Volumetric Capacitance of In-Plane- and Out-of-Plane-Structured Multilayer Graphene Supercapacitors

  • A graphene electrode with a novel in-plane structure is proposed and successfully adopted for use in supercapacitor applications. The in-plane structure allows electrolyte ions to interact with all the graphene layers in the electrode, thereby maximizing the utilization of the electrochemical surface area. This novel structure contrasts with the conventional out-of-plane stacked structure of such supercapacitors. We herein compare the volumetric capacitances of in-plane- and out-of-plane-structured devices with reduced multi-layer graphene oxide films as electrodes. The in-plane-structured device exhibits a capacitance 2.5 times higher (i.e., $327F\;cm^{-3}$) than that of the out-of-plane-structured device, in addition to an energy density of $11.4mWh\;cm^{-3}$, which is higher than that of lithium-ion thin-film batteries and is the highest among in-plane-structured ultra-small graphene-based supercapacitors reported to date. Therefore, this study demonstrates the potential of in-plane-structured supercapacitors with high volumetric performances as ultra-small energy storage devices.

Glass Frit의 입도가 MLCC 외부전극 Paste의 소결거동에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Glass Frit Size on the Sintering Behavior of Cu Termination Paste in MLCC)

  • Multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) have continually been made smaller in size and larger in capacity in resent years. However, the end termination electrode is still thick in many MLCCs. In this study, we used small grain glass frit to embody thin film and highly densification in the end termination by improve sintering driving force with well-dispersion and rising surface energy. Pastes were fabricated using size changed glass frit, such as 0.1 ${\mu}m$, 0.5 ${\mu}m$, 1.0 ${\mu}m$, 4.0 ${\mu}m$. Fabricated pastes were applied 05A475KQ5 chip and fired various sintering temperatures to analyze sintering behavior of pastes. Consequently, small glass frit used pastes have many merits than larger, such as well-dispersion, improve cornercoverage and surface roughness, possibility of low temperature sintering. However, we confirmed that small glass frit used pastes have narrow sintering window by rapid completion of sintering densification.

Light Scattering Amplification on Dye Sensitized Solar Cells Assembled by Hollyhock-shaped CdS-TiO2 Composites

  • To investigate the scattering layer effect of a $TiO_2$ multilayer in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), we designed a new DSSC system, assembled with a CdS-$TiO_2$ scattering layer electrode. A high-magnification SEM image exhibited hollyhock-like particles with a width of 1.5-2.0 ${\mu}m$ that were aggregated into 10-nm clumps in a hexagonal petal shape. The efficiency was higher in the DSSC assembled with a CdS-$TiO_2$ scattering layer than in the DSSC assembled with $TiO_2$-only layers, due to the decreased resistance in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The short-circuit current density ($J_{sc}$) was increased by approximately 7.26% and the open-circuit voltage ($V_{oc}$) by 2.44% over the 1.0 wt % CdS-$TiO_2$ composite scattering layer and the incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency (IPCE) in the maximum peak was also enhanced by about 5.0%, compared to the DSSC assembled without the CdS-$TiO_2$scattering layer.

Improvement of the luminous efficiency of organic light emitting diode using LiF anode buffer layer

  • The multilayer structure of the organic light emitting diode has merits of improving interfacial characteristics and helping carriers inject into emission layer and transport easier. There are many reports to control hole injection from anode electrode by using transition metal oxide as an anode buffer layer, such as V2O5, MoO3, NiO, and Fe3O4. In this study, we apply thin films of LiF which is usually inserted as a thin buffer layer between electron transport layer(ETL) and cathode, as an anode buffer layer to reduce the hole injection barrier height from ITO. The thickness of LiF as an anode buffer layer is tested from 0 nm to 1.0 nm. As shown in the figure 1 and 2, the luminous efficiency versus current density is improved by LiF anode buffer layer, and the threshold voltage is reduced when LiF buffer layer is increased up to 0.6 nm then the device does not work when LiF thickness is close to 1.0 nm As a result, we can confirm that the thin layer of LiF, about 0.6 nm, as an anode buffer reduces the hole injection barrier height from ITO, and this results the improved luminous efficiency. This study shows that LiF can be used as an anode buffer layer for improved hole injection as well as cathode buffer layer.

  • In this paper, the electric properties of amophous selenium multilayer samples has been investigated. In order to develop the hybrid flat-panel digital· X-ray image detector, we measured and analyzed their performance parameters such as the X -ray sensitivity and dark-current for a amophous selenium multilayers X-ray detector with a phosphor layer, The hybrid digital X-ray image detector can be constructed by integrating a phosphor layer (or a scintillative layer) that convert X-ray to a light on a-Se photoconduction mulilayers that convert a light to electrical signal. As results, the dielectric materials such as parylene between the phosphor layer and the top electrode may reduce the dark-current of the samples. Amorphous selenium multilayers having dielectric layer(parylene) has characteristics of low dark-current, high X-ray sensitivity. So we can acquired a enhanced signal to noise ratio. In this paper offer the method can reduce the dark-current in the hybrid X-ray detector.

(Ba1-xCax)(Ti1-yZry)O3 Powder Synthesis Via Hydrothermal Treatment

  • $(Ba_{1-x}Ca_x)(Ti_{1-y}Zr_y)O_3(BCTZ)$ powders for the Ni-electrode Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor(MLCC) were synthesized via hydrothermal treatment using mixed aqueous solutions of $BaCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O,\Ca(NO_3)2{\cdot}4H_2O,\ ZrOCl_2{\cdot}8H_2O$ and $TiCl_4$. Two component and three component systems were also extensively studied for basic data. BT, CT and BZ powders were crystalline but CZ was determined to be amorphous under the same synthetic condition. In BTZ system, Zr and Ti were completely soluble and Ca would be substituted for Ba up to ∼6 mol% in BCT. The submicron-sized $(Ba_{0.95}Ca_{0.05})(Ti_{0.80}Zr_{0.20})O_3$ powder of the target composition was successfully synthesized at $150{\circ}$ for 12h.

전기-기계 결합 하중을 받는 압전 세라믹 다층 작동기의 무요소 해석 (Analysis of Piezoelectric Ceramic Multi-layer Actuators Based on the Electro-mechanical Coupled Meshless Method)

  • This paper presents an efficient meshless method for analyzing cracked piezoelectric structures subjected to mechanical and electrical loading. The method employs an element free Galerkin (EFG) formulation and an enriched basic function as well as special shape functions that contain discontinuous derivatives. Based on the moving least squares (MLS) interpolation approach, The EFG method is one of the promising methods for dealing with problems involving progressive crack growth. Since the method is meshless and no element connectivity data are needed, the burdensome remeshing procedure required in the conventional finite element method (FEM) is avoided. The numerical results show that the proposed method yields an accurate near-tip stress field in an infinite piezoelectric plate containing an interior hole. Another example is to study a ceramic multilayer actuator. The proposed model was found to be accurate in the simulation of stress and electric field concentrations due to the abrupt end of an internal electrode.

Properties of ITO/Cu/ITO Multilayer Films for Application as Low Resistance Transparent Electrodes

  • Transparent and conducting ITO/Cu/ITO multilayered films were deposited by magnetron sputtering on unheated polycarbonate (PC) substrates. The thickness of the Cu intermediate film was varied from 5 to 20 nm. Changes in the microstructure and optoelectrical properties of ITO/Cu/ITO films were investigated with respect to the thickness of the Cu intermediated layer. The optoelectrical properties of the films were significantly influenced by the thickness of the Cu interlayer. The sandwich structure of ITO 50 nm/Cu 5 nm/ITO 45 nm films had a sheet resistance of $36{\Omega}$/Sq. and an optical transmittance of 67% (contain substrate) at a wavelength of 550 nm, while the ITO 50 nm/Cu 20 nm/ITO 30 nm films had a sheet resistance of $70{\Omega}$/Sq. and an optical transmittance of 36%. The electrical and optical properties of ITO/Cu/ITO films were determined mainly by the Cu film properties. From the figure of merit, it is concluded that the ITO/Cu/ITO films with a 5 nm Cu interlayer showed the better performance in transparent conducting electrode applications than the conventional ITO films.

ITO/Ag/ITO 다층 구조를 이용한 초저저항 투명 전도막 제조 (Preparation of Very Low Resistance Transparent Electrode with ITO/Ag/ITO Multilayer)

  • 기존 산화물 투명전극에 비해 더욱 우수한 전기전도성을 가지는 다층구조의 투명전도막을 마그네트론 스퍼터링 장치를 이용해 제작하였다. 전기전도성을 극대화하기 위해 비저항이 가장 낮은 Ag 금속을 사용하고, 금속층의 상하부에 반사광을 재반사시키는 산화물층을 형성시킨 다층막구조를 이용하였다. Ag 금속막은 충분한 투과율과 전기전도성을 확보하기 위해 연속된 막을 이루기 시작하는 두께인 140$\AA$로 증착하였고, ITO 박막은 가시광 영역의 반사광을 재반사시키는 최적의 두께인 600$\AA$ 내외로 증차하였다. Ag 박막의 증착조건과 후속 ITO 박막증착공정은 Ag박막의 특성에 영향을 미치므로 다층막의 전기적, 광학적 특성은 이들 증착 조건에 민감한 영향을 받음을 확인하였다. 상온에서 Ag박막을 형성하고 ITO박막은 7mTorr의 낮은 압력에서 증착하여 제작한 투명전도막은 SVGA 급의 STN-LCD용 투명전극으로 사용 가능한 4Ω/ㅁ 이하의 낮은 면저항과 빛의 파장이 550nm일 때 85%이상의 투과도를 나타내었다.

Highly Conductive and Transparent Electrodes for the Application of AM-OLED Display

  • We prepared highly transparent and conductive Oxide/Metal/Oxide(OMO) multilayer by sputtering and developed wet etching process of OMO with a clear edge shape for the first time. The transmittance and sheet-resistance of the OMO are about 89% and $3.3\;{\Omega}/sq.$, respectively. We adopted OMO as a gate electrode of transparent TFT (TTFT) array and integrated OLED on top of the TTFT to result in high aperture ratio of bottom emission AM-OLED.
