devised and located for each of nodes distributed along the boundary of the plate of interest. In addition, a new way of decreasing the size of the system matrix that gives natural frequencies of the plate is employed to reduce the amount of numerical calculations, which is needed for computing the determinant of the system matrix. Finally the excellence of the characteristics of convergence and accuracy of the method is shown in several case studies, which indicate that natural frequencies by the proposed method are very accurate and converged swiftly to exact values as the number of boundary nodes increases.
