This paper presents a system-of-systems (SoS) approach to the formal modeling of a cyber-physical system (CPS) for simulation-based analysis. The approach is based on a convergence technology for modeling and simulation of a highly complex system in which SoS modeling methodology, hybrid systems modeling theory, and simulation interoperation technology are merged. The methodology maps each constituent system of a CPS to a disparate model of either continuous or discrete types. The theory employs two formalisms for modeling of the two model types with formal specification of interfaces between them. Finally, the technology adapts a simulation bus called DEVS BUS whose protocol synchronizes time and exchange messages between subsystems simulation. Benefits of the approach include reusability of simulation models and environments, and simulation-based analysis of subsystems of a CPS in an inter-relational manner.

A nonlinear dynamic modeling method for simply supported structures undergoing large overall motion is suggested. The modeling method employs Rayleigh-Ritz mode technique and Von Karman nonlinear strain measures. Numerical study shows that the suggested modeling method provides qualitatively different results from those of the Classical Linear Cartesian modeling method. Especially, natural frequency variations and residual deformation due to membrane strain effects are observed in the numerical results obtained by the suggested modeling method.
Recently, the evolutionary study of human psychology and behavior has undergone rapid growth, diversifying into a few distinct sub-disciplines. One fundamental issue over which researchers in Human Behavioral Ecology and Evolutionary Psychology (EP) have different views is the role of formal optimality modeling for making hypotheses and deriving predictions about human adaptations. The study of EP typically rests on informal inferences and rarely uses optimality modeling, a strategy which human behavioral ecologists have severely criticized. Here I argue that EP researchers have every reason to make extensive use of optimality modeling as its research method. I show that optimality modeling can play an integral role in identifying the functional organization of human psychological adaptations.

In this paper, we developed an automated program for the modeling and simulation of three-dimensional roller gear cam mechanisms. The three-dimensional modeling for a roller-gear cam employs coordinate transformations based on the con-tact condition. the wire frame modeling followed by the shading technique using triangular meshing elements incorporat-ed the to reduce the number of data and computational load. Computer simulations for two kinds of products for rollger-gear cam mechansim illustrate the relative motion between the modeled roller-gear cam and a turret and thus show the effectiveness of the proposed modeling.
This study traces the origin, evolution, and current state-of-the-art of engineering-oriented water-quality management and modeling. Three attributes of polluted water underlie human concerns for water quality: rubbish (aesthetic impairment), stink (ecosystem impairment), and death (public health impairment). The historical roots of both modern environmental engineering and water-quality modeling are traced to the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries when European and American engineers worked to control and manage urban wastewater. The subsequent evolution of water-quality modeling can be divided into four stages related to dissolved oxygen (1925-1960), computerization (1960-1970), eutrophication (1970-1977) and toxic substances (1977-1990). Current efforts to integrate these stages into unified holistic frameworks are described. The role of water-quality management and modeling for developing economies is outlined.
This paper utilizes the FIDO methodology (Function, Information, Dynamic, Organization modeling) which is an enterprise modeling tool that can describe inter-organizational interaction (specifically between prime and sub contractors in this experiment). FIDO follows the standard IDEFO rules in order to demonstrate how a cascading information flow can evolve from a customer to a prime to a subcontractor in a concurrent manner, in a supply chain environment. Background on these processes is presented, followed with the newly derived process and methodology. This is presented in a supply chain management context, and results from an actual experiment at Motorola utilizing subcontractors that supply custom machine parts is presented and reviewed.

Large generator of power plant is very important. In order to protect large generator from faults, digital protective relay or IED is required. However, all protective relays for generators of the domestic power plant are operated by foreign products. And now, for technological independence from foreign and improvement of import substitution effect, IEDs using domestic technology are being developed. To evaluate performance of developing next-generation power devices, the study of the dynamic characteristics of the power plant, generator system modeling, fault simulation and analysis, should be considered. Specially, To obtain IEEE Standards COMTRADE format for relay operation test, generator system modeling and fault simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC tools must be preceded. Until now, a complete modeling of generator internal windings and fault simulation techniques dose not exist. In this paper, for evaluation performance of relay elements of developing IED, the generator system modeling and various faults simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC tools were performed. And then, the various transient phenomena through obtained relaying signal of developed modeling were analyzed.

To be integrated into the IEC 61970-based K-Grid, application of open communication protocol and sub-system modeling to major nodes is needed. In this paper, a module which links load nodes in customers to CIM based on psXML/oBIX, one of open protocols, was developed and data modeling and communication protocols of IEC 61850-7-42 based DER and ESS which apply the module to the customers who have DER and ESS were designed. Also the XML-based distributed database middleware was designed. The proposed modeling and protocols were applied to the building in which commercial DER products and the effectiveness of the proposed data modeling and the communication protocol were evaluated.
Wastewater process models are the essential tools for understanding relevant aspects of wastewater treatment system. Wastewater process modeling provides more options for upgrades and better understanding of new plant design, as well as improvements of operational controls. The software packages (BioWin, GPS-X, Aqua designer, etc) solve a series of simulated equations simultaneously in order to propose several solutions for a specific facility. Research and implementation of wastewater process modeling in combination with computational fluid dynamics enable testing for improvements of flow characteristics for WWTP and at the same time exam biological, physical, and chemical characteristics of the flow. Application of WWTP models requires broad knowledge of the process and expertise in modeling. Therefore, an efficient and good modeling practice requires both experience and set of proper guidelines as a background.
Teleoperation is the extension of a person's sensing and manipulation capability to a remote location. Teleoperators generally can be modeled as linear transfer function indecently including modeling uncertainty. Modeling uncertainties can make the system unstable and its performance poor. Thus I'm studying about a design framework for a bilateral controller of teleoperator systems with modeling uncertainties. In this paper, a method based on the H$_{\infty}$-optimal control and .mu.-synthesis frameworks are introduced to design a controller for the teleoperator that achieves stability and performance in the presence of the modeling uncertainties..ties.inties.
