  • The Primary type of swinging motion in human movement is that which is characteristic of a pendulum. The two types of pendulums are identified as simple and compound. A simple pendulum consist of a small body suspended by a relatively long cord. Its total mass is contained within the bob. The cord is not considered to have mass. A compound pendulum, on the other hand, is any pendulum such as the human body swinging by hands from a horizontal bar. Therefore a compound pendulum depicts important motions that are harmonic, periodic, and oscillatory. In this paper one discusses and compares two algorithms of Newton's method(F = m a) and Euler's method (M = $I{\times}{\alpha}$) in compound pendulum. Through exercise model such as human body with weight(m = 50 kg), body length(L = 1.5m), and center of gravity ($L_c$ = 0.4119L) from proximal end swinging by hands from a horizontal bar, one finds kinematic variables(angle displacement / velocity / acceleration), and simulates kinematic variables by changing body lengths and body mass. BSP by Clauser et al.(1969) & Chandler et al.(1975) is used to find moment of inertia of the compound pendulum. The radius of gyration about center of gravity (CoG) is $k_c\;=\;K_c{\times}L$ (단, k= radius of gyration, K= radius of gyration /segment length), and then moment of inertia about center of gravity(CoG) becomes $I_c\;=\;m\;k_c^2$. Finally, moment of inertia about Z-axis by parallel theorem becomes $I_o\;=\;I_c\;+\;m\;k^2$. The two-order ordinary differential equations of models are solved by ND function of numeric analysis method in Mathematica5.1. The results are as follows; First, The complexity of Newton's method is much more complex than that of Euler's method Second, one could be find kinematic variables according to changing body lengths(L = 1.3 / 1.7 m) and periods are increased by body length increment(L = 1.3 / 1.5 / 1.7 m). Third, one could be find that periods are not changing by means of changing mass(m = 50 / 55 / 60 kg). Conclusively, one is intended to meditate the possibility of applying a compound pendulum to sports(balling, golf, gymnastics and so on) necessary swinging motions. Further improvements to the study could be to apply Euler's method to real motions and one would be able to develop the simulator.

  • In this paper, we proposed a register allocation algorithm and resource allocation algorithm in the high level synthesis process for the SoC design synthesis system of high performance vehicles We have analyzed to the operator characteristics and structure of datapath in the most important high-level synthesis. We also introduced the concept of virtual operator for the scheduling of multi-cycle operations. Thus, we demonstrated the complexity to implement a multi-cycle operation of the operator, regardless of the type of operation that can be applied for commonly use in the resources allocation algorithm. The algorithm assigns the functional operators so that the number of connecting signal lines which are repeatedly used between the operators would be minimum. This algorithm provides regional graphs with priority depending on connected structure when the registers are allocated. The registers with connecting structure are allocated to the maximum cluster which is generated by the minimum cluster partition algorithm. Also, it minimize the connecting structure by removing the duplicate inputs for the multiplexor in connecting structure and arranging the inputs for the multiplexor which is connected to the operators. In order to evaluate the scheduling performance of the described algorithm, we demonstrate the utility of the proposed algorithm by executing scheduling on the fifth digital wave filter, a standard bench mark model.

  • New generation of tall and complex buildings systems are now introduced that are reflective of the latest development in materials, design, sustainability, construction, and IT technologies. While the complexity in design is being overcome by the availability and advances in structural analysis tools and readily advanced software, the design of these buildings are still reliant on minimum code requirements that yet to be validated in full scale. The involvement of the author in the design and construction planning of Burj Khalifa since its inception until its completion prompted the author to conceptually develop an extensive survey and real-time structural health monitoring program to validate all the fundamental assumptions mad for the design and construction planning of the tower. The Burj Khalifa Project is the tallest structure ever built by man; the tower is 828 meters tall and comprises of 162 floors above grade and 3 basement levels. Early integration of aerodynamic shaping and wind engineering played a major role in the architectural massing and design of this multi-use tower, where mitigating and taming the dynamic wind effects was one of the most important design criteria established at the onset of the project design. Understanding the structural and foundation system behaviors of the tower are the key fundamental drivers for the development and execution of a state-of-the-art survey and structural health monitoring (SHM) programs. Therefore, the focus of this paper is to discuss the execution of the survey and real-time structural health monitoring programs to confirm the structural behavioral response of the tower during construction stage and during its service life; the monitoring programs included 1) monitoring the tower's foundation system, 2) monitoring the foundation settlement, 3) measuring the strains of the tower vertical elements, 4) measuring the wall and column vertical shortening due to elastic, shrinkage and creep effects, 5) measuring the lateral displacement of the tower under its own gravity loads (including asymmetrical effects) resulting from immediate elastic and long term creep effects, 6) measuring the building lateral movements and dynamic characteristic in real time during construction, 7) measuring the building displacements, accelerations, dynamic characteristics, and structural behavior in real time under building permanent conditions, 8) and monitoring the Pinnacle dynamic behavior and fatigue characteristics. This extensive SHM program has resulted in extensive insight into the structural response of the tower, allowed control the construction process, allowed for the evaluation of the structural response in effective and immediate manner and it allowed for immediate correlation between the measured and the predicted behavior. The survey and SHM programs developed for Burj Khalifa will with no doubt pioneer the use of new survey techniques and the execution of new SHM program concepts as part of the fundamental design of building structures. Moreover, this survey and SHM programs will be benchmarked as a model for the development of future generation of SHM programs for all critical and essential facilities, however, but with much improved devices and technologies, which are now being considered by the author for another tall and complex building development, that is presently under construction.

  • In this study, the selection criteria for the occurrence of sea breezes in the Boseong area during the spring season (March-May) of 2016-2017 were prepared for the analysis of vertical weather characteristics. For this purpose, wind speed values were determined using the measured precipitation, cloud volume, wind direction, the difference between the ground and sea temperature, a wind Profiler at an altitude of 1 km, and numerical model data. The dates of the sea breezes in Boseong were classified according to the selection criteria, and the spatial and temporal characteristics of the sea breezes were identified by analyzing the time and altitude of the sea breeze and the size of the wind speed. Sea breezes occurred 23 out of 183 days (12%), and in Boseong, at least 1.2 out of 10 spring days exhibited sea breezes. Sea winds ranged from 1200 to 1800 LST, mainly from ground to 700 m altitude during the day. In addition, the maximum wind speed averaged 4.9 m s-1, at an altitude of 40 m at 1600 LST, showing relatively lower values than those in a preceding study. This seems to be owing to the reduction in wind speed due to the complexity of the coastal terrain.

  • The open inquiry is one of the representative learning approaches for gifted students. However, a gifted student should develop various complicated competencies to succeed in the open inquiry because of its complexity. This study develops a question list in accordance with each stage of inquiry so that the list could provide scaffolding in the process of open inquiry and students develop near-professional competencies and produce distinguished outcomes. For the purpose, we have reviewed various literatures related to research methodologies, academic writings, and learning of inquiry. Based on the review, we identified the open inquiry as cognitive, metacognitive, and sociocultural processes and set up the direction of the development of the question list. We also have elaborated the goals of the open inquiry, provided a model of the stage of inquiry, and developed the guiding question list belonging to each stage. As a discussion, we provided several noteworthy issues in the situation of when the list is used in the teaching of the open inquiry for the gifted.

  • In this paper, we propose the realization of on-line handwritten Chinese character recognition for mobile personal digital assistants (PDA). We focus on the development of an algorithm having a high recognition performance under the restriction that PDA requires small memory storage and less computational complexity in comparison with PC. Therefore, we use index matching method having computational advantage for fast recognition and we suggest a unit reconstruction method to minimize the memory size to store the character models and to accomodate the various changes in stroke order and stroke number of each person in handwriting Chinese characters. We set up standard model consisting of 1800 characters using a set of pre-defined units. Input data are measured by similarity among candidate characters selected on the basis of stroke numbers and region features after preprocessing and feature extracting. We consider 1800 Chinese characters adopted in the middle and high school in Korea. We take character sets of five person, written in printed style, irrespective of stroke ordering and stroke numbers. As experimental results, we obtained an average recognition time of 0.16 second per character and the successful recognition rate of 94.3% with MIPS R4000 CPU in PDA.

  • With business environments around the world facing uncertainty and complexity, companies have focused on supply chain management as one of the essential elements in securing a competitive advantage. Successful supply chain management requires internal efforts to strengthen the core competencies of the company and the integration of individual functions in the supply chain. This study aims to investigate the effect of information sharing between companies on supply chain integration and corporate performance. The research hypothesis established in previous studies was analyzed using structural equation modeling. A total of 723 questionnaire responses were used to test the hypotheses of this study. We found that the integration and sharing of information between companies have a great influence on supply chain integration, which has positive effects on corporate performance at the operational and strategic levels, including finance, market share, and customer satisfaction. The integration of supply chains via information integration and sharing between companies can promote the flow of information, services, goods, and money. Therefore, if information is disconnected between actors in the supply chain, it will lead to negative effects on the management of the entire supply chain. On the other hand, if supply chain actors can share information efficiently in real time on one platform, they can expect to optimize the entire supply chain. Information sharing and integration at the strategic and operational levels play a vital role in supply chain integration, which contributes to achieving a company's performance targets and enhancing its competitiveness.

  • This article reviews the development of three-dimensional (3-D) magnetotelluric (MT) modeling. The 3-D modeling of electromagnetic fields is essential in understanding the physics of MT soundings, and in implementing an inversion method to reconstruct a 3-D resistivity image. Although various numerical schemes have been developed over the last two decades, practical methods have been quite limited. However, the recent rapid improvement in computer speed and memory, as well as the advance in iterative solution algorithms for a large system of equations, makes it possible to model the MT responses of complex 3-D structures, which have been very difficult to simulate before. The use of staggered grids in finite difference method has become popular, conserving a magnetic flux and an electric current and allowing for realistic discontinuous fields. The convergence of numerical solutions has been greatly accelerated by adopting Krylov subspace methods, proper preconditioning techniques, and static divergence corrections. The vector finite-element method using edge elements is also free from the discontinuity problem, and seems a natural choice for modeling complex structures including irregular topography because its flexibility allows one to capture full geometric complexity.
