Prediction Model of Chloride Penetration in Concrete Bridge Deck Considering Environmental Effects (대기 환경조건을 고려한 콘크리트 교량 바닥판의 염소이온 침투 예측 모델)

  • Recently, the deterioration of reinforced concrete structures, primarily due to corrosion of steel reinforcement, has become a major concern. Chloride-induced deterioration is the most important deterioration phenomenon in reinforced concrete structures in harsh environments. For the realistic prediction of chloride penetration into concrete, a mathematical model was developed in which the effects of diffusion, chloride binding and convection due to water movement can be taken into account. The aim of this research was to reach a better understanding on the physical mechanisms underlying the deterioration process of reinforced concrete associated with chloride-induced corrosion and to propose a reliable method for estimating these effects. Chloride concentrations coming from de-icing salts are significantly influenced by the exposure conditions such as salt usage, ambient temperature and repeated wet-dry cycles.

  • Precise run-off forecasting depends on the ability to predict quantitative rainfall intensity. The purpose of this study is to develop a stochastic model for the shori-term rainfall prediction. It is required for the model to predict rainfall intensities at all the telemetered rain-gauge locations simultaneously. All the model parameters, which are used in this work ; velocity and direction of storm movement, radial spectrum, and dimensionless time distribution of rainfall, are the results of the previous study. We formulated the model and operated it, so that in this study was analyzed particulary the influence of 4 dimensionless time distributions on the prediction and the influence of the model on run-off.

  • Recently, Internet Telephony has become increasingly popular in telecommunication industry. However, previous research on Internet Telephony has focused on analyzing specific Internet Telephony solutions, identifying the Internet Telephony movement itself. The research on prediction models about Internet Telephony adoption has been minimal. The main propose of this study is to develop models for predicting transition intention from using traditional telephones to using Internet Telephony. To do so, this study uses data mining methods to analyze demands in the IT communications market and to provide management strategies for Internet telephony providers. Especially this study uses discriminant analysis, logistic regression, classification tree, and neural nets to develop the prediction models for the Internet Telephony adoption. The models are compared with each other and a superior model is chosen.

  • A new indoor mobile robot localization method is presented. Robot recognizes well designed single color landmarks on the ceiling by vision system, as reference to compute its precise position. The proposed likelihood prediction based method enables the robot to estimate its position based only on the orientation of landmark.The use of single color landmarks helps to reduce the complexity of the landmark structure and makes it easily detectable. Edge based optical flow is further used to compensate for some landmark recognition error. This technique is applicable for navigation in an unlimited sized indoor space. Prediction scheme and localization algorithm are proposed, and edge based optical flow and data fusing are presented. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides accurate estimation of the robot position with a localization error within a range of 5 cm and directional error less than 4 degrees.

  • This article presents computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of nanoparticle movements and flow characteristics in laboratory-scale electrostatic precipitator (ESP) without corona discharge, and for simulation, it uses the commercial CFD program(CFD-ACE) including electrostatic theory and Lagrangian-based equation for nanoparticle movement. For validation of CFD results, a simple cylindrical type of ESP is simulated and numerical prediction shows fairly good agreement with the analytical solution. In particular, the present study investigates the effect of particle diameter, inlet flow rate, and applied electric potential on particle collection efficiency and compares the numerical prediction with the experimental data, showing good agreement. It is found that the particle collection efficiency decreases with increasing inlet flow rate because the particle detention time becomes shorter, whereas it decreases with the increase in nanoparticle diameter and with the decrease of applied electric voltage resulting from smaller terminal electrostatic velocity.

  • Enhancement of the accuracy of products and productivity are essential to survive in a global industrial competition. This trend requires tighter dimensional tolerance specifications. To actively cope with the rapid change of the workpiece material and cutter geometry, a general method that can predict and analyze the machined surface is needed. Surface generation model for the prediction of the topography of machined surfaces is developed based on cutting force model considering cutter deflection and runout. This paper presents the method that constructs the three-dimensional machined surface error following the movement of a cutter, irrespective of the variations of cutting conditions. In addition, the effects of the cutting forces and the kink shape on the machined surface are extensively investigated.

  • Most of subway stations are located underground and the number of passengers is far more than that of designed value, therefore the risk of accident is growing bigger and serious damage is expected in case of disaster. In Korea the period of evacuation study is short and numerical and experimental data of evacuation phenomena in subway station is rare. Many egress evaluation depend on foreign commercial S/Ws which are not yet proven its availability in special case such as subway station. In this paper outflow coefficients which are essential in egress evaluation are calculated at train door, stairway and turnstile at 3 most crowed subway stations. This numerical data can be used in prediction of egress evaluation and the result of other prediction methods can be verified with these experimental data.

A Study on the Tool Interference Detection and Tool Path Correction in Compound Surface Machining (복합곡면 가공시 공구간섭의 탐지와 공구경로 수정에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper we deal with tool interference problem in the case of compound surface machining. A new tool interference detection and correction method based on the envelope of the tool path is suggested to identify and correct the tool interference - not only within the local path of tool movement, but also outside of the tool path. Therefore, the developed strategy can be used to check the possible interference in any region of the surface. In order to analyze quantitatively the milled surface error produced by the tool interference, improved surface prediction model is also suggested in cutting process by general cutters. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through simulation study.

  • There is an accelerating need for ocean sensing where autonomous vehicles can play a key role in assisting engineers, researcher and scientists with environmental monitoring and collecting oceanographic data. This paper is performed to develops an autonomous sailing drone to be used as a sensor carrying platform for autonomous data acquisition at Sea. From a sailing drone design viewpoint, it is important to establish reliable prediction methods for sailing drone's resistance. The required power for the propulsion unit depends on the ship resistance and speed. There are three solutions for the prediction of ship resistance as follow analytical methods, model tests in tanks and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The present paper aims at simulating sailing drone friction resistance using numerical method. The dynamic mesh motion is used to describe the sailing drone movement.

담수호 저층배수시설 방류구 위치선정을 위한 저층방류수 해양수중 혼합특성해석

  • Initial mixing characteristics in near field regions were analyzed by FLOW-3D, for analyzing mixing behavior of submerged discharge from freshwater lake in sea water. FLOW-3D model was applied to the region near Geum-ho dike for its verification. Simulation results from FLOW-3D were compared to the observed data for the verification periods. FLOW-3D showed resonable prediction results compared to the observed data, except underestimation in area near outfall. Particularly, FLOW-3D showed a good prediction for movement of buoyancy jets. In addition, FLOW-3D model was applied to the region near Saemangeum dike, which is to be constructed in near future. It was expected that the results of model application to Saemangeum area could provide substantial information in planning submerged discharge facilities. Based on the model applications to Saemangeum area, it was recommended that outfall should be located to the distance which gave an enough depth of outfall from water surface.
