A tyrosinase-immobilized biosensor was developed based on various amine-modified multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) supports for the detection of phenolic compounds. MWNTs with various amine groups were prepared by radiation-induced graft polymerization of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) onto MWNT supports and the subsequent amination of poly(GMA) graft chains. The physical and chemical properties of the poly(GMA)-grafted MWNT supports and the aminated MWNT supports were investigated by SEM, XPS, and TGA. Furthermore, the electrochemical properties of the prepared tyrosinase-modified biosensor based on MWNT supports with amine groups were also investigated. The response of the enzymatic biosensor was in the range of 0.1-0.9 mM for the concentration of phenol in a phosphate buffer solution. Various parameters influencing biosensor performance have been optimized: binder effects, pH, temperature, and the response to various phenolic compounds. The biosensor was tested on phenolic compounds contained in two different commercial red wines.
To clarify the formation of secondary amines in Korean native soysauce, periodical changes during 90 days aging were investigated. The results were as follows; 1. The average content of secondary amines in Korean native meju was 20.86 ppm $(7.25{\sim}50.76{\;}ppm)$ as dimethylamine(DMA), higher than modified meju(artifcial lyinoculated Aspergillus oryzae). Especially, the high amount was detected in severely deteriorated meju. 2. Cooked soybean, wheat, barley and rice contained 1.28, 0.57, 0.34 and 0.35 ppm of secondary amines, respectively. The more amounts were detected in koji, the respective contents in soybean, wheat, barley and rice koji were 2.63, 1.09, 0.64 and 0.54 ppm. 3. The new formation of secondary amines was not recognized in normally fermented Korean native soysauce during 90 days aging. 4. Secondary amines were formed below 18% sodium chloride under dark condition during soysauce aging, but not formed at 14% under sun-light condition. 5. The modified soysauce, prepared with modified meju, did not contain the newly synthesized secondary amines at 14% sodium chloride under sun-light condition during 30 days aging. 6, Drying of meju and boiling of soysauce did not affect the evaporation of secondary amines.
Mesoporous SBA-15 was synthesized using tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) as the silica source and Pluronic (P123) as the structure-directing agent. The defective Si-OH groups present in SBA-15 were successively grafted with 3-chloropropyltrimethoxysilane (CPTMS) followed by tris-(2-aminoethyl) amine (TAEA) and/or tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA) for effective immobilization of silver nanoparticles. Grafting of TAEA and/or TEPA amine and immobilization of silver nanoparticles inside the channels of SBA-15 was verified by XRD, TEM, IR and BET techniques. The silver nanoparticles immobilized on TAEA and /or TEPA grafted SBA-15 was subjected for electrocatalytic reduction of hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$). The TEPA stabilized silver nanoparticles show higher efficiency for reduction of $H_2O_2$ than that of TAEA, due to higher number of secondary amine groups present in TEPA. The amperometric analysis indicated that both the Ag/SBA-15/TAEA and Ag/SBA-15/TEPA modified electrodes required lower over-potential and hence possess high sensitivity towards the detection of $H_2O_2$. The reduction peak currents were linearly related to hydrogen peroxide concentration in the range between $3{\times}10^{-4}\;M$ and $2.5{\times}10^{-3}\;M$ with correlation coefficient of 0.997 and detection limit was $3{\times}10^{-4}\;M$.
In this study, we treated silica nanoparticles with bis[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]amine (BTMA) silane coupling agent to modify their surfaces. We investigated the effects of BTMA hydrolysis time, BTMA concentration and BTMA treatment time on the degree of silanization reaction of silica nanoparticles. We used Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), elemental analysis (EA) and solid state cross-polarization magic angle spinning (CP/MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) to obtain quantitative data. We found the decrease of isolated Si-OH peak intensity at 3747 $cm^{-1}$ and the increase of $-CH_2 $stretching and bending peaks with increasing hydrolysis time, concentration and treatment time of BTMA. EA analysis results also supported this trend. We found a strong effect of BTMA concentration on the degree of silanization of the silica particles, but weak effects of the hydrolysis time and the treatment time.
The electrochemical reduction of (2,4-difluoro-phenyl)-(2-phenyl-1H-quinolin-4-ylidene)-amine was investigated in 0.1 M tetrabutylammoniumbromide in N,N-dimethylformamide at glassy carbon electrode (GCE) using the technique of cyclic voltammetry at the room temperature (290 K). The reduction of imines occurs in two successive steps, involving one electron in each. In this medium the first peak was observed at about -0.793 V (vs Ag/$Ag^+$) at the glassy carbon electrode surface, which is more stable and well defined as compared to the second peak. The diffusion coefficient ($D_0$) of imine in the investigated solvent media has been calculated using the modified Randles-Sevcik equation. The electron transfer coefficient ($\alpha$) of the reactant species has also been calculated.
Carbon fibers were coated with carboxy modified poly(hydroxy ether)(C-PHE, water dispersed), water soluble polymers poly(hydroxy ether ethanol amine)(PHEA) or water insoluble poly(hydroxy ether)(PHE). Interfacial shear strength of polymer coated carbon fibers was measured by micro-droplet tests with vinyl ester resin, and approximately 30 samples were tested. The interfacial adhesion of poly-mers to carbon fibers was also evaluated, and diffusion behavior of polymer films in vinyl ester resin was investigated. The carbon fibers after testing and diffusion samples were analysed by SEM in order to understand adhesion mechanism. Interfacial shear strength of carbon fibers was enhanced by the coating of PHE and C-PHE which have good or marginal solubility in vinyl ester resin, respectively, but not by the coating of PHEA possibly due to the poor solubility in vinyl ester resin.

We prepared the amine epoxy adducts (AEA)/thin multiwalled carbon nanotubes (TWCNTs) composite particles using nonsolvent based methods including dry mechano-chemical bonding(MCB) process and supercritical fluid (SCF) process. The resulting TWCNTs/AEA composite particles have been used as curing agents for urethane modified bispheol A type epoxy resin. The thermal, thermomechanical properties of the epoxy resins cured with TWCNTs/AEA composite particles were measured by DMA and the dispersion of CNT was characterized by SEM. Because of high degree of CNT dispersion, thermal and mechanical properties of the epoxy resin cured with TWCNTs/AEA composite particles prepared by SCF process are better than those cured with mechano-chemically prepared TWCNTs/AEA composite particles.

Amino terminated polyetherimide(ATPEI) has been synthesized by bisphthalic anhydride arid m-phenylenediamine, after that characterized by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), thermogravimetric analyzer(TGA). Fourier transform (FT-IR) spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography(GPC). ATPEI was blend to improve the toughness of bisphenol-A type epoxy resin which was cured by nadic methyl anhydride(NMA). The fracture toughness and the molphology of the toughened epoxy resin was evaluated. The toughness of ATPEI modified epoxy resin was higher than that of the PEI modified epoxy resin. In addtion, carbon fiber/ATPEI modified epoxy resin composites were fabricated and the mechanical properties of the resulted composites were investigated.

Styrene-butadiene-styrene copolymer(SBS)/Clay nanocomposites were prepared by melt mixing method with organic clay modified with dimethyl dihydrogenated-tallow amine(Cloisite 15A) and methyl tallow bis (2-hydroxy-ethyl) amine(Cloisite 30A), respectively. From the results of XRD, we found that mono layered silicates were dispersed in SBS matrix and they were exfoliated nanocomposites. Mechanical properties of exfoliated SBS nanocomposites were more improvedl than those of SBS. Especially, it was found that the addition of small amount of organoclay was enough to improve mechanical properties without increasing hardness.
