  • Epoxy matrix based composites were fabricated by adding SiC nano fillers. The interfacial properties of composites were varied with different shapes of SiC nano fillers. To investigate the shape effects on the interfacial properties, beta and whisker type SiC nano fillers were used for this evaluation. The dispersion states of nano SiC-epoxy nanocomposites were evaluated by capacitance measurements. FE-SEM was used to observe the fracture surface of different structures of SiC-epoxy nanocomposites and to investigate for reinforcement effect. Interfacial properties between carbon fiber and SiC-epoxy nanocomposites were also evaluated by ILSS (interlaminar shear strength) and IFSS (interfacial shear strength) tests. The interfacial adhesion of beta type nanocomposites was better than whisker type.

  • Si-carbon composites as anode materials for lithium rechargeable batteries were prepared simply by mixing Si nanoparticles with carbon black and/or graphite through a solution process. Si nanoparticles were well dispersed and deposited on the surface of the carbon in a tetrahydrofuran solution. Si-carbon composites showed more than 700 mAh/g of initial capacity under less than 20% loading of Si nanoparticle in the composites. While the electrode with only Si nanoparticles showed fast capacity fading during continuous cycling, Si-carbon composite electrodes showed higher capacities. The cycle performances of Si nanoparticles in composites containing graphite were improved due to the role of the graphite as a matrix.

  • The technology of rapid prototyping (RP) is used for design verification, function test and fabrication of prototype. The current issues in RP are improvement in accuracy and application of various materials. In this paper, a hybrid rapid prototyping system is introduced which can fabricate nano composites using various materials. This hybrid system adopts RP and machining process, so material deposition and removal is performed at the same time in a single station. As examples, micro gears and a composite scaffold were fabricated using photo cured polymer with nano powders such as carbon black and hydroxyapatite. From the micro gear samples the hybrid RP technology showed higher precision than those made by casting or deposition process.

  • A epoxy/multilayered silicate nanocomposite was prepared by a new AC electric application method and micro silica particle was poured into the nanocomposite in order to prepare epoxy/micro-and-nano- mixed composites (EMNC). Electric insulation breakdown strength was measured in a sphere-sphere electrode system designed for the prevention of edge breakdown and the data were estimated by Weibull plot. As the exfoliated silicate nano-plates were homogeniously dispersed in the micro silica particles, the insulation property was higherd.

  • This study investigates the thermal and mechanical properties of insulation elements through the mixing of epoxy based micro and nano particles. Regarding their thermal properties, differential scanning calorimeter and dynamic mechanical analyser were used to calculate the cross-linking densities for various types of insulation elements. The mechanical properties of the bending strength, the shape and scale parameters, were obtained using the Weibull plot. This study obtained the best results in the scale parameters, at 0.5 phr, for the bending strength of the epoxy nano-and-micro mixture composites.

  • Recently, with the increase of demand of electricity, electric cable or electric transfer machine are rapidly developed and meet the demand with the extra high voltage and massive capacity, the dangers of electrical accident of insulator are increasing by the electric stress, insulation degradation and insulation breakdown in insulator. In this paper, it is investigated that the temperature dependance of dielectric strength in nano-composites. We obtained that breakdown voltage of 0.4 [wt%] specimens is higher than the other $SiO_2$ content.

  • Alizarin dye, a persistent and hazardous contaminant in aquatic environments, presents a pressing environmental concern. In the quest for efficient removal methods, adsorption has emerged as a versatile and sustainable approach. This study focuses on the development and application of Zinc Oxide/Nickel Oxide (ZnO/NiO) nano-composites as adsorbents for alizarin dye removal. These semiconducting metal oxide nano-composites exhibit synergistic properties, offering enhanced adsorption capabilities. Key parameters affecting alizarin removal, such as contact time, adsorbent dosage, pH, and temperature, were systematically investigated. Notably, the ZnO/NiO nano-composite demonstrated superior performance, with a maximum alizarin removal percentage of 76.9 % at pH 6. The adsorption process followed a monolayer pattern, as suggested by the Langmuir model. The pseudo-second-order kinetics model provided a good fit to the experimental data. Thermodynamic analysis indicated that the process is endothermic and thermodynamically favorable. These findings underscore the potential of ZnO/NiO nano-composites as effective and sustainable adsorbents for alizarin dye removal, with promising applications in wastewater treatment and environmental remediation.

  • The polymer nano composite possess good priority recently for engineering applications. Especially the electrical insulating materials attract the high performance of nano composites. In this work the ballmill synthesiation process of nano sized Alumina ($Al_2O_3$), the preparation of new nano composite material with an content of enamel and synthesized Alumina as 1wt%, 3wt% and 5wt%. Experimental investigation has been carried out for the prepared nano composites materials with respect to dielectric parameter measurements such as dielectric loss (tan ${\delta}$), dielectric constant (${\varepsilon}$), dielectric strength under various temperature. The partial discharge level also measured for all the samples and the PD inception voltage is also observed and compared. Weight loss of the material has been analyzed through TGA. It has been experimentally proved that 3wt% of Alumina nano filler added enamel has significant improvement in the dielectric and thermal properties.

  • Background: The objective of this study was to make colloidal dispersions of the active compounds of radix of Angelica gigas Nakai that could be charaterized as nano-composites using hot melt extrusion (HME). Food grade hydrophilic polymer matrices were used to disperse these compound in aqueous media. Methods and Results: Extrudate solid formulations (ESFs) mediated by various HPMCs (hydroxypropyl methylcelluloses) and Na-Alg polymers made from ultrafine powder of the radix of Angelica gigas Nakai were developed through a physical crosslink method (HME) using an ionization agent (treatment with acetic acid) and different food grade polymers [HPMCs, such as HP55, CN40H, AN6 and sodium alignate (Na-Alg)]. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the amorphization of crystal compounds in the HP55-mediated extrudate solid formulation (HP55-ESF). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis indicated a lower enthalpy (${\Delta}H=10.62J/g$) of glass transition temperature (Tg) in the HP55-ESF than in the other formulations. Infrared fourier transform spectroscopy (FT-IR) revealed that new functional groups were produced in the HP55-ESF. The content of phenolic compounds, flavonoid (including decursin and decursinol angelate) content, and antioxidant activity increased by 5, 10, and 2 times in the HP55-ESF, respectively. The production of water soluble (61.5%) nano-sized (323 nm) particles was achieved in the HP55-ESF. Conclusions: Nano-composites were developed herein utilizing melt-extruded solid dispersion technology, including food grade polymer enhanced nano dispersion (< 500 nm) of active compounds from the radix of Angelica gigas Nakai with enhanced solubility and bioavailability. These nano-composites of the radix of Angelica gigas Nakai can be developed and marketed as products with high therapeutic performance.
