  • The effects of compaction methods on the sintering density, microstructures, and mechanical properties were investigated in ${\alpha}-alumina$ ceramics. ${\alpha}-Alumina$ powders were granulated with a 10% aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Uniaxially pressed (UAP) and cold isostatic-pressed (CIP) samples were prepared by pressing uniaxially at a pressure of 1 ton for 1 min, and isostatically at 200 MPa for 15 min, respectively. Subsequently, both types of samples were sintered at $1,200^{\circ}C$, $1,300^{\circ}C$, $1,400^{\circ}C$, $1,450^{\circ}C$, $1,500^{\circ}C$, $1,550^{\circ}C$, and $1,600^{\circ}C$ at a rate of $5^{\circ}C/min$ for 2 h. The CIP samples were better than the UAP samples for all properties measured, such as the sintering density, Vicker's hardness, and toughness. The CIP sample sintered at $1,400^{\circ}C$ showed the maximum Vicker's hardness and toughness; this may be attributed to the competing effects of a decrease in porosity and the growth of grains with increasing sintering temperature.

  • In the era of Fifth-Generation (5G), technology requirements such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud computing, automatic vehicles, and smart manufacturing are increasing. For high efficiency of electronic devices, research on high-intensity circuits and packaging for miniaturized electronic components is important. A solder paste which consists of small solder powders is one of common solder for high density packaging, whereas an electroplated solder has limitation of uniformity of bump composition. Researches are underway to improve wettability through the addition of nanoparticles into a solder paste or the surface finish of a substrate, and to suppress the formation of IMC growth at the metal pad interface. This paper describes the principles of improving the wettability of solder paste and suppressing interfacial IMC growth by addition of nanoparticles.

  • The Rapid Prototyping (RP) technology has advanced in many application areas. In this research, implantable Drug Delivery System (DDS) was fabricated by an RP system, Nano Composite Deposition System (NCDS). The DDS composite consists of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), as drug particles, and PLGA85/15 as biodegradable polymer matrix. To have larger surface area, the DDS was fabricated in a scaffold shape, and its degradation was tested in vitro environment. Biocompatible Hydroxyapatite (HA) powders were added to the drug-polymer composite in order to control drug release. Test results showed a possibility of controlled release of scaffold DDS over 50 days.

  • Silicon carbide is one of the most attractive and promising wide band-gap semiconductor material with excellent physical properties and huge potential for electronic applications. Up to now, the most successful method for growth of large SiC crystals with high quality is the physical vapor transport (PVT) method [1, 2]. Since further reduction of defect densities in larger crystal are needed for the true implementation of SiC devices, many researchers are focusing to improve the quality of SiC single crystal through the process modifications for SiC bulk growth or new material implementations [3, 4]. It is well known that for getting high quality SiC crystal, source materials with high purity must be used in PVT method. Among various source materials in PVT method, a SiC powder is considered to take an important role because it would influence on crystal quality of SiC crystal as well as optimum temperature of single crystal growth, the growth rate and doping characteristics. In reality, the effect of powder on SiC crystal could definitely exhibit the complicated correlation. Therefore, the present research was focused to investigate the quality difference of SiC crystal grown by conventional PVT method with using various SiC powders. As shown in Fig. 1, we used three SiC powders with different particles size. The 6H-SiC crystals were grown by conventional PVT process and the SiC seeds and the high purity SiC source materials are placed on opposite side in a sealed graphite crucible which is surrounded by graphite insulation[5, 6]. The bulk SiC crystal was grown at $2300^{\circ}C$ of the growth temperature and 50mbar of an argon pressure. The axial thermal gradient across the SiC crystal during the growth is estimated in the range of $15\sim20^{\circ}C/cm$. The chemical etch in molten KOH maintained at $450^{\circ}C$ for 10 min was used for defect observation with a polarizing microscope in Nomarski mode. Electrical properties of bulk SiC materials were measured by Hall effect using van der Pauw geometry and a UV/VIS spectrophotometer. Fig. 2 shows optical photographs of SiC crystal ingot grown by PVT method and Table 1 shows electrical properties of SiC crystals. The electrical properties as well as crystal quality of SiC crystals were systematically investigated.

  • Mechanical alloying was carried out to produce $CrSi_2$ thermoelectric compound using a mixture of elemental $Cr_{33}Si_{67}$ powders. An optimal milling and heat treatment conditions to obtain the single phase of $CrSi_2$ compound with fine microstructure were investigated by X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry measurement. $CrSi_2$ intermetallic compound with a grain size of 70 nm could be obtained by MA of $Cr_{33}Si_{67}$ powders for 70 hours and subsequently annealed at $650^{\circ}C$. Consolidation of the MA powders was performed in a spark plasma sintering (SPS) machine using graphite dies at $600{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$ under 60 MPa. The shrinkage of MA samples during SPS consolidation process increased gradually with increasing temperature up to $1000^{\circ}C$ and relatively significant at about $600^{\circ}C$. We tend to believe that these behaviors are deeply related to form a $CrSi_2$ compound during heating process, as can be realized from the DSC measurement. Electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient of sintered bodies were measured up to $900^{\circ}C$. Seebeck coefficient and power factor of $Cr_{33}Si_{67}$ compact prepared by MA and SPS at $1000^{\circ}C$ showed the maximum value of $125{\mu}V/K$ at $400^{\circ}C$ and $4.3{\times}10^{-4}W/mK^2$ at $350^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • Ultra-fine $Co_{1+x}$F $e_{2-}$2x/ $Ti_{x}$ $O_4$ferrite powders have been prepared by the sol-gel method. The crystallographic and magnetic properties of the sample have been investigated by means of x-ray diffraction, Mossbauer spetroscopy and vibrating sample magnetometry. The formation of nano crystallized particles is confirmed. The x-ray diffractions of all samples with various compositions clearly indicate the presence of spinel structure. The Mossbauer spectra could be fitted as the superposition of two sextets due to F $e^{3+}$ A-site and B-site. The IS and QS values nearly constant with substituted Co-Ti contents, whereas $H_{hf}$ of B-site decreases with increasing Co-Ti substitution in $Co_{1+x}$F $e_{2-}$2x/ $Ti_{x}$ $O_4$. The magnetic behaviour of powders shows that the saturation magnetization and the coercivity decrease with increasing x in $Co_{1+x}$F $e_{2-}$2x/ $Ti_{x}$ $O_4$.$.X>.

  • Carbon-coated $Li_2MnSiO_4$ powders as the active materials for the cathode were synthesized by planetary ball milling and solid-state reaction, and their phase formation behavior and charge-discharge properties were investigated. Calcination temperature and atmosphere were controlled in order to obtain the ${\beta}-Li_2MnSiO_4$ phase, which was active electrochemically, and the carbon-coated $Li_2MnSiO_4$ active material powders with near single phase ${\beta}-Li_2MnSiO_4$ could be fabricated. The particles of the synthesized powders were secondary particles composed of primary ones of about 100 nm size. The carbon incorporation was essential to enable the Li ions to be inserted and extracted from $Li_2MnSiO_4$ active materials, and the initial capacity of 192 mAh/g could be obtained in the $Li_2MnSiO_4$ active materials with 4.8 wt% of carbon.

  • In the field of makeup cosmetics, especially, powder-based foundations such as two-way cake, pact and face powder, the quality of which is known to be strongly influenced by the properties of powder, surface treatment technology is widely used as a method to improve the various characteristics of powder texture, wear properties, dispersion ability and so on. The two-way cake or pressed-powder foundation is one of the familiar makeup products in Asian market for deep covering and finishing purpose. In spite of the relent progress in surface modification method such as composition of powders with different characteristics and application of a diversity of coating ingredient (metal soap, amino acid, silicone and fluorine), this product possess a technical difficulty to enhance both of the adhesion power and spreadability on the skin in addition to potential claim of consumer about heavy or thick feeling. This article is covering the preparation and coating method of nano-vesicle that mimic the double-layered lipid lamellar structure existing between the corneocytes of the stratum corneum in the skin for the purpose of improving both of two important physical characteristic of two-way cake, spreadability and adhering force to skin, and obtining better affinity to skin. Nano-vesicle was prepared using the high-pressure emulsifying process of lecithin, pseudo ceramide, butylene glycol and tocopheryl acetate. This nano-sized emulsion was added to powder-dispersed aqueous phase together with bivalent metal salt solution and then the filtering and drying procedure was followed to yield the nano-vesicle coated powder. The amount of nano-vesicle coated on the powder was able to regulated by the concentration of metal salt and this novel powder showed the lower friction coefficient, more uniform condition of application and higher adhesive powder comparing with the alkyl silane treated powder from the test result of spreadability and wear properties using friction meter and air jet method. Two-wav cake containing newly developed coated powder with nano-vesicle showed the similar advantages in the frictional and adhesive characteristics.

  • In this study, a case study was conducted on Advanced Nano Products Co.,Ltd, a company that was established in 2000 and has the core technology to produce and commercialize nano materials and ultrafine nano powders based on nano technology. Deviating from the general case study, a case study analysis frame was set based on the theory of technology management and industry-university cooperation theory, and cases were analyzed. In this case study, Advanced Nano Products Co.,Ltd. was analyzed from two analytical perspectives: the establishment of a Management Of Technology system within the company and the Industry-Academic Cooperation activity. Based on this theoretical-based analysis framework, company visit interviews and related data research and analysis were conducted. As a result of the study of the case company, it was possible to derive how the technology management and industry-university cooperation affect the growth stage of the company as follows. First, the strategic use of technology management is an important factor in strengthening the competitive advantage and core competencies of venture companies, and for survival and growth of startups in the early stages. Second, strategic use of technology management and patents and establishment of a patent management system are a part of business strategy and play a pivotal role in corporate performance. Third, the human and material infrastructure of universities affects the growth of companies in the early stage of start-up, and the high utilization of industry-university cooperation promotes the growth of companies. Fourth, continuous industry-academic cooperation activities in the growth and maturity stages of a company's growth stage are the basis for activating external exchanges and building networks. Lastly, technology management and industry-university cooperation were found to be growth factors for each growth stage of a company. In order for a company to develop continuously from the start-up to the growth and maturity stages, it is necessary to establish a technology management system from the beginning and promote strategic technology management activities. In addition, it can be said that it is important to carry out various industry-academic cooperation activities outside the company. As a result of the case analysis, it was found that Advanced Nano Products Co.,Ltd, which performed these two major activities well, overcame the crisis step by step and continued to grow until now. • A magnetic powder, M-type barium hexaferrite (BaFe12O19), was consolidated with the spark plasma sintering process. Three different holding temperatures, $850^{\circ}C$, $875^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$ were applied to the spark plasma sintering process with the same holding times, heating rates and compaction pressure of 30 MPa. The relative density was measured simultaneously with spark plasma sintering and the convergent relative density after cooling was found to be proportional to the holding temperature. The full relative density was obtained at $900^{\circ}C$ and the total sintering time was only 33.3 min, which was much less than the conventional furnace sintering method. The higher holding temperature also led to the higher saturation magnetic moment (${\sigma}_s$) and the higher coercivity ($H_c$) in the vibrating sample magnetometer measurement. The saturation magnetic moment (${\sigma}_s$) and the coercivity ($H_c$) obtained at $900^{\circ}C$ were 56.3 emu/g and 541.5 Oe for each.
