Generation of Cutting Path Data for Two Steps of the Cutting Process in Full- Automated VLM-ST (VLM-ST 공정의 완전 자동화를 위한 2단계 절단 경로 데이터 생성 방법에 관한 연구)

  • A novel rapid prototyping (RP) process, a full-automated transfer type variable lamination manufacturing process (Full-automated VLM-ST) has been developed. In the full-automated VLM-ST process, a vacuum chuck and a rectilinear motion system transfer the EPS foam material in the form of the plate with two pilot holes to the rotary supporting stage. The supplied material is then cut into an automated unit shape layer (AUSL) with a desired width, a desired length, a desired slope on the side surface, and a pair of reference shapes, which is called the guide shape (GS)’, including two pilot holes in accordance with CAD data through cutting in two steps using a four-axis synchronized hotwire cutter. Then, each AUSL is stacked by setting each AUSL with two pilot holes in the building plate with two pilot pins, and subsequently, adhesive is applied onto the top surface of the stacked AUSL by a bonding roller and pressure is simultaneously given to the bottom surface of the stacked AUSL. Finally, three-dimensional shapes are rapidly and automatically fabricated. This paper describes the method to generate guide shapes in AUSL data for the full-automated VLM-ST process. In order to examine the applicability of the method to generate guide shapes, three-dimensional shapes, such as a piston shape and a human head shape, are fabricated from the full-automated VLM-ST apparatus.

The Kinetic Analysis of the Lower Extremity Joints when Performing Uchi-mata by Uke's Posture in Judo (유도 허벅다리걸기 기술 발휘 시 받기 자세에 따른 하지관절의 kinetic 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the kinetical variables of the lower extremity joints when performing uchimata(inner thigh reaping throw) by uke(receiver)'s two posture(shizenhon tai), jigohon tai), by voluntary resistance level(VRL) in judo. The subjects, who were for 3 male Korean national representative judokas(elite group : EG) and 3 male representative judokas of Korean University(non-elite group: NEG), and were filmed 4 DV video cameras(60fields/sec.), that posture of uke were shizenhon-tai (straight natural posture), jigohon-tai(straight defensive posture), VRL of uke was 0%. The selected trials were subject to 3-dimensional film motion analysis and ground reaction force(MRF) analysis. The kinetical variable of this study were temporal, postures( ankle and knee angle of attacking leg), that were computed through video film analysis, MRF at events were obtained from the ground-reaction force analysis by AMTI force plate system. When performing uchi-mata according to each posture and by VRL, from the data analysis and discussion, the conclusions were as follows : 1) Temporal variables : total time-required(TR) when performing uchi-mata was shown EG 0.13sec the shorter than NEG(o.77sec.) in shizenhon-tai. and EG 0.17sec the shorter than NEG(o.76sec.) in jigonhon-tai. Also, all of two groups' jigohon-tai(0.68sec.) were faster than shizenhon-tai(0.71 sec.). 2) The posture variables : The angle of ankle in attacking when performing were plantar flexion in EG, and dorsi flexion in NEG by shizenhon-tai and jigohon-tai posture. The angle of knee in attacking when performing were extension in EG and NEG, but range of extension in EG were larger than in NEG. 3) MRF : Vertical MRF when performing uchi-mata was shown the strongest in the 2nd stage of kake phase(2.23BW) by EG in both posture, and it was same value by NEG(2.23BW), but shizenhon-tai (2.28BW), jigohon-tai(1.64BW), respectively.

[ $Kienb\"{o}ck's$ ] Disease Treated With Vascular Loop Graft (Vascular loop graft 술식을 이용한 $Kienb\"{o}ck$씨 질환의 치료)

  • Although the etiology of $Kienb\"{o}ck's$ disease is clearly related to avascular changes in the lunate, but the actual cause leading to this vascular impairment has remained elusive. Therefore, a great many different surgical procedures have been proposed for the correction of the multiple factors leading to lunate collapse or for the treatment of the lunatomalacia. The treatment modalities includes lunate excision, intercarpal arthrodesis, lunate implant resection arthroplasty, joint levelling operation(e.g ulnar lengthening & radial shortening), pronater quadratus pedicle graft and vascular loop graft. In the period from Jan. 1981 to Dec. 1992, we performed operative treatment in 19 cases of $Kienb\"{o}ck's$ disease. Among them, 6 cases were treated with vascular loop graft. We analysed all patients who were treated with vascular loop graft after followed up of 4 year 6 months, on an average(range from 1 year to 8 year 10 months). The results analysed are as follows, 1. All cases were stage III according to Lichtman's classification. 2. Ulnar variance was -1.5(range$-2{\sim}0$), on an average. 3. The average age of patients were 37.7years old(range 31-41). 4. Postoperatively, there were considerable restoration of range of motion and complete relief of pain in all cases, but continued decrease of grip power in one case. 5. Decreased sclerosis, loss of fragmentation and new bone formation were appeared in the last follow up film, in all cases. The vascular loop graft considered as a useful method for the treatment of the $Kienb\"{o}ck's$ disease.

A Study on the Efficient Improvement of the Animatics for Animation Production in Education (애니메이션 교육을 위한 애니메틱스 제작의 효율적 방안 연구)

  • Animation is breathing life into drawings through motion. Animation is formed by the afterimage phenomenon, that is, deviation of sequential pictures in every frame makes a person possibly perceive it as a live video. Consequently, animation is mostly produced using traditional frame-by-frame methods. The study of relations on timing has been a major concern of animation theory. Nevertheless, issues of timing on production outcomes and effectiveness are mostly ignored. Special focus, analysis and leadership studies on timing are addressed on animatics. Creating better timing through animatics, that is writing movies, directing, scheduling and amending storyboard in pre-production stage, eventually shorten time to animation production. This research is centered on animatics as a cutting edge educational courses. This course will introduce students to the animation production skill and instructors to in-depth teaching points. One of the concepts that we want to go for is keeping animatics apart from mere storyboard. In conjunction with the animation theory, this research conducted under the focus of production of animatics will lead to more efficient way of education on animatics.

Technologies to Realize High Stiffness Mechatronics Systems in Production Machines (기계장비의 메카트로닉스 고강성화 기술)

  • One of common challenges in designing modern production machines is realizing high speed motion without sacrificing accuracy. To address this challenge it is necessary to maximize the stiffness of the mechanical structure and the control system with consideration on the main disturbance input, cutting forces. This paper presents analysis technologies for realizing high stiffness in production machines. First, CAE analysis techniques to evaluate the dynamic stiffness of a machine structure and a new method to construct the physical machine model for servo controller simulations are demonstrated. Second, cutting forces generated in milling processes are analyzed to evaluate their effects on the mechatronics system. In the effort to investigate the interaction among the structure, controller, and process, a flexible multi-body dynamics simulation method is implemented on a magnetic bearing stage as an example. The presented technologies can provide better understandings on the mechatronics system and help realizing high stiffness production machines.

Finite Element Model Updating and System Identification of Reinforced Concrete Specimen (철근콘크리트 실험체의 시스템 식별과 유한요소모델수정)

  • This paper focused on the application of finite element model updating technique to evaluate the structural properties of the reinforced concrete specimen using the data collected from shaking table tests. The specimen was subjected to six El Centro(NS, 1942) ground motion histories with different Peak Ground Acceleration(PGA) ranging from 0.06g to 0.50g. For model updating, flexural stiffness values of structural members(walls and slabs) were chosen as the updating parameters so that the converged results have direct physical interpretations. Initial values for finite element model were determined from the member dimensions and material properties. Frequency response functions(i.e. transfer functions), natural frequencies and mode shapes were obtained using the acceleration measurement at each floor and given ground acceleration history. The weighting factors were used to account for the relative confidence in different types of inputs for updating(i.e. transfer function and natural frequencies). The constraints based on upper/lower bound of parameters and sensitivity-based constraints were implemented to the updating procedure in this study using standard bounded variable least-squares(BVLS) method. The veracity of the updated finite element model was investigated by comparing the predicted and measured responses. The results indicated that the updated model replicates the dynamic behavior of the specimens reasonably well. At each stage of shaking, severity of damage that results from cracking of the reinforced concrete member was quantified from the updated parameters(i.e. flexural stiffness values).

Air-gap effect on life boat arrangement for a semi-submersible FPU

  • In the offshore project such as semi-submersible FPU and FPSO, the free fall type life boat called TEMPSC (Totally Enclosed Motor Propelled Survival Craft) has been installed for the use of an emergency evacuation of POB (People on Board) from the topside platform. For the design of life boat arrangement for semi-submersible FPU in the initial design stage, the drop height and launch angle are required fulfill with the limitation of classification society rule and Company requirement, including type of approval as applicable when intact and damage condition of the platform. In this paper, we have been performed the numerical studies to find proper arrangement for the life boats consider drop height in various environmental conditions such as wave, wind and current. In the calculations, the contributions from static and low frequency (LF) motions are considered from the hydrodynamic and mooring analysis as well as damage angle from the intact and damage stability analysis. Also, Air-gap calculation at the life boat positions has been carried out to check the effect on the life boat arrangement. The air-gap assessment is based on the extreme air-gap method includes the effect of 1st order wave frequency (WF) motions, 2nd order low frequency roll/pitch motion, static trim/heel and set down.

Implementation of Physical Activity Energy Expenditure Prediction Algorithm using Accelerometer at Waist and Wrist (허리와 손목의 가속도 센서를 이용한 신체활동 에너지 소비량 예측 알고리즘 구현)

  • Estimating algorithm of physical activity energy expenditure was implemented by using a tri-axial accelerometer motion detector of the SVM(Signal Vector Magnitude) of 3-axis(x, y, z). A total of 33 participants(15 males and 18 females) that performed walking and running on treadmill at 2 ~ 11 km/h speeds(each stage increase 1km/h). Algorithm for energy expenditure of physical activities were implemented with $VO_2$ consumption and SVM correlation between the data. Algorithm consists of three kinds and hip, wrist, waist and hip can be used to apply.

A fast block-matching algorithm using the slice-competition method (슬라이스 경쟁 방식을 이용한 고속 블럭 정합 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, a new block-matching algorithm for standard video encoder is proposed. The algorithm finds a motion vector using the increasing SAD transition curve for each predefined candidates, not a coarse-to-fine approach as a conventional method. To remove low-probability candidates at the early stage of accumulation, a dispersed accumulation matrix is also proposed. This matrix guarantees high-linearity to the SAD transition curve. Therefore, base on this method, we present a new fast block-matching algorithm with the slice competition technique. The Candidate Selection Step and the Candidate Competition Step makes an out-performance model that considerably reduces computational power and not to be trapped into local minima. The computational power is reduced by 10%~70% than that of the conventional BMAs. Regarding computational time, an 18%~35% reduction was achieved by the proposed algorithm. Finally, the average MAD is always low in various bit-streams. The results were also very similar to the MAD of the full search block-matching algorithm.
