  • Objectives This study was performed to compare the electrical methods of motor points mapping using surface EMG and electric probe (Pointer Excel II). Methods 32 healthy adults (male 16, female 16) were selected. and classified into two groups; surface EMG group, electric probe (Pointer Excel II) group. In surface EMG group, motor points were searched by recoding the compound muscle potentials. In electric probe (Pointer Excel II) group, motor points were searched by scanning the skin with Pointer Excel II at low level stimulation. The locations of the motor points were expressed as X and Y values in relation to the reference line. The horizontal reference line was set as elbow crease and the vertical reference line was set as the line connecting coracoid process to the center of the horizontal reference line. The data was analyzed by 'Independent T-test' and 'equivalence test'. Results 1. The motor points of short head and long head of biceps brachii muscle were located at about 2/3 length of the vertical reference line from coracoid process and about 1/5~1/4 length of the half of the horizontal reference line from the vertical reference line in both group. 2. The motor points of the short head were located more distally and close to the vertical reference line (p<0.001). 3. In surface EMG group, the motor points of the long head were located more laterally in the female than male. And the motor points of the long head were located more distally in the left side than right side (p<0.05). In electric probe (Pointer Excel II) group, similar tendency was observed but there was no statistically significant difference (p>0.05). 4. As a result of the equivalence test between surface EMG group and electric probe (Pointer Excel II) group, the confidence intervals of the difference were within the equivalence limit. Therefore, the locations of the motor points searched by two ways are equa l (p>0.05, equivalence interval=3%). Conclusions The results indicate that electric probe (Pointer Excel II) can be used to search the motor points instead of surface EMG. This might improve the clinical efficiency when using the motor points to treat muscle dysfunction.

  • The aim of this study was to examine the characteristics in duration and amplitude of the submental muscle activities during dry and wet swallowing. We examined the middle suprahyoid muscle activities in 32 normal adult women during three swallowing conditions, that is, dry as well as 5 mL & 10 mL water swallowings, using a surface EMG. From the results, there were significant differences in duration: the longest in dry swallowing and shortest in 5 mL water swallowing. However, the mean amplitude per msec increased as the duration decreased. This may imply motor equivalence in swallowing stating that duration and amplitude are complementary in order to achieve a given swallowing goal.

  • A parametric study was made to understand the fundamentals of combustion of CNG fuel in a constant volume chamber in the respect of swirl effect, and the numbers of spark ignition. Optical devices were applied for the visualization of the physics of combustion, and combustion pressures and exhaust emission were measured at several equivalence ratios by controlling speeds of a swirling motor. When the speed of a swirling motor was raised the combustion conditions were improved. The corresponding maximum combustion pressure and heat release rate were increased and the speed of flame propagation was getting faster. This research may contribute to improve the performance of CNG engine and reduce emissions in future.

  • This paper improves the calculating method about the inductance with the high order frequency coreloss. It is different in which the analyzed inductance for calculating IPMSM and the measured thing for experiment. Due to this phenomenon, the expected input voltage differs from the inquired input voltage for operating the motor. This results from the coreloss margin which have both the 1st order and high order frequency value. For reducing the inductance error, after calculating the equivalence coreloss resistance with having the 1st order frequency Back_EMF and coreloss, designing the inductance with the high order frequency which occurred by the coreloss of high order frequency, and comparing the renovated inductance analysis value with the measured thing.

  • In this paper, the pole placement controller based on the Robust Internal-loop Compensator (RIC) structure, which has inherent structural equivalence to disturbance observer, is proposed to control a linear positioning system. This controller has the advantage to easily select controller gains by using pole placement without loss of that of original RIC structure. The principal is to construct the pole placement controller for a nominal internal model instead of unknown real plant. Using linear motion experiment showed the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

  • Purpose: Translation and adaptation involve cross-cultural and conceptual aspects; they are not simply based on linguistic equivalence. This study aimed to produce a conceptually equivalent Korean version of the motor activity log (K-MAL) for the upper extremities that can be applied across the Korean population and its cultures. Methods: Following the procedures used in the translation of other cross-cultural evaluation tools, and the five steps of the translation process, the motor activity log (MAL) was translated into Korean (K-MAL). We then examined the content validity of the K-MAL. Twenty-two rehabilitation professionals (11 males and 11 females, mean length of clinical career = 101.54 months) assessed the content validity of the K-MAL. The content validity ratio and content validity index were used to verify the content validity. Results: There were inconsistencies found in three sub-items in the MAL during the forward translation process. These inconsistencies were corrected, and the complete K-MAL was produced. The exact critical values of the content validity ratio and the content validity index of the K-MAL were 0.45-0.95 and 0.77-1.00, respectively. Conclusion: The K-MAL was successfully developed using a systematic methodology, which included translation, adaptation, and evaluation of the content validity. We expect that stroke rehabilitation professionals working in both clinical and research settings will apply the K-MAL when evaluating the amount and quality of use of the upper extremities in post-stroke patients in Korea.

  • Fuzzy logic control(FLC) has been studied extensively and has been applied in various applications. The most popular control strategy takes the Fuzzy Proportional-Integral(FPI) form while systematic methods have been developed to derive the fuzzy rules and membership functions the choice of the scaling factors remains an open problem, In this paper an analytical FPI scaling factor determining method is derived based on the functional equivalence of the PI and FPI controllers. Simulation have been carried out with a brushless DC motor drive system as test-bed the obtained results drive system as test-bed the obtained results have verified that the derived method is applicable to both the initial choice and further tuning of the FPI scaling factors.

  • This paper describes the forced flame response in a turbulent premixed gas turbine combustor. The fuel was premixed with the air upstream of a choked inlet to avoid equivalence ratio fluctuations. To impose the inlet flow velocity, a siren type modulation device was developed using an AC motor, rotating and static plates. Measurements were made of the velocity fluctuation in the nozzle using hot wire anemometry and of the heat release fluctuation in the combustor using chemiluminescence emission. The test results showed that flame length as well as geometry was strongly dependent upon modulation frequency in addition to operating conditions such as inlet velocity. Convection delay time between the velocity perturbation and heat release fluctuations was calculated using phase information of the transfer function, which agreed well with the results of flame length measurements. Also, basic characteristics of the flame nonlinear response shown in the current test conditions were introduced.

  • Flame behaviors and interaction between pilot and main flames in a dual swirl combustor were investigated experimentally and numerically. Under the condition of fixed swirl angle of $45^{\circ}$ for main flame, the swirl angle of pilot flame, total heat release rate and equivalence ratio of main flame were used as major parameters. As a result, detailed flame stability diagram of dual swirl combustor was identified in terms of 5 flame modes with the changes in total heat release rate and equivalence ratio of main flame. It was found that the swirl angle of pilot flame plays the most important role in the changes in flame location and overall flow structure inside the combustor, and thus leads to the significant change in the interaction between pilot and main flame.

  • To develop a hydrogen fueled engine with external mixture which uses in high reliability, low cost and low pressure, the single cylinder research engine with MCVVT(Mechanical Continuous Variable Valve Timing) system is developed and its basic characteristics analyzed. The MCVVT developed has high reliability and the valve timing change is possible in wide range continuously. Though the mechanical loss due to MCVVT system is increased a little, back-fire suppression research for valve overlap period is no difficulty. It's also confirmed that the hydrogen-fueled engine has lower torque and is possible high lean burn. As fuel-air equivalence ratio is high, as thermal efficiency is remarkable increasing.
