  • Queries on XML are based on paths in the data graph, which is represented as an edge labeled graph model. All proposed query languages for XML express queries using regular expressions to traverse arbitrary paths in the data graph. A meaningful query usually has several regular path expressions in it, but much of recent research is more concerned with optimizing a single path expression. In this paper, we present an efficient technique to process multiple path expressions in a query. We developed a data structure named as the path identifier(PID) to identify whether two given nodes lie on the fame path in the data graph or not, and utilized the PID for efficient processing of multiple path expressions. We implement our technique and present preliminary performance results.

  • This paper considers Japanese political interviews to integrate conversation and facial expression analysis. The behaviors of political leaders will be disclosed by analyzing questions and responses by using the turn-taking system in conversation analysis. Additionally, audiences who cannot understand verbal expressions alone will understand the psychology of political leaders by analyzing their facial expressions. Integral analyses promote understanding of the types of facial and verbal expressions of politicians and their effect on public opinion. Politicians have unique techniques to convince people. If people do not know these techniques and ways of various expressions, they will become confused, and politics may fall into populism as a result. To avoid this, a complete understanding of verbal and non-verbal behaviors is needed. This paper presents two analyses. The first analysis is a qualitative analysis that deals with Prime Minister Shinzō Abe and shows that differences between words and happy facial expressions occur. That result indicates that Abe expresses disgusted facial expressions when faced with the same question from an interviewer. The second is a quantitative multiple regression analysis where the dependent variables are six facial expressions: happy, sad, angry, surprised, scared, and disgusted. The independent variable is when politicians have a threat to face. Political interviews that directly inform audiences are used as a tool by politicians. Those interviews play an important role in modelling public opinion. The audience watches political interviews, and these mold support to the party. Watching political interviews contributes to the decision to support the political party when they vote in a coming election.

  • As XML has become an emerging standard for information exchange on the World Wide Web, it has gained attention in database communities to extract information from XML seen as a database model. XML queries are based on regular path queries, which find objects reachable by given regular expressions. To answer many kinds of user queries, it is necessary to evaluate queries that have multiple regular path expressions. However, previous work such as query rewriting and query optimization in the frame work of semistructured data has dealt with a single regular expression. For queries that have multiple regular expressions we suggest a two phase optimizing technique: 1. query rewriting using views by finding the mappings from the view's body to the query's body and 2. for rewritten queries, evaluating each query conjunct and combining them. We show that our rewriting algorithm is sound and our query evaluation technique is more efficient than the previous work on optimizing semistructured queries.

  • Infections involving Echinostoma hortense (E. hortense) are considered to more severe than infections caused by other heterophyids. Although parasite expulsion by host immune responses attenuates the symptoms of infection, the detailed mechanisms of the host immune response need to be determined, especially in local immune responses involving cytokine and immunoglobulin expressions. We infected BALB/c mice with E. hortense and examined recovery rates together with expressions of multiple cytokines and immunoglobulins in the villi and crypts of the small intestine using immunohistochemistry. We observed a close correlation between worm expulsion rates and cytokine/immunoglobulin expressions in E. hortense infected mice. This study contributes to an understanding of the relationship between the immune response and parasite expulsion in hosts.

  • Regular path expressions are primary elements for formulating queries over the semistructured data that does not assume the conventional schemas. In addition, the query pruning is an important optimization technique to avoid useless traversals in evaluating regular path expressions. However, the existing query pruning often fails to fully optimize multiple regular path expressions, and the previous methods that post-process the result of the existing query pruning must check exponential combinations of sub-results. In this paper, we present a new query pruning technique that consists of the preprocessing phase and the pruning phase. Our two-phase query pruning is affective in optimizing multiple regular path expressions, and is more scalable than the previous methods in that it never check the exponential combinations of sub-results.

  • We propose a class of hierarchical Bayes estimators of the error variance under the relative squared error loss in balanced fixed-effects two-way analysis of variance models. Also we provide analytic expressions for the risk improvement of the hierarchical Bayes estimators over multiples of the error sum of squares. Using these expressions we identify a subclass of the hierarchical Bayes estimators each member of which dominates the best multiple of the error sum of squares which is known to be minimax. Numerical values of the percentage risk improvement are given in some special cases.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the image perception of modern fashion according to erotic expressions ans erotic levels. The research methods werea quasi-experimental research. The experimental materials developed for the study were a set of stimuli and a responsse scale. The stimuli was consisted of 15 photographs according to erotic expressions and erotic levels. The reponse scale consisted of semantic differential scales. The subjects consisted of 254 male and 260 female undergraduate students of Chungnam National University by a convenient sampling method. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test and t-test. Result were as follows ; 1) The fashion image of erotic experessions and levels, were categorized into 3 images factors : sexy-potency, modesty, attractiveness. 2) The erotic expressions significantly affected on three image factors 3) The erotic levels showed significant differences in three image dimensions and stronger erotic levels pressented more sexy-potency, less models and attractive images. 4) The erotic expressions showed interaction effects with the erotic levels in three image dimensions. 5) Subject's gender had a significant difference on fashion image perception : male subjects perceived the fashion photographs more attractive than female subjects did.

  • Closed-form expressions for capacity bounds of multiuser diversity combined with maximum ratio transmission (MRT) and maximum ratio combining (MRC) at each link are presented under the assumption of independent and quasi-static flat multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Rayleigh fading channels. The analysis results precisely agree with the numerical verification results and clearly show the impact of MRT/MRC on multiuser diversity.

  • This paper demonstrates improved throughput and energy efficiency of wireless communications by exploiting nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA), multiple input-multiple output (MIMO), and radio frequency energy harvesting (EH) technologies. To assess the performance of NOMA MIMO communications with EH (MMe), we consider the nonlinear characteristics of EH devices and propose explicit expressions for throughput and outage probability. Based on our results, the system performance is significantly mitigated by EH nonlinearity and is considerably improved by increasing the number of antennas. Additionally, by appropriately adjusting the system parameters, our NOMA MMe innovation can avert complete outages while optimizing system performance. Moreover, the results demonstrate the superiority of the NOMA MMe over its orthogonal multiple access MMe counterparts.

  • In this paper, diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) of three-user wireless multiple-antenna cooperative systems is investigated in general fading channels when half-duplex and decode-and-forward relay is employed. Three protocols, i.e., adaptive protocol, receive diversity protocol, and dual-hop relaying protocol, are considered. The general fading channels may include transmit and/or receive correlation and nonzero channel means, and are extensions of independent and identically distributed Rayleigh or Rician fading channels. Firstly, simple DMT expressions are derived for general fading channels with zero channel means and no correlation when users employ arbitrary number of antennas. Explicit DMT expressions are also obtained when all users employ the same number of antennas and the channels between any two users are of the same fading statistics. Finally, the impact of nonzero channel means and/or correlation on DMT is evaluated. It is revealed theoretically that the DMTs depend on the number of antennas at each user, channel means (except for Rayleigh and Rician fading statistics), transmit and/or receive correlation, and the polynomial behavior near zero of the channel gain probability density function. Examples are also provided to illustrate the analysis and results.
