  • It is necessary to manage water resources in rural areas in order to achieve proper development of new water resources, sustainable usage and reasonable distribution. This paper aims to analyze multi-temporal Landsat-7 ETM+data for soil moisture that is essential for crops in Ahnsung area. The ETM data was also fused with KOMPSAT-1 images in order to be used as backdrop watershed maps at first. Multi-temporal Images showed also the characteristics of soil moisture distribution. Images taken in April showed that rice paddy had as low reflectance as artificial features. Compared with April scenes, those taken in Hay and June showed wetness index increased in the rice paddies. The mountainous areas have almost constant moisture index, so the difference between the dates was very low while reservoirs and livers had dramatic changes. We can calculate total potential areas of distribution of moisture content within the basin and estimate the areas being sensitive to drought. Finally we can point out the sites of small rice paddies lack of water and visualize their distribution within the same basin. It can be said that multi-temporal Landsat-7 ETM+ and KOMPSAT data can be used to show broad drought with quick and simple analysis. Drought sensitiveness maps may enable the decision makers on rural water to evaluate the risk of drought and to measure mitigation, accompanied with proper data on the hydrological and climatic drought.

  • With high social demands for the diverse utilizations of forest lands, the illegal forest land use changes have increased. We studied change detection technique to detect changes in forest land use using an object-oriented segmentation of RED bands differencing in multi-temporal aerial photographs. The new object-oriented segmentation method consists of the 5 steps, "Image Composite - Segmentation - Reshaping - Noise Remover - Change Detection". The method enabled extraction of deforested objects by selecting a suitable threshold to determine whether the objects was divided or merged, based on the relations between the objects, spectral characteristics and contextual information from multi-temporal aerial photographs. The results found that the object-oriented segmentation method detected 12% of changes in forest land use, with 96% of the average detection accuracy compared by visual interpretation. Therefore this research showed that the spatial data by the object-oriented segmentation method can be complementary to the one by a visual interpretation method, and proved the possibility of automatically detecting and extracting changes in forest land use from multi-temporal aerial photographs.

  • This research was carried out to analyze long-term shoreline change on Busan Songjeong Beach using multi-temporal remote sensed data, GPS survey data and grain size analysis. As a result of multi-temporal satellite imagery analysis, the beach was stable status till early 2000s, but the erosion occurred over whole beach after the construction of shore protection road since 2000. In the result of DEM analysis, the elevation of beach reduced and the slope of berm increased after construction of shore protection road along the coast, this means the erosion environment was dominant on the beach. But the sedimentation was slightly stronger than the erosion in northern region of the beach, then the slope of berm was gentle. In the result of grain size analysis using in-situ samples, the coarsening-trend was found in southeastern region (Line E) of the beach, it is caused by strong wave energy from the outer sea. Consequently, major causes of the beach erosion in the study area were the interception of sand supply from a dune owing to shore protection road construction and scouring phenomenon by strong wave energy in southeastern region of the beach. If the topographic or artificial change will not occur in the future, the erosion in this area will continue. Therefore the prevention measures are required.

  • In this paper, we propose an integrated spatial and view scalable video codec based on high efficiency video coding (HEVC). The proposed video codec is developed based on similarity and uniqueness between the scalable extension and 3D multi-view extension of HEVC. To improve compression efficiency using the proposed scalable multi-view video codec, inter-layer and inter-view predictions are jointly employed by using high-level syntaxes that are defined to identify view and layer information. For the inter-view and inter-layer predictions, a decoded picture buffer (DPB) management algorithm is also proposed. The inter-view and inter-layer motion predictions are integrated into a consolidated prediction by harmonizing with the temporal motion prediction of HEVC. We found that the proposed scalable multi-view codec achieves bitrate reduction of 36.1%, 31.6% and 15.8% on the top of ${\times}2$, ${\times}1.5$ parallel scalable codec and parallel multi-view codec, respectively.

  • We investigate error patterns in compressed multi-view videos and propose a multi-hypothesis algorithm, which is adaptive to the error patterns. Different from multi-hypothesis algorithms for mono-view sequences, the proposed algorithm exploits inter-view correlations in multi-view sequences as well as spatio-temporal correlations. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm effectively protects the quality of reconstructed videos against transmission errors.

  • This paper proposes a human action recognition scheme for Intelligent Web Browser. Based on the principle that a human action can be defined as a combination of multiple articulation movements, the inference of stochastic grammars is applied to recognize each action. Human actions in 3 dimensional (3D) world coordinate are measured, quantized and made into two sets of 4-chain-code for xy and zy projection planes, consequently they are appropriate for applying the stochastic grammar inference method. We confirm this method by experiments, that various physical actions can be classified correctly against a set of real world 3D temporal data. The result revealed a comparatively successful achievement of $93.8\%$ recognition rate through the experiments of 8 movements of human head and $84.9\%$ recognition rate of 60 movements of human upper body. We expect that this scheme can be used for human-machine interaction commands in a web browser.

  • This paper proposes an agent-based scheduling method fur semiconductor wafer fabrication facilities with hard inter-operation temporal constraints. The scheduling problem is to find the feasible schedules that guarantee both logical and temporal correctness. A proposed multi-agent based architecture is composed of scheduling agents, workcell agents, and machine agents. A scheduling agent computes optimal schedules through bidding mechanisms with a subset or entire set of the workcell agents. A dynamic planning-based approach is adopted for the scheduling mechanism so that the dynamic behaviors such as aperiodic job arrivals and reconfiguration can be taken into consideration.

  • As the mobile devices and the wireless networks have high-performance capabilities, it is possible to synchronize the spatio-temporal data of a server with the spatio-temporal data of a mobile device which are collected at a field. However, since the server process the synchronization which the model device requests, the whole synchronizations of mass mobile devices take long time. In this paper, we propose the scheme to process concurrently the synchronizations of mobile devices to use multi-queue which does not conflict.

  • Multi-query optimization (MQO) is a critical research issue in the real-time data stream management system (DSMS). We propose to address this problem in the ubiquitous GIS (u-GIS) environment, focusing on grouping 'similar' spatio-temporal queries incrementally into N clusters so that they can be processed virtually as N queries. By minimizing N, the overlaps in the data requirements of the raw queries can be avoided, which implies the reducing of the total disk I/O cost. In this paper, we define the spatio-temporal query clustering problem and give a data cubing approach (Q-cube), which is expected to be implemented in the cloud computing paradigm.
