  • Relay-assisted D2D communication extends the communication range of the D2D pairs and helps users to form D2D pairs effectively. However, due to the introduction of the multi-hop relaying, the D2D communication has to occupy extra transmission time, which may decrease the efficiency of the communication system. In this paper, we propose a scheme to make node receive D2D signal and BS signal at overlapping time to improve the spectrum efficiency according to ZigZag decoding and successive-interference-cancellation (SIC). In this way, more data can be delivered during the same duration, thus the network throughput can be further improved. Numerical results verify the performance improvement of the proposed scheme when compared with a baseline scheme. Moreover, we expand the proposed scheme from one-hop relay scenario to multi-hop relay scenario.

  • In this paper, we investigate the tradeoff between security and reliability for a multi-hop protocol in cluster-based underlay cognitive radio networks. In the proposed protocol, a secondary source communicates with a secondary destination via the multi-hop relay method in the presence of a secondary eavesdropper. To enhance system performance under the joint impact of interference constraint required by multiple primary users and hardware impairments, the best relay node is selected at each hop to relay the source data to the destination. Moreover, the destination is equipped with multiple antennas and employs a selection combining (SC) technique to combine the received data. We derive closed-form expressions of the intercept probability (IP) for the eavesdropping links and the outage probability (OP) for the data links over a Rayleigh fading channel. Finally, the correction of our derivations is verified by Monte-Carlo simulations.

  • In mobile communication networks, the main power consumption is due to the actual transmissions power. Therefore, power efficiency network structures have gained considerable importance in mobile multi-hop systems and networks in recent years. In this paper, the performance of mobile multi-hop wireless system with M-QAM signal and forward error control (FEC) technique are analyzed The FEC technique uses extra processing power related to encoding and decoding, it is need complex functions to be built into the communication node. The probability of receiving a correct bit and codeword for relaying a data frame over h hop relay station to the final station is evaluated as a function of channel parameter and number of hops, and the distance between the different station.

  • In this paper, exact closed-form expressions for outage probability and bit error probability (BEP) are presented for multi-hop decode-and-forward (DF) relaying schemes in conjunction with cooperative diversity, in which selection combining technique is employed at each node. We have shown that the proposed protocol offers remarkable diversity advantage over direct transmission as well as the conventional DF relaying schemes with the same combining technique. We then investigate the system performance when different diversity schemes are employed. It has been observed that the system performance loss due to selection combining relative to maximal ratio combining is not significant. Simulations are performed to confirm our theoretical analysis.

  • In this paper, for the purpose of providing high data rate services, the multi-hop frame structure is designed for the underwater acoustic (UWA) short-range system which is proposed as a part of ocean surveillance and tracking network (OSTN). Under the measured underwater channel environment, the link-level system performance are also evaluated. Simulation results show not only the packet error rate (PER) comparisons, but the optimal modulation and coding scheme (MCS) levels for the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based short-range UWA communications network.

  • Network technology has been developed rapidly for digital service in these days. ZigBee, one of the IEEE 802.15.4 protocols, supporting local communication has become the core technology in the wireless network area. In this paper we designed an integrated fire monitoring system using a mobile robot and the ZigBee sensor nodes which are deployed to monitor fires. When a fire breaks out, the image information of the scene of a fire is transmitted by an autonomous mobile robot and we also monitor the current position of the robot. Furthermore, the data around the place where the fire breaks out and the positions of the sensor nodes can be transmitted to a server via the multi-hop communication in the real time.

  • In this paper, we investigate the throughput capacity of a multi-hop relay network with cognitive radio (CR) enabled relay stations (RS). We suggested a TDMA/FDMA based frame structure where RSs dynamically select unused channels to communicate with the base station (BS) using CR techniques to analyze the throughput capacity. We developed the throughput capacity model for the proposed system based on utilization factor. The analytical results based on those equations show significant improvement in throughput capacity for CR enabled multi-hop relay system.

  • LED is just a semiconductor which can produce light. Currently, there are active research works on LED lighting technologies according to the growth of energy-saving environmental industry. Especially, LED communication is one of the active research works in these fields. In this paper, we design a LED communication-based multi-hop transmission wireless network system. The designed system consists of a transmission circuit system(transmitter) using LED and a receiving circuit system(receiver) using PD(photo detector) and OP-Amp, and relay system which can support multi-hop wireless network service with PD, OP-Amp, and LED, respectively. The experiments for the designed system are performed as follows. One computer is connected at the end of transmitter and receiver, respectively. There are two relays between transmitter and receiver, and text files are transmitted continuously by using text transmission programming. In this experiment, we test the performance with various baud rates, transmission ranges.

  • In this paper, we propose new cell structures using multi-hop Relay Station(RS) based on IEEE802.16j in Narrow-Beam Trisector Cell (NBTC) and Wide-Beam Trisector Cell (WBTC), which are two methods for cell sectorization using 3-sector directional antennas. Then, we analyze our proposed structures compared with the existing system which does not use any RS about the numbers of optimized Base Station (BS) and multi-hop relay, the extended BS coverage, and the deployment cost according to the traffic density using optimization model. According to the results, we know the reduction of total deployment cost of the proposed systems and that WBTC is suitable when the traffic density is high and NBTC is suitable when the traffic density is low in our proposed multi-hop based NBTC and WBTC structures.

  • In this paper, we propose a decision scheme of amount of required resources in wireless multi-hop systems which can reuse radio resources adaptively among relay stations (RSs). Base stations (BSs) can allocate resources dynamically based on amount of required resources of each RS. Moreover using resource reuse with this allocation method can increase amount of available resources in multi-hop systems. Generally, BSs allocate same amount of resources for RSs which share and reuses same resources for each other. Since amount of required resources are different among these RSs, a decision scheme of a specific value which can represent various required resources of RSs is needed. We propose this scheme which can decide the representative value of required resources of RSs adaptively based on the amount of required resources and the buffer state of each RS. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme can increase performance of a multi-hop system. System capacity with the proposed adaptive scheme is increased by twice as large as one with a fixed representation value.
