  • This study aimed at examining the career decision level of Clothing and Textile major college students in Seoul area. With the increasing rates of youth unemployment, preparing college students for their future career and guiding them in making career decision is imperative. Students' satisfaction with their major and motivation orientation were considered as influencing factors, as well as their demographic characteristics. A survey was conducted to 282 students majoring Clothing and Textiles at seven universities and 277 completed questionnaires were used for analysis. The questionnaire measured respondents' major satisfaction, motivational orientation, career decision level, and demographics (gender, age, school and department names, class standing, expected graduation date, subjective social status, and GPA). Descriptive statistics, K-means cluster analysis, one-way analysis of variance followed by Duncan multiple comparisons were conducted. The results indicated that Clothing and Textiles majors were overall satisfied with their major, but the satisfaction level was higher for female than male students. Those who were satisfied with their major were less likely to feel anxious about career decision-making. The High-Motivation group and the Intrinsic-Motivation group showed lower anxiety over career decision-making compared to Low-Motivation and Extrinsic-Motivation groups. This study has implications for college advisors in that it provides basic information on students' career decision level and the influencing factors.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of group success on organizational commitment in organizational situations. It also aimed to investigate the dynamics in the relevance of motivational attitudes to the individual and group level variables(collective efficacy, group cohesiveness). This study used a multi-level model and tested a series of hypotheses through meso-mediation procedure. The results from 613 naval officials in 36 groups provided evidence that; (1) collective efficacy mediated the relationship between group success and group cohesiveness, (2) the cross-level main effects of group success and collective efficacy were shown on vocationa[l self-efficacy, (3) group cohesiveness exerted positive influence on organizational commitment and (4) the meso-mediation effects among the variables at the multi-level were revealed. It was found that the degree of work motivation and motivational attitudes depended on the group's contextual factors, and that each group's shared perceptions on group performance outcomes could be an important motivational source and cornerstone leading to group cohesiveness. The implications and limitations of these study as well as the direction for future study were discussed.

  • Korea is reported as one of the highest performing OECD countries in PISA 2009 science achievement, ranking $4^{th}{\sim}7^{th}$ among 65 participating countries. However, the top level 6 percentage came only at 1.1% and ranks $18^{th}$ among paticipating countries. Such dissatisfying results call for attention to seek effective teaching and learning strategies for top level students in Korea. This study aims to investigate the effect of reading motivational and behavioral factors on PISA 2009 science achievement for the population who scored high compared to populations scoring middle and low. For this purpose, PISA 2009 science achievement as well as students questionnaire data were utilized. Variables of reading motivational and behavioral factors were selected and structural equation modeling was employed to examine a hypothetical cause-effect relationship between reading factors and science achievement. It was found that there is a cause-effect relationship between reading factors and science achievement for the whole population. For those in the top 16% of students in PISA 2009 science achievement, reading behaviors on text-memorization have had little or no effects, while reading motivational and other behavioral factors showed a significant influence. In contrast, the middle 68% and low 16% populations have had significant effects for text-memorization on science achievement.

  • Modern production requires production staff who have design competence, experience and skills to work in various types of work integrated into professional activities. Possession of digital design methods significantly expands the opportunities for professional activities of qualified workers. The purpose of our study was to study the impact of pedagogical conditions on the formation of design competence of future qualified workers in a group work. We have identified a set of pedagogical conditions that promote the development of professionally oriented artistic and technical creativity of workers in the conditions of curricular and extracurricular activities, which include motivational-target, procedural-semantic, organizational-technological, and subject-oriented. It is shown that the formation of design competence is determined by motivational, informational-active and reflection criteria, which are aimed at motivational-value, cognitive, operational-active, creative, social and emotional components of this competence. The methodology of the research is highlighted, which includes the use of the following methods: determination of the personality's motivational sphere in order to identify strong and weak motives of students activity; multiple intelligence to identify students talents in the direction of practical intelligence, which is important for design competence; determining the level of creative activity to identify manifestations of students creative abilities; identifying the type of students innovative thinking in order to develop motivation for success; factor-criterion model, developed on the basis of a qualimetric approach, which is used to identify the level of design competence formation in accordance with its components. The results of the study showed that the creation of separate pedagogical conditions in the institution of vocational education and training (VET) had a positive impact on the development of design competence, which shows the potential of artistic and technical design in the development of professional creativity of future qualified workers taking into account the environmental approach.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to examine motivational factors affecting sweetness preference in Korean and Japanese children. We identified meaningful variables that could be targeted to nutrition education interventions designed to overcome innate barriers and reduce sweetness preference and sweet food intake in Korean and Japanese children. Methods: Questionnaire surveys and sweetness preference test were conducted to examine variables affecting behavioral intention (BI) regarding sweetness preference. Questionnaire variables were based on the theory of planned behavior. Participants were recruited from one urban school from each country. In total, 166 children (mean age: 8.4 years) and their guardians (n = 166) participated in the study. A trained research assistant provided all children with personal guidance regarding completion of the sweetness preference test and survey questionnaire at school. The data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficients, t tests, repeated measure ANOVA, and stepwise multiple regression analysis (significance level: p < 0.05). Results: Perceived behavioral control (PBC) and parenting practice were significantly associated with BI in both groups. Motivation to comply affected BI only in Japanese children, whereas affective attitude was associated with BI only in Korean children. In predicting sweetness preference, BI was associated only in Japanese children, whereas sweets consumption frequency had a significant effect in Korean children. Conclusion: The study shows similarities and differences in motivational factors, which could be considered when developing nutrition education programs in Korea and Japan. PBC and parenting practice were common factors in predicting BI. In predicting sweetness preference, BI had a significant effect on Japanese children, whereas sweets consumption frequency was the greatest contributor in Korean children.
