  • This thersis presents precise position control emthods of a 3-PRPS in-parallel manipulator for industrial applications such as assembly of highly integrated semiconductors and microsurgery. Since real-time ontrol is one of the most important issues required for industrial application, the experimental hardware is set up with a VME based DSP controller. In the 3-PRPS parallel mainpulator, structurally existing frictiion at three horizontal links considerably degrades the precise position control. In order to compensate the friction of the horizontal links in the joint space, a disturbance compensation usign disturbance and velocity observers has been proposed and investigated. We analyzed the decision method of eigenvalues of the disturbance observer and the effects of the control resulted form tehsystem model errors. Through a series of simulations and experiments, we see that the methods is capable of compensating variations of the robot parameters such as inertia and damping as well as the joint friction. Experiments show that the disturbance compensation method usign disturbance and velocity observer is very effective to compensate the friction. Compared with conventional PID position control, it decreased position errors ina circular motion by approximately 70%.

  • Overloaded Vehicles are one of biggest of hazard in durability decrease of roads and bridges. Thus, regulation was put in force about overloaded vehicles to reserve this problem. However, existing system had many problems. For these reasons, this paper presents solutions of U-intelligent overload vehicles regulation system based on manless and wireless for fixing of problems of existing system and construction of u-lTS. With this in mind, we studied about composition method of system, applications of USN, design of system controller, WCDMA/HSDPA and we verified performance of WIM Sensors in this paper.

  • Underwater glider with a single buoyancy engine could generally obtain propulsive forces by moving the center of buoyancy and gravity. Futhermore, The hull and internal structure of underwater glider are designed according to the purpose of long-time operation, high speed and a wide variety of payloads (sensors, communications and etc.). In this paper, Ray-type underwater glider featuring flatfish is considered in view of hydrodynamics. The hull design is especially performed by the analysis of fluid resistance and dynamic performance. The resistance performance is analyzed using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). In addition, a simulation program is implemented in order to verify the validity of dynamics modeling and dynamic performances.

  • The need for human body posture robots has led researchers to develop dexterous design of exoskeleton robots. Quantitative techniques to assess human motor function and generate commands for robots were required to be developed. In this paper, we present a passivity based adaptive control algorithm for upper limb assist exoskeleton. The proposed algorithm can adapt to different subject parameters and provide efficient response against the biomechanical variations caused by subject variations. Furthermore, we have employed the Particle Swarm Optimization technique to tune the controller gains. Efficacy of the proposed algorithm method is experimentally demonstrated using a seven degree of freedom upper limb assist exoskeleton robot. The proposed algorithm was found to estimate the desired motion and assist accordingly. This algorithm in conjunction with an upper limb assist exoskeleton robot may be very useful for elderly people to perform daily tasks.

  • If hydraulic pump controlled by mechanical type regulator has more than one control function, the construction of regulator will be very complicated and control performance falls drastically. It is difficult to have more than one control function for hydraulic pump controlled by electronic type hydraulic valve due to the inconsistency of controllers. This paper proposes a multi-function control technique which controls continuously flow, pressure and power by using EPPR(Electronic Proportional Pressure Reducing) valve in swash plate type axial piston pump. Nonlinear mathematical model is developed from the continuity equation for the pressurized control volume and the torque balance for the swash plate motion. To simplify the model we make the linear state equation by differentiating the nonlinear model. A reaction spring is installed in servo cylinder to secure the stability of the control system. We analyze the stability and disturbance by using the state variable model. Finally, we review the control performances of flow, pressure and power by tests using PID controller.

  • This paper presents control and response characteristics of a continuously variable ER(electrorheological) damper for small-sized vehicles. The ER damper is devised and its governing equation of motion is derived from the bond graph model. The field-dependent yield shear stresses are distilled from experimental investigation on the Bingham property of the ER fluid. The distilled data are incorporated into the governing system model and, on the basis of this model, an appropriate size of the ER damper is manufactured. After evaluating the field-dependent damping performance of the proposed ER damper, the skyhook control algorithm is formulated to achieve desired level of the damping force. The controller is then experimentally implemented and control characteristics of the ER damper are presented in order to demonstrate superior controllability of the damping force. In addition, response characteristics of the damping force with respect to the electric field with fast on-off frequency are provided to show the feasibility of practical application.

  • This paper proposes an optimum design method of structural and control systems, using a 2-D truss structure as an example. The structure is subjected to initial static loads and disturbances. For the structure, a FEM model is formed. Using modal transformation, the equation of motion is transformed into modal coordinates, in order to decrease D.O.F. of the FEM model. To suppress the effect of the disturbances, the structure is controlled by an output feedback $H_{\infty}$ controller. The design variables of the combined optimal design of the control-structure systems are the cross sectional areas of truss members. The structural objective function is the structural weight. The control objective function is the $H_{\infty}$ norm, the performance index of control. The second structural objective function is the energy of the response related to the initial state, which is derived from the time integration of the quadratic form of the state in the closed-loop system. In a numerical example, simulations have been perform. Through the consideration of structural weight and $H_{\infty}$ norm, an advantage of the combined optimum design of structural and control systems is shown. Moreover, since the performance index of control is almost nearly optimiz, we can acquire better design of structural strength.

  • This paper presents a implantable intrathecal drug infusion pump for pain control in cancer patients. This device consists of micropump module, drug reservoir module and control module. The micropump module using cam-follower mechanism composed of small-sized four cams and four followers. Each followers is driven by a cam and liquid is discharged by a sequential reciprocal motion of the followers. The advantage of this structure is that it allows the pump to be clean and valveless. The drug reservoir module composed of drug chamber, gas chamber and diaphragm. The control module composed of battery, wireless communication unit and controller. To design a small-sized, low power pump some analysis were performed to determine the design parameters. To verify the feasibility of the experiment, a prototype was manufactured and its operating characteristics were investigated. Experimental results were in accordance with the expected results obtained from analysis.

  • This paper presents modal analysis and mean conveying velocity (M.C.V.) control of bowl parts feeder activated by piezoactuators. Bowl parts feeders are being widely used in many industry fields for automatic assembly line. In general, the electromagnet has been and being used as exciting actuator of these vibratory bowl feeders. However, because of complexity of its mechanism and limited capability of the electromagnet actuator, there exist various impending problems such as severe noise, nonlinear motion of parts, passive characteristics and so forth. As one of solutions for these problems, piezoelectric actuators as new actuating technology have been proposed recently to excite the bowl parts feeder. In this paper, modal analysis of the proposed model has been performed to examine the modal characteristics of the model by using commercial FEM software and modeling with respects to MCV is constructed. Finally, MCV of the parts is to be controlled to track the desired one with PID controller.

  • A flexible one-link robotic manipulator is modelled as a rotating cantilever beam with a hub and tip mass. An active control law is developed with consideration of the distributed flexibility of the arm. Equation of motion is derived by Hamilton's principle and, for modal control, represented as state variable form using Galerkin's mode summation method. Feedback coefficients are chosen to minimize the linear quadratic performance index(PI). To reconstruct the complete state vector from the measurements, an observer is proposed. In order to suppress vibration of the manipulator arm to desirable extent and to obtain accuracy of the positioning, weighting factor of input in PI is adjusted. Spillover effect due to the controller which controls several important modes is examined. Experiment is also performed to validate the theoretical analysis.
