  • This paper proposes a new controller design method for a fork-type lifter (FTL) of a transportation mobile robot. The transportation robot needs to pick up a package from a stack on a storage shelf and move on by a planned path in a logistics center environment. The position of the storage shelf is recognized by reading a QR code on the floor, and using this position, the robot can move to reach the storage shelf and pick up the package. PID controllers and an adaptive controller are designed to control the velocity of two wheels and the position of the FTL. An adaptive controller for the lifter is designed to elevate up and down on a slideway to the correct height position of the package on the stack of the storage shelf. The simulation results show that the PID controllers can respond smoothly to the desired angular velocity and the adaptive controller can adapt quickly and correctly to the desired height.

  • The goal of this research is to reduce noise level of an outdoor unit of air conditioner by changing its dynamic characteristics using SDM (structural dynamics modification) technique. At first, the emitting noise was measured and analyzed. The measurement records show the most critical frequency components which influences on the noise level. Then it was tried to move the natural frequencies outside the critical frequency region by SDM. Since it is very difficult to get a reliable FE model of air conditioner, experimentally measured frequency response functions were used to derive sensitivities that are very important to obtain design changes. The positions of modification and the thickness of modifying structures were determined to improve the dynamic characteristics of air conditioner. The recommended design guideline to move its natural frequencies outside the targeting frequency range was obtained. Then in order to prove its effectiveness, the changed design was experimentally tested and found that the SDM result is very effective to reduce not only its vibration but also its emitting noise.

  • A self-propulsive polishing robot is proposed as a method which automates a floor polisher. The proposed robot with two rotary brushes does not require any mechanism such as wheels to obtain driving forces. When the robot polishes a floor with its two brushes rotating, friction forces occur between the two brushes and the floor. These friction forces are used to move the robot. Thus, the robot can move in any direction by controlling the two rotary brushes properly. In this paper, firstly a dynamics model of a brush is presented. It computes the friction force between the brush and the floor. Secondly, the dynamics of the proposed robot is presented by using the bush dynamics. Finally, the inverse dynamics is solved for the basic motions, such as the forward, backward, leftward, rightward motions and the pure rotaion. This paper will contribute to realize a self-propulsive polishing robot as proposed above, In addition, this paper will give basic ideas to automate the concrete floor finishing trowel, because its basic idea for motion is similar to that of the proposed robot.

  • It is essential to provide good environment for juvenile fish to grow and spawn in order to keep reproduction mechanism of fisheries resources. However, harvesting juvenile fish deprives adult fish of the opportunity to reproduce, thereby changing self-regulating renewable resources into non-renewable ones and preventing sustainable harvesting as well as reducing fishers' income. We reviewed the catch status of Korea on juvenile mackerel and analyzed how reducing the catch ratio of juvenile mackerel may affect the spawning stock and Korean fishermen's revenue. In addition, we analyzed the problem of caching juvenile mackerel in Korean fisheries and current efforts to protect and reduce the catch ratio of juvenile mackerel in Korea. Furthermore, we suggested future efforts to protect juvenile mackerel. The result of the study showed that reducing the catch ratio of juvenile mackerel from 44.4% to 30.0% would increase fishers' revenue by 60.6 billion KRW. We suggest the changing of purse seine fishery's catching methods from night operation to day operation, relocation of fishing vessels to move to other fishing grounds when fishing vessels meet high density of juvenile mackerel, and consumers' clever choice of consuming adult mackerel in order to accelerate the move toward protecting juvenile mackerel in Korea.

  • Designing efficient routing protocols for a wireless sensor network with mobile sinks (mWSN) is a challenging task since the network topology and data paths change frequently as sink nodes move. In this paper, we design a novel lightweight reactive ring based routing protocol called R3, which removes the need of proactively maintaining data paths to mobile sinks as they move in the network. To achieve high packet delivery ratio and low transmission cost, R3 combines ring based forwarding and trail based forwarding together. To support efficient ring based forwarding, we build a ring based structure for a network in a way such that each node in the network can easily obtain its ring ID and virtual angle information. For this purpose, we artificially create a virtual hole in the central area of the network and accordingly find a shortest cycled path enclosing the hole, which serves as base ring and is used for generating the remaining ring based structure. We accordingly present the detailed design description for R3, which only requires each node to keep very limited routing information. We derive the communication overhead by ring based forwarding. Extensive simulation results show that R3 can achieve high routing performance as compared with existing work.

  • In this paper, we propose a detection method of the leukocyte motions in a microvessel by using spatiotemporal image analysis. The leukocyte motions that adhere to blood vessel walls can be visualized to move along the blood vessel wall's contours in a sequence of images. In this proposal method, we use the constraint that the leukocytes move along the blood vessel wall's contours and detect the leukocyte motions by using the spatiotemporal image analysis method. The generated spatiotemporal image is processed by a special-purpose orientation-selective filter and then subsequent grouping processes are done. The subsequent grouping processes select and group the leukocyte trace segments among all the segments obtained by simple thresholding and skeletonizing operations. Experimental results show that the proposed method can stably detect the leukocyte motions even when multiple leukocyte traces intersect each other.

  • In this paper we propose an extended interleaving technique to improve a detailed placement. The existing row-based interleaving technique allows cells to move only within a row and it can be applied when there is no space between cells. The proposed extended-interleaving technique releases such constraints so that cells can move along with a vertical line parallel to a y-axis and space between cells is properly handled. Converged detailed-placements by a mature CAD tool have been improved by the proposed interleaving technique by 9.5% on average in half-perimeter wire length.

  • This paper describes a program which learns good strategies for two-poison, deterministic, zero-sum board games of perfect information. The program learns by simply playing the game against either a human or computer opponent. The results of the program's teaming of a lot of games are reported. The program consists of search kernel and a move generator module. Only the move generator is modified to reflect the rules of the game to be played. The kernel uses a temporal difference procedure combined with a backpropagation neural network to team good evaluation functions for the game being played. Central to the performance of the program is the search procedure. This is a the capture tree search used in most successful janggi playing programs. It is based on the idea of using search to correct errors in evaluations of positions. This procedure is described, analyzed, tested, and implemented in the game-teaming program. Both the test results and the performance of the program confirm the results of the analysis which indicate that search improves game playing performance for sufficiently accurate evaluation functions.

  • On this research, to catch up with international trend on the power system utilities move to be digitalized and move to network is certainly technological on the global business world, to compete with advanced foreign countries in the range of transmit and distribute power system and to take possession of first market share within country, we talked over a monitoring system to diagnose, monitor ACB(Air Circuit Breaker) only which is operated on the low level voltage Power plant. AMS(ACB Monitoring System) have be configured with several modules such as engine module which acquire engineering data from HICM360/860(Communication Control Units) and analyze and save it, database module which restore data and can be inquired, system monitoring view module which reflects fields information within a second, realtime trend window, historical trend window, reports as daily and yearly. In a near future, AMS must upgrade GUI to have easy to handle and have to have a field test to fit on real plants, so it will have faith in system reliability as it can apply power plant monitoring system in wide.

  • A new method for determination of electric parameter of cell membranes is proposed. Two circular electrodes is designed to have repulsive force. From the potential energy analysis, stable points where a cell is levitated between electrodes exist and move as frequency or voltage change. The levitated cell in the stable point fall freely when DEP force is zero. The DEP force is dependent on the frequency and the force is zero at the critical frequency. The critical frequency is determined by measuring the difference between the time taken at zero-applied voltage and the time taken at the frequency and the voltage. For example, the critical frequency and stable points of N.crassa slime cell is numerically evaluated. In the exeriment, polystyrene in water is levitated at the stable point. We show that the stable point move as the applied voltage is changed.
