  • A calibration method for multiple sets of stereo vision cameras is proposed. To measure the three-dimensional shape of a very long object, measuring the object at different viewpoints and registration of the data are necessary. In this study, two lasers beams generate two strings of calibration targets, which form straight lines in the world coordinate system. An evaluation function is defined to calculate the sum of the squares of the distances between each transformed target and the fitted line representing the laser beam to each target, and the distances between points appearing in the data sets of two adjacent viewpoints. The calculation process for the approximation method based on data linearity is presented. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the method.

  • This paper describes a method of road tracking by using a vision and laser with extracting road boundary (road lane and curb) for navigation of intelligent transport robot in structured road environments. Road boundary information plays a major role in developing such intelligent robot. For global navigation, we use a global positioning system achieved by means of a global planner and local navigation accomplished with recognizing road lane and curb which is road boundary on the road and estimating the location of lane and curb from the current robot with EKF(Extended Kalman Filter) algorithm in the road assumed that it has prior information. The complete system has been tested on the electronic vehicles which is equipped with cameras, lasers, GPS. Experimental results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the combined laser and vision system by our approach for detecting the curb of road and lane boundary detection.

  • Recently mobile phone camera become generally spread, it is required to develop high resolution, multi-functional camera module for obtaining high image quality. To satisfy this demand, number of pixels has been increased and pixel size decreased in small mobile phone cameras. As a result, image quality is seriously dropped by blur phenomena. Especially when hand tremble is occurred, image quality is dropped by camera shake. Therefore, to obtain high quality image, it is necessary to compensate user's hand tremble. In this paper, we propose voice coil actuator for compensating hand tremble, which can apply optical image stabilization (OIS) system. Sensitivity analysis and size optimization are performed to obtain high driving force. Finally, it is confirmed that the optimized electromagnetic circuit can be applied in OIS system.

  • In this paper, we propose a method of detecting the distance between two vehicles by computing the disparity of the close-rang vehicle stereo image using two digital cameras. The boundary(or edge) of the object considered the vehicle is obtained by using the modified wavelet transform which has multi-resolution characteristics. We analyze the histogram using the coarse-to-fine method considering a whole feature and increase the resolution to obtain the exact disparity. From the results, the distance of the close-range vehicle is detected effectively by using our proposed method.

  • The downlink data rates of the space-born payloads such as high-resolution optical cameras, synthetic aperture radars (SAR) and hyper-spectral sensors are being rapidly increased. For example, the image transmission rates of KOMPSAT-2 MSC(Multi-Spectral Camera) is 320Mbps even if on-board image compression scheme is used.[1] In the near future, the data rates are expected to be a level 500${\sim}$600Mbps because the required resolution will be higher and the swath width will be increased. This paper describes many techniques they enable 500Mbps data receiving and archiving system.

  • This paper presents the development of estimation model and control method based on the new robot vision. This proposed control method is accomplished using the sequential estimation scheme that permits placement of the rigid body in each of the two-dimensional image planes of monitoring cameras. Estimation model with six parameters is developed based on the model that generalizes known 4-axis scara robot kinematics to accommodate unknown relative camera position and orientation, etc. Based on the estimated parameters, depending on each camera the joint angle of robot is estimated by the iteration method. The method is experimentally tested in two ways, the estimation model test and a three-dimensional rigid body placement task. Three results show that control scheme used is precise and robust. This feature can open the door to a range of application of multi-axis robot such as assembly and welding.

  • The media transport systems, such as printers, copiers, facsimile, ATMs, cameras, etc., have been widely used and being developed rapidly. In the development of those systems, the media feeding mechanism is an important key technology for the design and development of the media transport systems. In this paper, a multi-degree of freedom sheet model with dynamic contact conditions is presented to understand the mechanism of sticking and jamming. A sheet is modelled as a cantilever beam and the feeding velocity is assumed to be constant. The relation between the feeding velocity and the coefficient of friction for guaranteeing stable feeding is presented. Simulations are performed for a horizontal linear guide and a oblique linear guide, calculating the contact force and contact states of mass points.

  • Moving object segmentation from a nonstationary camera is a difficult problem due to the motion of both camera and the object. In this paper, we propose a new confidence-based background subtraction technique from moving camera. The method is based on clustering of motion vectors and generating adaptive multi-homography from a pair of adjacent video frames. The main innovation concerns the use of confidence images for each foreground and background motion groups. Experimental results revealed that our confidence-based approach robustly detect moving targets in sequences taken by a freely moving camera.

  • As we perceive the world as 3-dimensional through our two eyes, we can extract 3-dimensional information from stereo images obtained from two or more cameras. Since stereo images have a large amount of data, with recent advances in digital video coding technology, efficient compression algorithms have been developed for stereo images. In order to compress stereo images and to obtain 3-D information such as depth, we find disparity vectors by using disparity estimation algorithm generally utilizing pixel differences between stereo pairs. However, it is not unusual to have stereo images having different intensity values for several reasons, such as incorrect control of the iris of each camera, disagreement of the foci of two cameras, orientation, position, and different characteristics of CCD (charge-coupled device) cameras, and so on. The intensity differences of stereo pairs often cause undesirable problems such as incorrect disparity vectors and consequent low coding efficiency. By compensating intensity differences between left and right images, we can obtain higher coding efficiency and hopefully reduce the perceptual burden of brain to combine different information incoming from two eyes. We propose several methods of intensity compensation such as local intensity compensation, global intensity compensation, and hierarchical intensity compensation as very simple and efficient preprocessing tool. Experimental results show that the proposed algerian provides significant improvement in coding efficiency.
