In the present study, the water desalination across the penta-graphene has been explored by using molecular dynamics simulation. The penta-graphene, a new carbon allotrope, introduced theoretically in 2015. It was shown that this carbon nanostructure is slightly stiffer against buckling in comparison with the graphene nanoribbons. The effect of radius of curvature (ROC) of the membrane, pore size, and applied pressure, on water flow rate, and salt rejection is investigated. It is shown that salt rejection, and the shape of the oxygen density distribution inside the pore can be influenced by the ROC of membrane. Finally, it is shown that the ROC, and pore size of 2D membranes, play an important role in the salt rejection.
The synthesis of a series of poly(POSS-NBE-b-MTD) copolymers was successfully accomplished, taking advantage of sequential, ring-opening, metathesis block copolymerization using $RuCl_2(=CHPh)(PCy_3)_2$ catalyst. By using cyclopentyl-POSS-norbornene (POSS-NBE) monomer as the first block in the block copolymer, living poly(POSS-NBE) with controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution was produced. Then, poly(POSS-NBE-b-MTD) copolymers were successfully prepared, in which sequential monomer addition of methyltetracyclododecene (MTD) to the living poly(POSS-NBE) chain ends was utilized to achieve quantitative crossover efficiency. Characterization by $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy and GPC confirmed the high definition and structural integrity of the poly(PO$S-NBE-b-MTD) copolymers. Thermal properties-and morphologies of the POSS-containing block copolymer nanocomposites were also investigated by using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS).
To hydrolyze insolule sericin the enzyme hydrolysis was used, and then obtained the results as given belows. When insoluble sericin was hydrolyzed by enzyme treatment, the solubility was best at pH 7, 60$\^{C}$ and was slightly increased both above 2 hours treatment and above 10% of enzyme concentration. As the results of electrophoresis, the distribution of molecular weight of sericin powder obtained by enzyme hydrolysis was very weak and showed in the wide range having no distinguishable band. Average degree of polymerzations (A.D.P.) of sericin hydrolyzed by enzyme were about 4.1∼6.3, average molecular weight were about 470∼730. The whiteness of the sericin powder obtained by enzyme hydrolysis was high and increased slightly with higher treatment concentration of enzyme. As the results of amino acid analysis, the amino acid analysis, the amino acid composition of the sericin powder from the enzyme treatment were similar to which located at near 230$\^{C}$ and 320$\^{C}$. The peak of near 230$\^{C}$ could not been found in the sericin powder obtained by enzyme hydrolysis.
A new gas-flow type reactor for plasma polymerization was developed to synthesize functional polymers, which enhances reaction of radicals activated in the discharge. Styrene was used for the plasma polymerization and molecular strucure and molecular weight distribution of the plasma -polymerized styrene were studies. The ploymer was evaluated to be an efficient electron beam resist. The sensitivity of the plasma-polymerized styrene film formed by this new reactor was better than that of the reported values of conventional polystyrene, Fine resist patterns could be successfully developed by a wet process.

Si oxidation is a key process in developing silicon devices, such as highly integrated metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) transistors and antireflection-coating (ARC) on solar cell substrate. Many experimental and theoritical studies have been carried out for elucidating oxidation processes and adsorption structure using ab initio total energy and electronic structure calcultaions. However, the initial oxidation processes at step edge on vicinal Si surface have not been studied using the ReaxFF reactive force field. In this work, strucutural change, charge distribution of oxidized Si throughout the depth from Si surface were observed during oxidation processes on vicinal Si(001) surface inclined by $10.5^{\circ}$ of miscut angle toward [100]. Adsorption energys of step edge and flat terrace were calculated to compare the oxidation reaction at step edge and flat terrace on Si surface.
Most living organisms synchronize their physiological and behavioral activities with the daily changes in the environment using intrinsic time-keeping systems called circadian clocks. In mammals, the key molecular features of the internal clock are transcription- and translational-based negative feedback loops, in which clock-specific transcription factors activate the periodic expression of their own repressors, thereby generating the circadian rhythms. CLOCK and BMAL1, the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH)/PAS transcription factors, constitute the positive limb of the molecular clock oscillator. Recent investigations have shown that various levels of posttranslational regulation work in concert with CLOCK/BMAL1 in mediating circadian and cellular stimuli to control and reset the circadian rhythmicity. Here we review how the CLOCK and BMAL1 activities are regulated by intracellular distribution, posttranslational modification, and the recruitment of various epigenetic regulators in response to circadian and cellular signaling pathways.
A thermoresponsive polymer, poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA), was successfully synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Different amounts of 1,3-propanesultone were used as quaternization agent to transit the PDMAEMA into partially modified poly(zwitterions), resulting in p[DMAEMA-co-3-dimethyl(methacryloyloxyethyl)ammonium propanesulfonate] (PDMAEMA-co-PDMAPS). Molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, and degree of quarternization were determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The transmission spectra of the 1.0 wt % aqueous solutions of the resulting polymers at 650 nm were measured as a function of temperature. Results showed that the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) and the upper critical solution temperature (UCST) could be easily controlled by the different composition of dimethylamino and zwitterion groups. The effect of partial quaternization on thermoresponsive properties was also studied by dynamic light scattering (DLS) with the same aqueous concentration (1.0 wt %) as employed for turbidimetry studies. The LCST and UCST values measured by DLS correlated well with those determined by turbidimetry.
The lipid composition of thylakoid membranes was compared between mesophyll and bundle sheath chloroplasts of maize. According to mild-denaturing gel electrophoresis, mesophyll thylakoids contained both PS I complex and PS II light-harvesting chlorophyll-protein complex(LHCP), while those of bundle sheath cells contained mainly PS I complex. The amount of lipids per mg chlorophyll was higher in bundle sheath thylakoids than in mesophyll. The major polar lipid classes were monogalactosyldiacylglycerol(MGDG), digalactosyldiacylglycreol, sulfolipid and phosphatidylglycerol (PG) in both tissues. Linolenic acid(18 : 3), linoleic acid(18 : 2) and palmitic acid(16 : 0) were the main fatty acyl components, with higher ratio of unsaturated to saturated fatty acids in bundle sheath thylakoids, suggesting these membranes are more fluid. The most striking difference in lipid composition between the two kinds of tissues was the practical absence of trans- 3-hexadecenoic acid(16 : 1t) in PG of bundle sheath thylakoids. This fatty acid is known to be involved in the association of LHCP as oligomeric form. More than 80% of MGDG molecular species was 18 : 3, 18 : 3, demonstrating that maize is a typical 18 : 3 plant. Therefore, the possibility of the functional relationships between the lamella structure, and thus the distribution of photosystems, and MGDG molecular species was excluded.
Apparent MWDs of DOM in natural waters and swine wastewaters were determined through membrane ultrafiltration. The nominal MWCOs of ultrafiltration membranes by the manufacturer were confirmed to be similar with those obtained from the ultrafiltration procedures employed in this study using six MW standard compounds. Natural waters showed a wide range of MWOs, but 62.4~87.5% were in the range of MW<10K. High MW fractions were preferentially removed through water treatment processes. Swine wastewater showed two major ranges of MWDs, 49.0% in <1K and 36% in >50k while anaerobically treated swine wastewaters showed 17.5~18.0% in <1K and 53.0~58.8% in <50K. The overall DOM was reduced during anaerobic treatment by 76.8~80.0% as COD; however. the percentage of low MW fractions decreased and that of the high MW fractions increased.
A taxonomic study for clarifying the decapod fauna of Gejedo Island, Korea was performed. Seventy nine species in 28 families were identified through the present investigation and of which 9 species of shrimps, 7 species of anomurans, and 39 species of crabs are newly added to the decapod fauna of this area. With the previously known 40 species, a total of 93 decapod species from this island and its adjacent islets are listed, and Pugettia quadridens intermedia Sakai, 1939 is redescribed with illustrations. The zoogeographical aspects of Geojedo Island are also discussed based on the composition of geographical forms of brachyuran decapods.
