  • The dynamic performance analyses and tests for a 50kW turbo-generator (KIMM-TG50) were carried out. The operating concept of this machine is that it gets the initial driving force from the built-in motor-generator until it reaches its self-sustaining speed of 40,000 rpm, and then the driving mode is changed to self-operating mode by the combustor installed between the centrifugal compressor and the turbine. Due to winding mistake of motor-generator, the system could go only up to 22000 rpm by the motor so that high pressure air externally fed into the turbine was utilized to get the system to run up to 62,000 rpm thereafter. The vibration data collected during the tests revealed that the first bending critical speed is in near 5,600 rpm as predicted in the design stage of the rotor-bearing system, and that there were no other identifiable critical speeds up until 62,000 rpm due to high damping from the squeeze film damper-bearings supporting the rotor. This paper presented some of the experimental results along with dynamic performance predictions made in the design stage as a part of progress being made.

  • Motors with HTS wires or bulks have been developing recently. Those are large synchronous motor with HTS wires at the field winding in the rotor, hysteresis and reluctance motors with HTS bulk in the rotor. This paper presents the fabrication and test results of an HTS induction motor. Conventional end rings and short bars were replaced with HTS wires in the motor. Stator of the conventional induction motor was used as the stator of the HTS motor. Rated capacity and rpm at full rotor of the conventional motor were 0.75[kW] and 1,710[rpm]. Two, HTS wires are used in parallel to make the end rings and bars. The critical current of the BSCCO-2223 HTS wire which was used in the bars and end rings were 115[A]. Electrodynamometer was coupled directly to the shaft of the rotor with HTS wires.

  • This paper deals with the electrical design and analysis of a 300HP, 60,000rpm permanent magnet synchronous motor for turbo machine. The design is performed by analytic method of magnetic field theory. And electrical losses of the motor driven by current with sinusoidal and harmonic form are analyzed by using FEM.

  • This study was performed for the application of a high-speed centrifugal cyclone to shale gas mining process. This device uses the centrifugal force to control particles similar to typical cyclones, and the disk located inside the cyclone is forced to rotate using a motor. The pressure difference occurred during the rotating of disk. Hence, inflow rate was generated without a blower fan. In addition, flow rate increased with elevating rpm of motor. The installing the disk in multiple stages on the inner rotor increased the instantaneous disk outlet flow. Hence, the control efficiency of oil particle increased from 1.05% to 31.2%. By modifying the structure of the disk so that the air flow to the opposite direction of the cyclone, the control efficiency of oil particles increased to 81.5%. By increasing the capacity of the motor and the size of the disk, the flow rate was increased to 2.5 ㎥/min because the rpm of motor and pressure difference increased. As rpm of motor increased, the cut-off diameter (dpc) became smaller. Unlike the Lapple's equation, dpc was inversely proportional to the effective number of rotations (Ne). The control efficiency was maintained even if the concentration of oil particles increased, for this reason, the higher the oil concentration, the more particles were accumulated and controlled.

  • In order to evaluate the cytotoxicity of methylmercuric chloride(MMC) in cultured spinal motor neurons of neonatal mouse, cell viability was measured by MTT assay in spinal motor neurons treated with 1-30 μM MMC for 48 hours. And also, the protective effect of Radix Polygoni Multiflori(RPM) was examined by cell viability in these cultures. Cell viability was significantly decreased in dose-dependent manner after cultured cells were exposured to 20 μM MMC for 48 hours. Protective effect of RPM on MMC-mediated toxicity was very effective in these cultures. From above the results, it suggests that MMC has toxic effect in cultured mouse spinal motor neurons and herb extract such as RPM is very effective in blocking the neurotoxicity induced by MMC.

  • Foil gas bearing is a noncontact bearing operated by coupled interaction between hydrodynamic pressure of viscous fluid and elastic deformation of foil structure. It has valuable advantages, such as low power loss, long life, oilless environment and low vibration, over conventional bearings for the high speed applications. A high speed BLDC motor adopting the foil bearing has been developed. It is designed to have 38㎾ power at 100,000 RPM for a cryogenic cooler whose operating fluid is neon. In this paper, structural development details especially for the foil gas bearing and rotordynamics are presented.

  • In this study, a motor-integrated high-speed spindle system with $\psi$65mm $\times$ 25,000rpm is developed by introducing the oil-jet lubrication method, ceramic angular contact ball bearings, a built-in motor and so on. And oil-jet lubrication experiments fur evaluating the system performance are performed under various operation conditions. Especially, in order to establish the oillet lubrication conditions related to the development of a high-speed spindle system, the effects of oil supply rate and rotational spindle speed are investigated on the temperature rise, temperature distribution, motor current and so on.

  • The purpose of this study is to construct a testing equipment with which several characteristics of the domestically developed swashplate type axial piston motor can be tested and to develop a software with which the data from experiment can be stored and can be applied. The results of the study are as follows; 1) The leakage flow and the torque of the motor being stopped is propotional to supply pressure and their relation can be showed by linear equations. 2) The motor movement is not smooth below 50 rpm but it moves smoothly up 170 rpm. 3) When the motor starts or stops, the pressure rise ratio effects decisively to the max. torque.
