  • In this study, SWAT model was applied to the Soyang Dam upstream watershed in order to evaluate the model applicability for estimating runoff, sediment, and nutrients loadings from the watershed. By trial and error method, the model parameters related with runoff, sediment, nitrogen and phosphorus were calibrated step by step. Then the simulated runoff, sediment, and nutrients loadings by the model were compared with the observed data measured at the Soyang Dam, the outlet of the watershed. And several statistical criteria were calculated to evaluate the model performance. From the comparison and statistical criteria, good agreement between simulated and observed stream flows was found. For sediment and nutrients, it was not reliable to quantitatively model the observed values, but the model could simulate the trend with reasonable accuracy. Hence, it was concluded that the model can be applied for the long-term non-point modeling in a large watershed.

  • A method of estimating pollutant delivery ratios considering watershed physical and meteorological characteristics and flow conditions using SWAT-K watershed model was described, and pollutant delivery characteristics during dry and rainy seasons, for monthly and seasonally, and with flow regimes were investigated for the Chungju dam watershed. Delivery ratios for sediment, T-N, and T-P showed higher values over 100% during dry and winter seasons with low pollutant loads and flows, and showed relatively uniform ones under 100% during rainy and summer seasons with concentrated loads and flows. It was found that mainly wet flows during summer seasons played very important roles in investigating the delivery characteristics of total or nonpoint pollutant loads, because more than 90% of total loads were influenced by nonpoint source, and discharged with the flows. From the results, we could find out the delivery characteristics with various watershed and flow conditions which are difficult to consider by actual measurement, and could get a foothold of estimating more reasonable and scientific allocated loads for water quality standard using the reliable method of estimating delivery ratios with a watershed model.

  • To provide variation of water supply for instream flow from reservoirs with various magnifications of paddy irrigation area to watershed area, 8 reservoirs were selected to draw operation rule curve and to analyze water supplies from reservoirs. Reliability of 90% for supplying irrigation water from reservoir was able to maintain and instream flow water was able to be supplied only in the reservoir with magnification of paddy irrigation area to watershed area above 3. The more magnification of paddy irrigation area to watershed area increased, the more ratio of irrigation water to total water storage decreased, and the more ratio of instream flow water to total water storage increased. From the heightening 113 reservoirs in Korea, annual irrigation water was estimated to 1,146.05 $Mm^3$ in normal operation, 839.57 $Mm^3$ in withdrawal limited operation, and annual instream flow water was estimated to 149.68 $Mm^3$ in normal operation, 283.19 $Mm^3$ in withdrawal limited operation. It was concluded that withdrawal limited operation was followed to have the premise of saving irrigation water, more instream flow water was able to be supplied from reservoirs with high magnification of paddy irrigation area to watershed area.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the applicability of SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model for runoff estimation in the Nam river dam watershed. Input data for the SWAT model were established using spatial data (land use, soil, digital elevation map) and weather data. The SWAT model was calibrated and validated using observed runoff data from 2003 to 2014 for three stations (Sancheong, Shinan, Changchon) within the study watershed. The $R^2$ (Determination Coefficient), RMSE (Root Mean Square Error), NSE (Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient), and RMAE (Relative Mean Absolute Error) were used to evaluate the model performance. Parameters for runoff calibration were selected based on user's manual and references and trial and error method was applied for parameter calibration. Calibration results showed that annual mean runoff were within ${\pm}5%$ error compared to observed. $R^2$ were ranged 0.64 ~ 0.75, RMSE were 2.51 ~ 4.97 mm/day, NSE were 0.48 ~ 0.65, and RMAE were 0.34 ~ 0.63 mm/day for daily runoff, respectively. The runoff comparison for three stations showed that annual runoff was higher in Changchon especially summer and winter seasons. The flow exceedance graph showed that Sancheong and Shinan stations were similar while Changchon was higher in entire fraction.

  • To provide the basic information for the water quality management of the Sumjin River Basin, delivery ratios for flow duration were studied. Using the day-interval data set of discharge and water quality observed from the Chooryeong-cheon watershed, the flow-duration and discharge-load relation curves for the watershed were established, then the load-duration curve was constructed. Delivery ratios for flow duration were also developed. Delivery ratios showed wide variation according to flow conditions. In general, delivery ratio of high flow condition showed higher value reflecting nonpoint source pollution contribution from the forest dominating watershed. To resolve this problem, a regression model explaining the relation between flow rate and delivery ratio was suggested. The delivery ratios for different flow regime could be used for pollutant load estimation and TMDL (Total maximum daily load) development.

  • This study is to suggest the SWAT model as inputs for the estimation of CN (Curve number) if we do not have hourly rainfall and runoff data in the ungaged watershed. The daily CNs were estimated by using SWAT model for Chungju dam watershed and the CNs by hourly rainfall and runoff data in the same period with daily CN estimation were also estimated. Then the daily and hourly CNs were compared each other. The CNs by SWAT model were larger than the actual CNs. 7.4% larger in AMC-I, 1.2% in AMC-II, and 6.3% in AMC-III respectively. If we consider various uncertainties in the estimation of CN, the error of 6.8% could be acceptable for the application in the field.

  • This study is to present the method for estimating groundwater recharge with temporal-spatial variability using the SWAT model which can represent the heterogeneity of the watershed. The SWAT model can simulate daily surface runoff, evapotranspiration, soil storage, recharge, and groundwater flow within the watershed. The model was applied to Musimcheon watershed located in the upstream of Mihocheon watershed. Hydrological components were determined for the period 2001 - 2004, and the validity of the results was tested by comparing the estimated runoff with the observed runoff data at the outlet of the catchment. The results of temporal and spatial variations of recharge were presented, This study suggests that variations in recharge can be significantly affected by subbasin slope as well as land use changes.

  • In this study, it has observed the precipitation and stage data at each point every ten minutes for gaining the sustainable, reliable and high-quality hydrological data through operating the experimental watershed in mountainous areas such as Gyecheon located in the upstream of Seom river that is the tributary of Nam-Han river. And it has regularly surveyed the runoff and verified the reliability of data using the uncertainty analysis at the gaging station. So, this study has developed the stage-discharge curve(rating curve) and these results are expected to be used as fundamental data for analyzing the circulation of water through surveying evapotranspiration, soil moisture and level of groundwater in watershed.

  • Hydrologic component analysis was conducted to investigate water budget characteristics the Oedocheon watershed, Jeju Island. For this purpose, integrated SWAT-MODFLOW model was applied to this watershed for continuous surface water-groundwater modeling. Pasture and forest-deciduous are the major land use types and these affect general hydrologic component ratio. The spatio-temporal groundwater recharge can be obtained from SWAT and then distributed groundwater recharge can be reproduced by MODFLOW. The groundwater level variation was simulated with distributed groundwater pumping data. The water budget in this watershed was compared with the previous estimated result by Jeju-Do(2013). As this result considered discharge to the coastal side, the discrepancy was found. However, it was found that the overall tendency of both analyses were similar.

  • Off-line handwritten character recognition is in difficulty of incomplete preprocessing because it has not dynamic and timing information besides has various handwriting, extreme overlap of the consonant and vowel and many error image of stroke. Consequently off-line handwritten character recognition needs to study about preprocessing of various methods such as binarization and thinning. This paper considers running time of watershed algorithm and the quality of resulting image as preprocessing For off-line handwritten Korean character recognition. So it proposes application of effective watershed algorithm for segmentation of character region and background region in gray level character image and segmentation function for binarization image and segmentation function for binarization by extracted watershed image. Besides it proposes thinning methods which effectively extracts skeleton through conditional test mask considering running time and quality. of skeleton, estimates efficiency of existing methods and this paper's methods as running time and quality. Watershed image conversion uses prewitt operator for gradient image conversion, extracts local minima considering 8-neighborhood pixel. And methods by using difference of mean value is used in region merging step, Converted watershed image by means of this methods separates effectively character region and background region applying to segmentation function. Average execution time on the previous method was 2.16 second and on this paper method was 1.72 second. We prove that this paper's method removed noise effectively with overlap stroke as compared with the previous method.
